  1. yes I agree being from the next mainline stop down the line , ive seen pictures of locos with the yellow stripe on going through .....
  2. so over the past week ive made some basic progress on the quay , its had a first layer of pva to seal the base , so i can work on the water last without fear of it leaching etc , track is down now and i shall add some pictures later once ive got it all wired etc . hopefully its starting to look like something .
  3. here lies the tale of the fishing town on the east coast of England in a 20ish year time span 1923-1947. Saxthorpe quay is part of the small dockside branch that leads from the terminus at Saxthorpe and winds its way along the sea wall , for about a mile before it reaches the buffer stops . its main traffic flows are fish, fruit and timber . from time too time larger locomotives can be seen using the water crane , waiting for the express freights to be built up and head for the large cities . so enough waffle , saxthorpe quay is a small 5,6" simple shunting layout designed to give a variety of stock a run , now my tastes are a bit strange and varied but one thats always around is Lner/lms now ive messed with these since i was small and rebelling against that colossus bore that's the LMr transition era, (sorry dad). so its Lner from around 1923-1947 with an emphasis on the last 10 years or so . please dont worry 4472 will not be appearing in this film for my 4472 has recently had a change of heart .... please ignore the backscene its destined to change . so i am sorry for the messy images but atm it give a quick idea as to the layout and some of the stock including some of my wagon projects . some Lms may appear too although this one has found its self along way from Stafford ! i hope these give a rough idea , id like to document it from the very start , so planning then baseboard rework and then onto track etc .
  4. well to save the thread here is some recent images
  5. Huddswell number 4 waits for the signal to drop on the pontypandy light railway .
  6. so over the weekend i may have taken a few steps , the track is down and the ballast thrown on to the wet neat pva , will vacuum it all off tonight to see what has stuck and the ballast properly .
  7. welcome all to the beginning of the Shire light railway . Set in the troubled times of 1938, just as the world was about to walk into a war. But that's all very far away from the railway that serves the salt works and canal wharf . inspired by various conl stephens lines and a few others i plan to make my 7mm test bed layout set around that theme . Its only a test bed for my first venture into 7mm having lost most of the sight in my left eye , which has meant ive been unable to do what i enjoy in 4mm so ive sold some surplus stock off and have arrived at this point . east coast mainline it is not , more oh mr porter meets titfield . after all its only 197cm long by 61cm wide for the track bed , plus a 15cm canal wharf to go on the side where the timber is exposed . The mug represents the peco yard crane ,motive power will be my sentinel and possibly a minerva pecket or a ixion fowler , or Dapol terrier , although i do plan on making the layout multi era so i can purchase a Dapol j94 when they arrive . so thanks for reading and any feedback is most welcome
  8. Ah so it wasn’t just me then , I found them on tower models site
  9. well no parcel today , seems to have been lost between hattons and dpd
  10. Hi Guys yes i checked the scale on the side with a two foot rule and they were correct and the rail gap was 32mm so all printed ok , its just a shock when youve used peco small radius wyes and electrofrogs before to suddenly be amazed at the size . ive built layouts only a little longer than the standard points before . ive got a wye and a lh medium coming so ive printed a selection of the smaller points to have a play with before i buy any more .
  11. well hopefully my parcel should arrive today with my new toys in , tho i have also just brought a Minerva GW ‘Modernised’ Iron Mink, to try out another brand of stock and a decent price too . ive also printed out some peco templates ,, wow they are large i hadn't seen them in the flesh as to speak but now i can see why 8ft gets eaten up ! i will be having a play with some plans etc on some thick card to see if i can make it a little more action packed . as i think i would like one of the Minerva pecketts. ive also joined the o gauge guild so lets see what that's like .
  12. Hi Mol , That's a perfect picture thanks for finding it , as far as the layout is yes its only going to be a test bed really , but might open up for par of the larger layout . scenic's are my thing really so i can see it being a section of a light rly or industrial concern connecting to the mainline further up , also id like to have a go a building a wagon kit as that's another of m favorite things to do in OO gauge . i am happy to potter around with a loco and a couple of wagons so it should be ok for now . thanks everyone
  13. hi Guys , so i have come up with a basic layout plan to dip my toe with to get a feel for the scale and its differences from OO . Now its simple and small but i hope for a few wagons and a sentinel atm it will be a ideal thing ,as my dads had a good idea of putting a long shelf on the shed wall 14ft long that can fold down to enable a larger layout to be built and then in the nice weather i can step it up on that . so for the moment ive drawn a small plan up using what ive ordered . its 8X2 on two 4x2 boards for ease of use etc . the red box is a hut and a lever frame and the black will be a coal yard area , the large grey blob at the end by the signal will be a salt works siding . please let me know your thoughts
  14. yes i should say i am purely dc , i find dcc a faff , just something about using banks of switches and sections , plus direct control of the line i like .
