It runs beautifully, but needs cab handrails (were these separate items, because fixing holes are present?). Has anyone any idea of a price for this, please?
Bachmann do seem to have the spares available for it - https://bachmann-spares.co.uk/product/category/709/class-24--handrail-packs---cab%2bfront-door-grey-plastic--32-400/e3240-mis-01
I've broken enough over the years.

I'm bad. 😇
The last line of my review...
"The other, mischievous, thought that I was left with after reviewing this, in an age where there are multiple manufacturers of several diesel classes is – would another OO model of a Black Five be viable? If there’s a list you could add me to it."

What an absolutely stunning model Ellis; well done to you and the team. It oozes quality.
Reviewing it for BRM at the mo; I got a bit humpy about Hornby's brightwork on the 2MT but it's absolutely superb on this.

So when you see a full list of functions is it safe yo assume they will all work or just some of them?
How far do you want to go? For a model manufacturer to tell you what third-party controllers will or will not be able to control whatever functions on third-party decoders? That's the responsibility of the customer to research too. The current definitions are understood sufficiently well and consistently used across all manufacturers so they don't need redefining because you have misunderstood; you're extrapolating your opinion onto the rest of the hobby.

I took DCC Ready to be plug and play a decoder. I was rather miffed to find out it didn't mean this at all.
Yes, it means you can plug a decoder in.
Oven-ready meals? Are they ready to eat?
Race-ready car? Does it include a driver?

Given you are not too far away I'd recommend a trip over to Model Railway Solutions and have a chat and look at the quality. A great team and an excellent shop so you'll leave with other stuff too.

It’s never a good time to ask for an update when people are wrestling with recalcitrant software on top of their other jobs but.. is the classified advert section looking like a problem that’s going to take a while to solve @AY Mod, or are you hopeful they’ll be back soon? (Sorry!
It's back with the app developers as an install on Friday brought the síte crashing down. We obviously have a different definition of 'fixed'.
But Sunday is never the best day to ask.

If anything it makes a case for only shipping models DCC fitted and DCC Sound fitted? Both options support DC running and both provide full functionality?
It certainly does if, as manufacturer, your customers are buying mainly sound/fitted products but maybe not so if your customer base are those who are DCC unfriendly (normally trad steam) who would think you'd fleeced them of a tenner. ;)

No, I shall modify them thanks, but the point is, you shouldn't have to.
You got what you ordered, the law permits you to return them. Anything else is just a moan because you made a poor judgement for your requirements before purchase.

Ally Pally show (same organisers) which is now less than four weeks away has no thread for it at all.
I'll get round to it, it's been a busy month. It's in the Exhibition Calendar and all the layout and other information is on the Ally Pally menu tab at the top of every page.

The problem is they do exist!
Sure do; on a Facebook post about our show at the NEC someone's moaning that the show is at the wrong time as it coincides with Christmas lights being turned on in various towns. In the words of Radiohead, "so ****** special".

Good news Andy. It might be nice to mention somewhere that this is the successor to the Warley National show.
We're trying to be clear it's a new event and that we've not taken over Warley's event as they may well be wanting to do something else at some point and that's their name.

for most of the specialist trade that is a day before and an after show that is also taken out because of packing and unpacking so I will not be surprised if they decided to miss this one
That applies to any show (unless it's on a traders' doorstep), not just this. The NEC does benefit from being reasonably central and accessible for most of the country, the trade and the visitors. The comments I've had from the trade are enthusiastic and supportive so please don't presume what will happen from a detached position.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new railway modelling exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. The National Festival of Railway Modelling will take place over the weekend of November 23 & 24, 2024.
Show information - https://www.rmweb.co.uk/shows/nfrm-2024/
The new show is being organised by Warners Group Publications which has a rich history in producing the UK’s best model railway shows. The company already organises The London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace, The Festival of British Railway Modelling in Doncaster and the Bristol Model Railway Exhibition.
As well as the three leading shows, the company also publishes British Railway Modelling magazine (BRM), Narrow Gauge World, Garden Rail and Traction plus websites World-of-Railways.co.uk and RMweb.co.uk.
Details are still being confirmed but the team organising The National Festival of Railway Modelling are promising a vast selection of the UK’s finest model railways covering all gauges and scales, plus a mix of trade including major manufacturers, the UK’s best retailers and a mass of specialist traders selling everything a railway modeller could possibly need. The show will be one of the hobby’s biggest shopping events of the year. Visitors can also expect demonstrations from expert modellers as well as a selection of societies and model railway clubs.
Steve Cole, publisher of Warners’ railways portfolio, had this to say about the new show: “Railway modelling needs a national exhibition to showcase the hobby. We have a proven track record of putting on amazing shows and know the new NEC show will be our biggest and best yet!
“Attendance to our own shows is growing, our magazine copy sales are on the increase and traffic to RMweb.co.uk is over 129,000 modellers per month. The hobby is thriving! We promise to put on an amazing two-day exhibition. Our team are immersed in the hobby and will hand-pick the best model railways and demonstrations to produce a great weekend for all the family.”
Richard Mann, New Business Director for the NEC, said: “We’re really excited to be welcoming The National Festival of Railway Modelling to our venue in November, in what will be a celebration of all things model railways.
“We know there are many enthusiasts that have a real passion for the sector, so we’re thrilled to be welcoming specialist traders and some of the UK’s major manufacturers to the show. We know the two-day exhibition will give visitors a weekend to remember.”
More information will be revealed in the coming weeks including a list of layouts, traders and ticket prices.

From Roger Lewis of Squires.
"DJH Loco Ltd.
I am sure many will have heard the sad news that DJH Group Ltd are closing down and ceasing all manufacturing.
I am very pleased to say that Squires are purchasing the assets of DJH Model Loco Ltd.
This includes the tooling, masters, cads, original drawings etc to produce the ranges previously offered, this includes the O Gauge, OO and HO ranges and the Motor and Gearboxes that DJH produced.
We wish to continue the Ready to Run range of O Gauge Locos and to also offer the bespoke building service as currently offered by DJH.
There will be little or no complete stock available to buy on completion, and there is literally tons of moulds, masters, etches, spares and machines to be moved before we can start production again.
A lot of work to do but very excited.
Yes, Squires "went shopping" again!"

Whether or not it works with the droopy couplings beloved of some manufacturers remains to be seen.
I did ask Bachmann how it would cope with droopy Heljan or Dapol couplings and they said it should uncouple ok from the tests done. Whether you can couple up is a different matter.
