  1. This photo was taken at Frampton Mansell probably, not far from Chalford, looking west, with the viaduct just out of sight on the curve. Was a photo of the viaduct taken the same day? The twisting lane on the left and lack of houses on the far hill rule out Chalford itself, I think.
  2. J3264 - More likely 1969 from studying the number. C7431 - Definitely 37033. According to http://www.class37info.co.uk/history.aspx, 1Z43 12.30 Edinburgh - Dundee footex and return. .
  3. J5100 - Both are blurry but to me the number and nameplate lettering don't shout out 55003 Meld. J5101 - Leading car is E50022. Does this mean trailer is E56022?
  4. The last two digits of the loco number appear to be 70, which narrows it down to a couple of candidates of which D6870 is the most likely as it was transferred to Healey Mills at the end of 1966, according to http://www.class37info.co.uk. The eighth vehicle in train is a brake van, I think.
  5. J3111 might even be Alycidon or Crepello. There are white smudges near the doors at both ends which show it has not been renumbered.
  6. This might be hard to believe but the Deltic in J3111 has a number at both ends.
  7. Meld, Pinza, Tulyar and Nimbus all had short nameplates of the same length.
  8. 1624 had a different boiler from 1524 as built according to http://www.class47.co.uk and the boiler experts might have something to say!
  9. To my eyes, J3263 is 1524 or 1624 (second digit is the least clear) and J3266 is 5399 (the experts on air brakes might have something to say).
  10. One of four with same-sized small nameplate: D9003 MELD, D9007 PINZA, D9015 TULYAR, D9020 NIMBUS What they were up to in 1963: http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/3-63.htm http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/7-63.htm http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/15-63.htm http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/20-63.htm If a Saturday, it would have been the 6th, 13th, 20th or 27th. D9007 looks too clean on the 27th: http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/7_27-4-63.htm
  11. Is there some sort of grab handle quite high up on the left-hand side? It resembles the mirror image of a question mark.
  12. Based on nameplate length I'd say candidates are D9000 or D9013. D9004 nameplate too long and same for D9016, I think. There is something between the louvres above the nameplate that is consistent with a round badge, therefore I'll opt for D9000: http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/0272.htm
  13. Possibly 1949. Third digit definitely 4. Second and fourth look very similar.
  14. I think one say to the nearest second how much earlier J4123 is than C1836 - one second! Deltics in order of first appearance: Queen's Own Highlander Argyll and Sutherland Highlander Royal Highland Fusilier Very apt for the snowy weather and either an inspired choice or a random fluke but to take our minds off the cold I would have preferred Bahamas.
  15. Are these new photos? All can be identified. J4123 was taken earlier than C1836!
  16. Until today I'd assumed "Pinza" would be larger but overlaying photos found on Flickr it appears to be the same size as "Meld".
  17. Size of warning panel means chance of a correct ID is better than 1 in 10.
