Coach doors scribed in.
Cast cabs and rear ends fixed in place.
I’ll let the glue cure overnight. Much filling and sanding awaits…

Next on the bench is this MTK version of the BR Derby Lightweight Ultrasonic Test Train.
I already have a set of Railtec decals for it.Spot the use of press studs in the test wheel assembly mouldings.

So with respect to the original topic, just to recap:-
- WCRC has now provided rake(s) of MK2 coaches with CDL fitted for the Jacobite trains.
- These trains are unheated.
- The steam loco they use has broken down at least once.
Is this an accurate summary?

I have to admit that I am inconsistent with my approach to building these kits. It is definitely more efficient to complete identical tasks on both/all coaches side-by-side, however I find some of the tasks more fun than the others. Roof detailing is a bit of a chore so it is more motivating (i.e. “fun”) for me to move on to the priming and painting stage of one coach than to get the second coach up to speed. That way the grunt work is evened out along with the more enjoyable tasks.
In this instance I did make both plasticard rear walls for the coaches at the same time.
The olive paint I am using for these coaches is mixed by Phoenix so I’m confident that the finishes will match.

If the cover text gets you that riled up then you must be totally apoplectic by the time you have read the first article.
I have to admit that I tend to look at the pictures and then revert to the text if a particular shot interests me - the exception being the practicals. I seldom get irked by the content with the exception of one modeller referring to his customary Spitfire flying over the layout next the picture of a Hurricane flying over the layout.

For scribing I use an Olfa P-Cutter.
For flat surfaces I use a steel rule as a guide and for curved surfaces - such as coach roofs - I tape plasticard to the surface to act as a guide.Cheers

I built this Translink (Northern Ireland) CAF3000 unit a few years ago using CMAC bodyshells on modified Bachmann Class 170 chassis.
And this Class 325 unit using the CMAC bodies, bogies and chassis.
The CMAC bodies are very well rendered and easy to work with. Many of the kits come with underframes and bogies.
Highly recommended if you have kit building experience.

Pick this one out of the line up…
I can see two driving coaches amongst the various units but no sign of the centre cars.
Cab masking could be better but it may be down to the quality of the resin cab casting.

I used Airfix Mk2d coaches for conversion to the Manchester Pullman coaches a few years ago. From memory the chassis has tabs at each end that engage in slots in the plastic corridor connectors. There are also clips on the chassis sides that engage in tabs on the window glazing strips. To remove the chassis you need to remove the corridor connectors and pry the coach body sides away from the chassis so as to disengage the tabs.

PS - nobody can see the pictures as they were all lost in an IT failure a few years ago.
