  1. I'd be very happy for these items to go by courier if the recipient arranges and pays for the courier pick-up.

  4. Horton Road depot site sold for housing: https://www.punchline-gloucester.com/articles/aanews/developer-reveals-plans-for-300-home-70m-regeneration-scheme
  5. Just found the second and correct pic but keefer has beaten me to it. Apart from warning flashes only clean bits are where the numbers are otherwise they'd be unidentifiable!
  6. D5390 + D5377 crossing Horton Road, May 1968: https://www.flickr.com/photos/curly42/4158046611/in/album-72157628730473529/
  7. Thanks for the larger photo. Greyscale, negative, 200% horizontal stretch Greyscale, negative, 200% horizontal stretch, 50% magnification I'm still plumping for D842!
  8. Thanks, I believe we can do better than D84x, though. When I plumped for D842 I hadn't checked which D84x carried maroon and there were only four: D840/2/4/8. The third digit in the photo is different from the others which rules out D844/8 and looks like '2' to me, as it has a horizontal at the bottom. A '0' would be quite easy to spot, I think. In summary, it would be safe to say "probably D842." Sorry for being so fussy but there might not be another Warship to identify. .
  9. Not D827, which means we have a Spot-the-Warship contest - yippee! I go for D842 Royal Oak, seen at Reading in 1969 in the photo below. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6108/6310136322_6c94fdcb16_b.jpg I'm giving this a bump because caption still reads D827. There are two good reasons why this is not correct: 1. The number is clearly D84-something. 2. D827 was never maroon! No criticism of Dave intended.
  10. Not D827, which means we have a Spot-the-Warship contest - yippee! I go for D842 Royal Oak, seen at Reading in 1969 in the photo below. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6108/6310136322_6c94fdcb16_b.jpg
  11. Not 44617 as that didn't exist! Number is hard to decipher, possibly 44672. Is there another photo of this loco, perhaps? .
  12. I think it's safe to say that D5909 was the first of its class to go blue! No prizes for guessing where I saw it.
  13. I agree that J6415 is more likely to be 55014 than 11 and the others are right out!
  14. All right, let's have a "Spot-the-A4 Competition"! Not many candidates. Nameplate appears to have two short words with first longer than second.
  15. Re J1244, last digit is 7 almost certainly and first one looks more like 1 than D, therefore must be 107 from split boxes. Re J1286, D9004 Queen's Own Highlander. Last digit of 4 is easier to see on the far number. Cannot be D9014 as nameplate is a two-liner. Very long single-line name is the giveaway without the number. .
  16. J1244 is a class 45 and 171 was a 46 so number not right. Not a simple typo of 117 as highest one with split headcode boxes was 107 and that's my choice. J1286 can only be one, surely, which I'll leave to others. .
  17. It's good to see a headcode panel in working order, presumably. Something I've always wondered about is how headcodes were changed, not just for Class 14s, e.g. the nose ends on Class 20s. Which had to been done from outside the cab?
  18. According to http://www.brdatabase.info, in 1965 D383 was allocated to Camden and D393 to Gateshead.
  19. Apologies to Market65, but I think D393 is more likely. There is a gap in the middle number, below the centre that extends all the way to the left. Although the style of numbering is different, here is a later view of 393 at March from a very similar angle which shows that extra handrails were added to the nose: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3608/3419281208_2456c6cb29_o.jpg .
  20. I think J2980 is most likely to be 9011, just from the photo without any other evidence. The similar weather and slide numbering suggest J2979 and J2980 were shot on the same day, which according to the Napier Chronicles for 9012 must be either the 15th or 29th of July 1972. 9011 hauled 1A13 on the latter, but what is was doing on the 15th is unrecorded. Thus the exact date for both photos could very well be Saturday 29th July 1972, thanks largely to headcode panels. It's a pity they stopped being used as locos with them never looked as good afterwards. .
