Good to see a non-passenger unit being modelled. Perhaps the next build might look at the de-icing units?
Hi Ian,I’ve already built the MTK 2-HAL de-icing unit - see the first post in this thread.

Incorrect flush sliding doors cut from brass bodyshell and openings cleaned up.
New recessed doors made from plasticard and glued in place.
Softly moulded jumper cable/socket/pipe details removed from white metal cab front and the front sanded smooth. The details will be restored using plasticard brass rod and electrical wire.
White metal doors and cab front attached to body. The MTK cast cab roof will need to be fettled to fit. O joy!!!

Hi Dave,
Yes please. There are only a few that I can find on the web and the are not close up shots.
I was wondering whether the interior had been stripped of the compartments and seating and what form the large door was - I see it’s a sliding door panel.Cheers

Alas it won’t be the 4DD - a peruse of 74009’s thread on building that kit will tell you why…
I have decided to take it easy a tad and build the 2-HAL Stores unit.

For the next MTK project I thought I would take things relatively easy and build the 2-HAL Stores Unit kit using some spare Hornby 2-BIL/HAL
underframes to make things easier.
The parts for the non-cab ends are missing from the kit so I will need to scratch build those from plasticard.
Having already built the MTK 2-HAL De-icer unit this one should be relatively straightforward. The large roller doors are quite recessed on the prototype so the MTK “flush” ones will need to be cut out and replaced.
Cheers

Dorian.....sorry I mean Darius (🤭), did you stock up on Hornby drive units and bogies - as well as a mountain of plasticard - in readiness for this MTK onslaught, while they were still available, possibly from Lendon's of Cardiff who sell these bogies at astonishingly low prices........when they have them? I've had a 2-BIL motor bogie on back order for a couple of years or more and I think I may have to wait until Hornby produce another batch of these EMUs to get hold of it - fortunately I'm in no rush, and by the time it arrives I think its purpose may have changed anyway!
I do have a few in the stash…Cheers

Anyway, it must now be time for the what's next poll?
Although I wouldn't blame you for actually getting on with some of your own modelling instead of impressing and humbling us lesser mortals!
Mike.
Any requests?

I reckon you must live in some kind of quantum realm which makes your days longer than everyone else's! It doesn't seem to matter how many vehicles are involved, or the complexity - window frame overlays on this one - all you seem to require per kit is one month (standard Earth time equivalent!)
Well, you see, it’s like this. I’ve got this portrait in the attic…Cheers

This is, without doubt, the finest rendition of an MTK kit that I have seen!
If I may, though - perhaps some finer handrail knobs for future builds?
CJI.
Thanks John - agreed they are a bit chunky. All I had to hand were some spare Hornby handrail/knob sets that I found on eBay a few years ago.The knobs as fitted are plastic so they can be sliced off and replaced with finer ones in future.

The Bankes Arms in Corfe Castle is a great place to have lunch and a few beverages whilst enjoying a day out on the Swanage Railway. There is a good view of both the castle and the railway from the beer garden.

Yes - once the coach body is on you really have to look hard to see the upholstery. Still there is the satisfaction to be had knowing that it is “there”.
I’ve also found this method to be quicker, easier and neater than painting the seats. It’s also a lot less messy.

Whole interior airbrushed a wood panelling colour - plus a coat of acrylic varnish (Klear).
Home made upholstery decal sheet cut to fit the seats.
And applied to each seat.
Armrests painted to match.
Tabletops painted a lighter wood colour.
Almost complete - still need to paint the floor.
Floor painted.

I created larger fabric panels in MS Paint using swatches from the web and printed them on to white decal paper, sealing with spray on matt varnish.
The seat upholstery was cut out of the larger decal and applied as a “traditional” waterslide decal.
I painted the seat armrests with enamel paint (red and white) mixed to match, as far as possible, the fabric colour.
I will show this process in the next post.
