Can we have a bit of a photo essay on your embankments etc. Please
I know film development is not cheap...
But it's worth it in the long run for he record
You beat me to it there John.
That embankment is a sheer work of art Jeff.

I don’t have a wonky shed door but the eagle eyed will doubtless recognise the arm from the water crane having a lie down. No over enthusiastic grand son to blame only a clumsy old Buddha (that’ll be me then) who did this some years ago now.

A few pages back you showed a picture of some kindling stacked on your coal stage which set the grey cells a whirring and after a few hours cutting up and painting match sticks I’ve come up with my version.
Kindling brought in with some oil and once off loaded the wagon is parked in the siding awaiting the outgoing pick up goods service. All my loads are removable using a magnetic pick up tool.

Such sad news and the railway community will be a much lesser place for his passing.
Like many on here, I have many of his books and it’s the ones he wrote on realistic operation that I return to regularly, and the knowledge and wisdom he shared has greatly enhanced my pleasure when operating.
My sincere condolences to Bob’s family and friends. The world has lost another Giant of the Railway community.

Now that’s a tip I need I need to remember if I ever tackle point rodding but as I’m an N modeller that’s one of the few things I’ve rather put in the No Chance column, up until now.

I think someone put it on Tomorrow’s list and you know what they say about tomorrow.

I too really enjoy building kits, and find a spell of wagon building is a sure fire way for me to rekindle a diminished mojo.

Very nice and natural ballasting Andy and being a coastal area I’m thinking you’ll hardly need to do anything other than the lightest touch of weathering.

I couldn't wait to get the weathering powders out on this one, so I have just done this.
I've tried to use a bit of white on the sides to replicate the crossed-out chalk-written load destinations from previous trips.
I am now going to do the Newspapers BG now and call it a day... a good one at that.
Cambridge Custom Transfers produce chalk marks and I’ve used them on some of my stock.

Cheers Kevin, its my age, I can't think what I might have been thinking about when I typed that.
Years ago after my divorce I commented to the grandfather figure in my office that I’d started looking at girls again. He said that he couldn’t see anything wrong with that and asked what my problem was? “Damned if I can remember why” was my response

I've had the privacy agreement page come up every time I've clicked in today. Usually only comes up after my laptop clears trackers.
I’m using Safari on iPad and trackers are way above my pay grade I’m afraid but I’m also getting the privacy agreement appear on every layout topic I go to

Kevin has planned his structures well to omit the chippy as last time I was at the coast I remember they were a flapping nuisance. Must be where Hitchcock got the idea from.

Nice set of pictures Graham as it’s showing different views that us great unwashed don’t get to see.

I have just found and ordered a bargain brake van off ebay. It's the air braked version with yellow patches. Obviously it will need a heavy dose of weathering.
Can anyone tell me where I can get some 4mm scale shunting staff, suitable for early 80s period? I would like a guard to stand on the van's veranda (easier to type than to say) and a shunter to ride on the steps of either the van or the 08 (don't tell H&S).
Modelu have what your looking for.

I am not sure you warrant sympathy after behaving like a rock star! Good to know you haven't lost your enthusiasm. The modelling is coming on nice.

I’m just hoping the demented baboon performance doesn’t make it into the next video ……..

Seems to be out of stock everywhere at the moment and while I’m not asking anyone to reveal their sources - other than by private message, but has anyone found an alternative product that gives a similar finish?
-
Rather than adding sheep or cows to the field which might give it a cluttered look, do you think some white dots on the back scene might be better representing sheep well away from the railway?

in Settle & Carlisle LAYOUTS

A proper layout doesn’t get built at warp speed - well unless your name is Andy Peters of course. Blink and your likely to miss one.
I think one of the benefits I find with being an N modeller is that I have a few different layouts on which I can operate different stock and time periods, and where I can flit between layouts as the fancy takes me. This invariably happens when I’m getting bored with a specific task.
Currently I’m doing a base ground layer for an inner city goods yard I started when I took early retirement 9 years ago and I am now trying chinchilla dust as everything I’ve tried from the more usual sources are far too coarse for the delicate little feet of Modelu figures to traverse.
A little a day will get it done and if I don’t feel like doing any I don’t and move on an do something else, or slip through time back to the late 40’s to my GWR BLT branch line where I need to work out how to get a Dukedog into the station as it’s protruding connecting rods snag on the platform edging. Something to tax the little grey cells but as with everything there’s no rush as it’s all about the journey, and it’s not a race.
Railway modelling is our hobby, and as long as we are deriving pleasure from what we do that’s all that matters, not the rate of progress achieved or not.
