  1. Looks like 87019 to me. I'd forgotten Class 87s had numbers at both ends at this time, assuming that fact ever registered in my brain in the first place!
  2. I agree, as last digit is 2 it cannot be anything other than Crepello.

  4. Thank you for altering the caption for J4182. I apologise if I seemed to be impatient, the "mentioned twice" sentence was simply an attempt to acknowledge the earlier comments. C6096 today is a classic case of a loco that cannot be identified because of BR's daft policy of renumbering at one end only and there must be dozens of similar examples in this topic by now.
  5. As already mentioned twice the loco is not 37258. From the full-size photo it is 3709x and doubling the image width the best bet is probably 37092.
  6. Thanks for the correction. If I had not wrongly discounted 55017 that's the one I would have chosen from the nameplate.
  7. In June 1981 55002 was green and 55005 had been withdrawn. Only possible candidates with two-line nameplates are 10/11/14/19/21 (cannot be 17). Does not appear to be 19 or 21.
  8. I'm trying to make sense of this bridge but I can't. The bottom span is really odd.
  9. Photo of Islip in 1951 looking in opposite direction here: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/i/islip/ Note two lighter markings on platform and position of crossover, never mind the structures. Islip station was demolished and rebuilt, then demolished and rebuilt again.
  10. I think the Standish Junction photos were taken about halfway between there and Stonehouse stations (closed and open), slightly nearer the latter. Both trains heading north so DMU Swindon to Gloucester (at least). Princes Risborough to Oxford service withdrawn in 1963. Station might be Islip and train from Oxford.
  11. 2271 is a Class 04. I like Class 03s but I like Class 04s a bit more! I have waited 192 pages since page 192 to mention this because I wanted to make a Deltic, hexadecimally speaking!
  12. Re C9343, where is the second track? Should it be Saltburn to Darlington?
  13. Re C21395 A rather odd collection of six cottages, four sharing a path to the front door and judging by the central window all of them sharing a half lean-to and half gable-ended porch.
  14. Re J3181 (and J2889) Was the former Haresfield signal box visible in the background still open to control the level crossing or had that already been replaced with a foot crossing? The box does not look boarded up yet and it survived for another 20 years at least: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3612901 Re J3183 Farm track bridge in the background was demolished years ago but the brick abutments are (or were) easily noticeable from passing trains.
  15. Perhaps I was too subtle before. The man in the cab is more confusing now!
  16. Re J596, no light engine disc headcode visible - for a very good reason! The man in the cab was only there probably to confuse people 50 years later. Shame that pole is in the way but quite understandable in the circumstances and still an excellent study of the best-looking diesel-electric in its best-looking livery. D251?
  17. Re J023, what is that behind the middle cab window? Following the progress of the Baby Deltic Project prompts another question: did the three types of "triple glazed" English Electric loco have identical cab windows and doors? I could look at photos of EE Type 4s all day long, particularly in green. So graceful, dignified and classy looking.
