So, the race is on! Due to a misunderstanding (mainly mine) I have one Manor ordered direct from Accurascale.eu and one from Hattons. I wonder which one will get here first! They are both sound fitted so I don't know if this is done at the factory or just before they are sent out and whether or not this affects delivery dates. So many things to ponder......

I am lucky enough to have ridden behind Erlestoke Manor when I was a lad and it was shedded at Newton Abbot (I lived at Exeter), so I have ordered 7812 as well as 7800. Last summer I was lucky enough to spend a day on the footplate of 7828 Odney Manor on the WSR so I guess 7800 may get renamed and numbered! Here I am stood next to the young driver grinning from ear to ear!

I know nothing of this loco but I did have a loco that exhibited the same behaviour. Is this loco new to you, did it run OK before you made the settings and did you keep a note of what the "weird" settings were? The reason I ask is because the the loco I bought which had these issues had been fitted with a 3 volt motor. You can make this work with a Zimo decoder by limiting the voltage supplied to the motor but I do not know if you can do that with an ESU decoder.

I can only speak for myself but my reasons for buying one are:- 1 My layout is WR based so a late crest Manor will fit in fine. I did my trainspotting in the steam era in Exeter & Devon and as Erlestoke Manor was at one point shedded at Newton Abbot, it is appropriate on nostalgia grounds. 2 I am becoming a tad disenchanted with the "big" manufacturers of RTR steam locos (with the possible exception of Dapol) as I have found their locos to lack quality, have poor quality control and are overpriced. 3 Accurascale seem to be making an effort to buck the trend in 2 above. 4 What I am paying for a sound fitted Manor (complete with stay alive) seems to me a decent price in the current market for what appears to promise to be a decent model. I will be making a video of Erlestoke Manor when it arrives and will be able to state if my hopes are realised.

I live in a sunny part of France so I feel obliged to get out of bed in time for evening "aperos"! Today it is 10.15 am and I am up and about but only because I want to play trains.... sorry, I meant "operate my model railway in a prototypical fashion". I will check if the space I left in the loco shed for the Manor is still there!

I have only just seen this post and can concur that the motor is easy enough to control. I made a video of it and if you cut through the crap of my waffle at the start and see the loco running it seems fine. I am, however, using a Zimo MS440 decoder.

I will definitely order one! If like me you are into sound, it is interesting to see that the sound fitted option is again, cheaper than buying the non sound version plus a decoder. I was very pleased with the sound in my Mogul but does anyone know if the fire box flicker is likely to be better in the 28xx? I don't have a Dapol Manor (waiting for my Accurascale) so I don't know if they sorted it for that model.

I have this function on the branch line on my layout and it works perfectly. I use Zimo decoders so all I did was install a couple of Lenz ABC units and change some CVs. The cvs are 27 ,140, 141 (to set the exact stopping distance) and 193 to set the delay time before the train sets off again.

Thanks for this. All sorted and running well now.

This loco keeps cutting out and I am sure it is the pickups. I want to get the keeper plates off the get the axles out to get at the bearings and pickups. However, I cannot find a service sheet or parts diagrams for this loco and don't want to break anything by forcing it off. Any help would be appreciated.

Sense check my assumptions of ABC (Automatic Brake Control)

You have a number of options if you are going down the block detection and computer control path. iTrain works well with the Z21 so may be worth having a look at it. The information in this link may help. I have no connections with iTrain, I just use it. https://www.berros.eu/en/itrain/ -
Iain, You may well be right. I just set out how I do it. Of course, my method doesn’t work for the three locos I have with TTS sound due to no CV 5 or 6 adjustment! 😁
-
Maybe I am doing it wrong but I set a maximum speed for the loco in the app. and then play with CVs 5&6 so the loco runs at a speed which looks in line with the speed shown in the app. Works for me!

Yes you need some circuitry. I use Layouts4U anti-flickers devices (website closed at the moment) but I don’t know if they will fit in N gauge stock.