  15. well its happend ive done the deed and brought a few bits to build a small starter layout to see how it all goes , ive decided on a GWR theme in the west midlands as it close to heart and home. tho for now ive got the green sentinel to play with until i get a 14xx or pannier tank . so i would like to thank everyone for their help and advice which i am sure i will continue to ask repeatedly . .
  16. Hi Guys , yes to be honest that's the sort of thing i am after , small and delightfully grotty , or the whole other way and rural and rundown haha. how long is the center headshunt ? as ive come up with a plan very close to this on anyrail using the bull head wye points , also daft question is it the standard code 100 fish plates to join the code 124 bull head? Ok so eye update after a lovely 6 and half hour wait in the hospital , ive found out that i need two ops on my eye to stop the progression of decline and then one on the right eye to stop it early . but the main point is its not going to get much better ,so it does mean that ive decide to make the switch now i will go through my 00 collection and anything thats not sentimental or useful to my dad is going up for sale . now a layout is a few months off but i am tempted to buy some stock now and have it in stock as so to speak so when the time comes i can have a play . i am drawn to the sentinel for both its short size and price but i am not sure in the long run that's what i really like as its a shed on wheels , the 08 or terrier/pannier would be better ? also would i need a new controller to run just a single loco , ive got model D, and hm duettes would these be ok ? many thanks every one
  17. AHHHH yes , i must admit its been seeing your layout over the past few weeks that has been the nudging elbow to the side , i have been toying with the idea of something very similar . the isle of wight is another idea flowing in my head , yes the hut does look simple but i also would like one on the layout as it were as scratch building buildings is not my thing at all kits are they way to go and they seem few and far between and a small layout only needs a couple of items .
  18. Hi Kevin , yes i had thought about trying one of the huts or as you said the signal box .
  19. Hi Guys, wow all can say is thanks for the support , so yes i forgot to mention some of the guides etc space and era . As for space it will be small , now i am thinking 6x2/8x2 , i am very happy to shuffle wagons around backwards and forwards with a small 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 . ive looked at hattons just to see sort of what prices i would need to get started . with a sentinel and 5 wagons some points and track its about £650 which also includes a signal box and a hut and crossing just to add to the scene . in terms of my era and location i am pretty open , i mean i do like my highland power but i think space is going to limit what i can do for the cost . but i am also very happy with light railway feel so something late 40's or 60's would work well i think with a Dapol sentinel or maybe a Heljan 02 when they arrive . so as for cost yes i think id like (as everybody) to spend as little as possible really , i dont mind the £650 to start out and looking at the prices Dapol wagons are only a little more than Bachmann 00 ones ! and as has been pointed out you need less . but i am very very grateful for all the help and advice , for a little bit of background, ive only had problems with my sight for the last 5 years or so first it was needing glasses for long distance then its got to the point in the past 18 months that the left is all a blur , resulting in wonky eyes as a family member says . now in terms of help with the layout my dad is already a very good seasoned modeler so ive got the help if i really need it but id rather not squint and cock up on 00 gauge as ive noticed i have been, and i am now unable to build my precious wagon kits so i hope hes got room for another 120 plus wagons ! thats a lovely scene and stock ,thank you for the offer i may be in touch ! happy modeling everyone .
  20. Hi everyone , i am possibly thinking of switching from 4mm to 7mm , and i am stuck as to a possible entrance way into the scale. Now i am possibly thinking of changing scales due to at the tender age of 25 i find out tomorrow if i am going to lose the sight in one eye (other ones isn't great either!) thus rendering me as blind as a flying mouse ! so i am trying to think of ways i can keep going in the hobby and one way i thought is moving up a scale , so i am looking for any advice those of you in the larger world started or would say recommend starting in o gauge . many thanks
  21. loving the cut out cabs , and the liveries. They remind me of the two 009 tram locos you made a few years ago .
