Chrisbr replied to Compound2632's topic in GWR Rolling Stock: model and prototype
Definitely Lot 410, built March 1903 with sheet supports from new and DC1 brakes. -
Sounds an excellent idea to me

Yay, sadly having escaped into town this afternoon to get a copy, the local WHS still had the previous edition on the shelves! -
You ony need to ask Mike......

Very nice indeed, finishes the wagon off really well. Can't wait to see it in the flesh in a couple of weeks time at Basingstoke show.

Tony, According to GWR Goods Wagons it is to diagram DD3 - Cylindrical Tank Wagon for Oil, Creosote etc 3108 gall - Lot 335 There are pictures of 43931 and 43939 with plates in the book. From the Wagon register it was built in Aug 1901 and there is no definitive scrap date. It has Exeter Depot Jun 1959 and Croes Newydd Jan 1960 annotated on the line. regards, Chris

Dave, The different door bangers are testament to your fidelity to the prototype as I'm sure you meant to say....

Graham. We know 2 wagons of this lot had plates - 10793, recorded as New lever and photgraphed as DC1 and 10995 recorded as Right Hand New Lever and photographed as DC1X. Given they were built within 3 weeks of each other, it doesn't seem unreasonable that the other 85 wagons built under this lot in the same timeframe also carried plates..... Chris

Are you able to provide the source for photgraphic evidence of 73189 carrying plates please? So far although I have come across 7 plated 4 plank wagons that was not one of them. 73189 was built in Dec 1899 and is at the early end of the build timeline of known 4 planks carrying plates that I have along with 632 and 1309 also bult in 1899.

Having done some research on 4 plank opens in the GWR wagon registers at York, from a sample of just over 500 built around the turn of the last century, just less than 10% never had sheet rails, a third had them fitted by the end of 1910 and nearly all the remainder were fitted by end of 1920. So yes, a common modification it would appear

Starting to look very much like a certain photo I studied a few weeks ago

@Compound2632, Why so many ED ballast plates - Designer error - I got carried away laying out the etch... there are two versions however deliberately for Mike to choose between, one taken from the info provided by Mike, but the second one as a result of a photo I found online which suggested the numerals were larger than the letters on the bottom line, I have no idea if both are correct and one is early and one later, so provided both for Mike to choose. Regards, Chris

I just love the fact that when Simon takes a photo from one end, you can no longer see the other end!! This is just amazing and I can't wait to see it in real life. Keep up the excellent work Simon.

Which aspect of the Up passenger working perplexes?

Whilst not claiming to be an expert, surely the headshunt past 7 points provides protection for the passenger line?
