I lost my Rover 214Si (1993, 238K miles) in Nov 2016.  The head gasket lasted till about 180K miles.  Can you get it fixed?  An independent garage may not be as expensive as you think (mine cost about 200 -250 notes, maybe 5 years ago).  If the rest of the car is ok then it's worth a thought.
