  1. Most countries seem to care about this type of thing - except your country (UK) and mine (Greece). Back in the 1960s, Greece produced more or less anything any other “Western” industrialised country could do. Then, our leaders decided that Greece could do better with tourism and deliberately ran most of our industry down. Yes, having a military junta didn’t help but that was later. Why does this matter? Well, Greece has a good climate, UK doesn’t! Be warned against politicos who only serve each other. G.
  2. What would you get if Edward Woodward had no “D”s? . . . Ewar Woo war!
  3. I like Greek jokes! Here is two more; Why did a lot of people get parking tickets when Persephone was taken to the Underworld? Demeter wasn't functioning. Did you hear about the war between Greece and Turkey? The Turks were lobbing hand grenades; the Greeks were pulling the pins and throwing them back.
  4. Oh my goodness! You apparently have zero experience of American railways outside of “cowboy” films! Were you to undertake some research into the lines and routes of such roads as the Pennsylvania RR or it’s main competitor, the New York Central - you would see that back in the day when steam was having it’s last hurrah, they did indeed have good quality routes that could support fast trains. First generation passenger diesel locomotives were geared for 117 mph iirc so must have been expected to reach the ton frequently enough? It was only through the period of the late 1960s, 1970s and beyond that track maintenance was deferred and derailments became more frequent. Even so, there are parts of the US network today that are very high quality I.e. parts of the NE corridor (140mph) and coming out of the Powder River basin for example. The latter isn’t any kind of high speed but is high quality due to the volume of traffic. These are not isolated examples either. Also, the US axle loading is very much higher than in the UK or Europe so that needs to be taken into consideration.
  5. Hello Paul, Highly inspiring work, I love! Thanks also for the various details about the workings and history behind this models. Giannis from Greece.
  6. As a usually H0 scale modeller - I am tempted! This is a very high specification model (brass bearings, die cast metal boiler, chassis etc) and for this specification in H0, I would expect to pay more than the quoted price so yes, it’s expensive but I’d rather pay for quality than quantity. Well done Clark Railworks. Giannis.
  7. Why would anyone refer to something from the 14th century when something exists that is much closer in time to the man himself? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Mosaic Thank you, now back to the jokes, G.
  8. I note you add a caveat but “forty or fifty years on”? How about a joke from 3000 years ago? "The Emperor Augustus was touring the Empire, when he noticed a man in the crowd who bore a striking resemblance to himself. "Intrigued, he asked: 'Was your mother at one time in service at the Palace?' "'No, your Highness,' the man replied, 'but my father was.'
  9. My apologies! I thought I had saved it from my favourite car forum. G.
  10. Surely the class 58 is the diesel most in need of bringing up to date? The Hornby one is positively ancient and the Heljan one? I had a couple and they were quite poor, they wouldn’t pull for toffee and the detailing is crude at best. Barely equal to the final Lima models in my opinion. G.
  11. In my early modelling days, I had one and I remember it being a reasonable runner - even as it towered over the same company’s coaches. I think it was in an early blue livery, not the regular BR blue. G.
  12. That only relates to the linear scale of some of their coaches. All other measurements being correct 1/87 meaning the coach is the correct height and width. The reason for this is such coaches are 26.4 metres long and therefore eat up huge amounts of layout space. Older models used to be to 1/100 scale but these did look too short.
  13. Of course. Simply set cv3 and cv4 to 0 This mean acc delay and dec delay is switch off. Giannis.
