  1. Also, unfortunately, Zimo decoders, unlike DCC Concepts ZEN decoders, don’t come with wires attached and thus require careful soldering to small pads which my hands are not steady enough to do. If Zimo decoders did come with attached stay-alive wires I would make more use of stay-alives.
  2. The only really sensible alternative to the costal route, if one is required, is to finally build the direct route to Newton Abbott under Haldon hill.
  3. Please supply references to any genuine scientific studies that suggest a sea level rise of a metre in the Dawlish area within the next 50 years! I believe your figure is something suggested that might happen somewhere in the world in the next 500-2000 years if temperatures rise.
  4. Only if you want to add two reversals and increase the journey time to Cornwall by 20 minutes or so!
  5. Well all the newly announced Pecketts including the H&P pack still appear to be available for pre-order through the Hornby website.
  6. it is and I’ve done it. Edit: Oops, somehow missed that Iain had already answered...
  7. I’ve just noticed that all of the new Pecketts that have been announced have delivery dates in 2019, so why announce them in 2018 when they are still a year away from delivery? Much better to have announced them as part of the 2019 range. They have even delayed one of the previously announced 2018 Pecketts to Feb 2019. It makes the mid year announcement even more of a damp squib.
  8. You can easily and simply change the Z21’s IP address using the maintenance program. You just have to ignore the somewhat over the top warnings when you do it!
  9. And if you had managed to set CV57=1 then at speedstep 128 you would have been applying 0.1v to the motor!
  10. and presumably it won’t sell as from June you’ll be able to get it for £39.99 (or less)!
  11. Iain, do you still have the original app installed? If so can you still read CVs with it? If you can then it would indicate a bug in the new app, if not then it must be a bug in the Z21 firmware update Nick
  12. At a low to medium speed, how far in distance does your 6600uf stay-alive get you?
  13. V1.0.6 now available for IOS. It doesn’t appear to add any new functionality or fix any of the bugs I’ve reported though. :-(
  14. With the latest Z21 firmware and 1.0.5 and 1.0.6 app I find that read/write POM works reliably with Zimo decoder, less reliably with Lenz decoders and not at all with TCS decoders. All decoders with Railcom enabled
  15. The Lenz Standard+ does not support asymmetric DCC (otherwise known as ABC). The newer Lenz Standard+ V2 does support asymmetric DCC. However, in my opinion, the Zimo decoder has a better implementation of asymmetric DCC which is smoother and more tuneable.
  16. The OP said: "However, I'm finding that it doesn't remember which way the points are set each time I turn off and back on and as a result, trains often short out the system when they travel over the points for the first time" There was no mention of Mimic boards. Using Auto Frogs would resolve his problem of shorting out where the ADS8fx had the polarity of the frog opposite to the switch of the blades and be cheaper than replacing the ADS8fx with an ADS8SX.
  17. Alternatively rather than replacing the FXs you could add Gaugemaster autofrogs (£14 for 3 from Hattons) for frog switching. I have found this a successful and cheaper option
  18. The new app does crash occasionally on my iPad 2 especially when switching from one page to another. It crashes far less often, if at all, on my iPad mini 4. Apart from POM not working, everything else seems to work reasonably well and I have grown to like the new User interface, especially the layout control pages
  19. Now I’ve upgraded both the Z21 firmware and the app, POM seems to be working better for my Zimo decoders but still doesn’t work for my Lenz or TCS decoders. Oh well, time to submit another bug report.
  20. So v1.32 of the Z21 firmware and v1.0.5 of the iOS App now available. Have installed both but haven’t had a chance to see, if between them, the fix anything. Might get a hour tomorrow...
  21. Iain, yes I find the supplied adhesive pads stick firmly to my baseboard (which is marine grade ply).
  22. I’ve just had an email from Roco saying there will be a new version of the Z21 firmware (v1.32) at the end of the week to cure the POM issue
  23. I found that after a few days I could remove the screws holding the IP digitals to my baseboard and the glue had cured enough to hold without them. This gave a significant noise reduction, still not totally quiet though. I'm just now hoping that in the heat of the summer months the glue doesn't melt and allow the motors to fall off.
  24. A problem with the Hornby Points decoder is that although it contains 4 channels they all share one CDU which takes at least 2 seconds to recharge between uses. This means you can’t throw points connected to the same decoder faster than one every 2 seconds. The DCC Concepts decoders have a CDU per channel so that limitation does not apply.
  25. I've reported the POM issue today via the App too
