  1. With credit to Mr Trump for the idea, The Ramsgate Strain or possibly Ramsgate 19 will be on everyone's lips shortly.
  2. I have to admit, I have no idea what plywood I use.
  3. The energy inefficiency of this always puts me off.
  4. Apparently ITV4 can sometimes suffer from 'chateau-lag', where the commentary team is stuck 1 château behind the one on view.
  5. Someone was having fun driving the wee unit backwards and forwards on stage 1.
  6. Attempt 1 at using (dry) weathering powder (with a paintbrush). Conclusion: not very good. Cotton ball might do better.
  7. I thought long and hard about this when starting my baseboards. I used a 6mm ply - softwood block spacer 6mm ply sandwich for the ends of two of my boards, but decided that they were too bendable/squeezable between the spacers. (disclaimer: could be the design, could be the workmanship). I went for 9mm ply for the verticals, but 6mm for the trackbed, as I needed an element of flexibility there. So far seems good, but nothing running yet. I'm wondering about 3mm ply sandwiched for a helix as a way of getting pieces to stick together end to end.
  8. Lining it with Scalescenes brick paper using a unique/hand crafted/artisan template and adding stone voissiors (?) There are a few gaps that need filling, and the whole thing is going to get so thoroughly weathered that the brickwork will be almost invisible, but it has been satisfying (and time consuming) to make.
  9. Making a curved tunnel roof from mountboard and cereal card
  10. Keep up the commentary, including the wee throwaway gems. Nice modelling too. Not so fast though, you're putting me to shame.
  11. Is it still the case that Ordnance Survey include a deliberate error in each map so that unauthorised copies can be spotted? Maybe the same approach here.
  12. I take it you are talking about a plane rather than a road?
  13. To demonstrate the speed of my modelling. 2 years ago I asked this question. Today I finally open the vari-girder packet. Don't think my spans are going to win prizes for length.
  14. Current job: arguing with a Seep point motor (won't throw point) and making an underpass. I wanted that undulating steel ceiling look, helpfully the Scalescenes girder bridge kit has just that option. Although its tricky to do, see my first attempt versus second try.
  15. The Men They Couldn't Hang - Rain, Steam and Speed Also - Midnight Train - I think about nuclear waste transport? Imagine the music class where you are given that theme to write a song around. They do a fair amount of historical-themed songs - Ironmasters, Waiting For Bonaparte [Spithead mutiny], Ghosts of Cable Street.
  16. I am an idiot. I couldn't find any useful old power packs, but I realised I do have a Hornby train set controller, which has '19v DC' on the track output. Wire this into a power track, hold one wire to one rail and momentarily brush the other wire to the other rail, bob's your uncle. They work, so now I can whack them under the baseboard and wire into place. And even test again.
  17. I don't have a controller with an auxiliary output. AC/DC confuses me. (As does amps, volts etc.) Is there anything I might have lying around that I can use to test them?
  18. Not sure if this helps, but I sometimes (often) can't get Google to help because I don't know the right term for the subject. Eg at the weekend I was looking for info on multi pin electrical joiner covers. Turns out I should have been searching D sub.
  19. It certainly gets around! Some lovely work there, wish I could reach those levels.
  20. Today's Random Skill Unexpectedly Learnt Through Modelling: a 4 way plait.
