  1. Can you not just snip off the outer ring of the figure of eight shaped end,in other words, the bit marked in red on the Hornby diagram below? Should fit ok then
  2. Maybe so,but looking at the allocations for 1921 and 1934, in each case ,two thirds of the class were in South Wales. The point I'm making is,when Hornby first released the model 40+ years ago, even fewer people modelled the South Wales railway scene than they do now,and it was an odd choice when there were other classes which were more widespread and more suitable for the classic GWR BLT,which was a commonplace theme back then
  3. The 2721 is in many ways a red herring. If another manufacturer did announce a new pannier,I think it's likely they'd choose a prototype with a larger geographical spread, the 2721 class were in fact quite niche locos, largely confined to South Wales, but Hornby modelling them 40 years ago has given the impression of being a far more prominent class. So I think as 'Hornby property',they stand little chance of being directly challenged. A 2021,850 or Buffalo class were all wider allocated and would have been seen on those all important GWR branch lines pulling passengers and freight
  4. It always used to be 9/64" ,rather randomly!
  5. In an ideal world,I'd like an old fashioned pannier or two, such as a 2021,Buffalo or 850 class Realistically, they'll probably cost in excess of £150 if they did appear and I just can't afford to spend that sort of money,so I'll stick with my old Bachmann and Mainline panniers, which may not be perfect but they're good enough for my purposes, especially with a Comet or High Level chassis underneath them
  6. Lidl currently have big boxes of assorted steel washers for £2.49.Good source of wagon weights I'd say
  7. Look forward to seeing the finished article in due time then
  8. They were introduced in 1921 and lost the Westinghouse gear soon after grouping Do you have any pics of the prototype,if not PM me
  9. Dr Frankenstein had a few too many beers! It should be one type or the other for the safety valves,I imagine the original builder misread the instructions. Are you going to strip the paint and respray it,as the paint job looks very thickly applied?
  10. At a guess I'd say it was the old Cotswold kit for a Rhymney AR class. They came with a solid milled brass chassis Also it looks like an attempt at a Westinghouse pump on the smokebox,a feature the Rhymney used
  11. The LMS Fowler and Stanier 262t's already mentioned are one of the biggest open goals left in the RTR field.Similarly a J69 for the LNER is to my mind a no-brainer. For Scottish modellers, how about a D40? 'Gordon Highlander' is preserved,GNSR/LNER/BR livery options, plus the massive bonus of the SECR having five and it's already been shown how popular that livery is. Finally, they missed a great opportunity of updating their GWR pannier offering this year by doing a 2021 class, but it would still be a seller with open and closed cab options, saddle and pannier tanks, survived into the 1950s,some were autofitted too,as well as some very strange rebuild oddities (coach style cladding anyone?) Please not a C2X though as mine is almost finished
  12. I seem to recall that the one you mention was a 'good match' and one of the others was 'fairly close' but I can't recall where the article was from! Found it on the Rowfant Grange website . Cat no.711 the 7 compartment 1st is apparently similar to a coach diagram which was mainly found in block trains.Obviously requires further investigation
  13. Some of the Ratio MR suburban coaches are virtually identical to some LBSC stock.I can't find the exact details right now but have a search on here for starters
  14. I'd love to see the prototype restored to that livery and running on the Bluebell
  15. My Finecast E1 is Calvados so I hope the RTR green one has a different name!
  16. I use old copper coins,1p and 2p pieces.Much cheaper than lead weights!
  17. A deep glossy black,so tar should be close enough!
  18. I assume this qualifies me for a free sample then?
  19. Marsh umber was only generally applied after the great war, most likely to use up existing paint stocks .Some C2X and C3 goods engines also received it,amongst other classes, but after the livery changes of 1905,the general goods livery was lined glossy black
  20. Yes,pretty much all of them I'd imagine after 1905
  21. No livery option for LBSCR black?
  22. Looking at it again,it could be a hybrid of two Sharp Stewart 0-6-0 Cambrian locos. No. 898 had a similar cab but retained its round top firebox and lasted until 1947.Its sister enginrt,No.908 received a belpaire firebox in the 1930s and worked from Didcot until about 1945 I believe. However it had a replacement cab which made it look more like Jones Goods Maybe the builder was trying out his own version of truth by combining the two?
  23. It's nothing Cambrian, the Volunteer class was very different ,for a start it didn't have a belpaire firebox The cab has a slight Midland or LNWR look to it,but I'd say it's a freelance fancy
