  1. Found a bit of time to construct a machine box to fit on my bolsters . Not into a wood load so it was pipe or this .Now I need to construct D shackles to use to tie the load on all planks are individually cut from obechi then glued with pva I realised after everything was glued I could have put weight in it DUH ! I use a proxxon saw really good tool for this . IMG_0837 by phil, on Flickr Im cleaning the ngg11 next and giving it a good oiling and repairing a little damage to the front . Someone decided to do the ultimate no no and run into it . and hopefully the weather will clear up and it will stop raining so I can get out and work on the railway . Phil
  2. Possibly an Abbot SPG they were same chassis as 432 some had a small side skirt some didn't [Abbot] phil
  3. Hi Mathew Just curious do you spray from cans or airbrush? Myself prefer the airbrush and acrylics now much cleaner, easier to mix a batch of paint and I can do it in the workshop I've put a lot of clutter away, but I never can keep this area clear. Too many projects but as you can see the spray booth sits in the workshop . Works for me anyway The garage is full of a lathe and various woodwork machines and junk .Which is on my to do list phil
  4. Hi Mike One of the peter angus geared locos DSCF0918 b by phil, on Flickr These run superbly slow and are very well behaved, I promised myself if I see one of these up for sale somewhere ill get one . http://www.timpdon.co.uk/timpdon/index.htm Have you seen chris,s layout ,all his locos run slow and gentle although he doesn't shunt, mainly about entertaining the kids with a lot of little cameos around the layout. My Katie light load, about 20psi runs for about 65 mins outside but no gradients totally flat Roundy, Roundy . phil
  5. Really interested in the the inertia control . What sort of pressure do you run at ? and what sort of run time do you get out of the jack ? Does the inertia shorten the run time? phil
  6. Bent my countess on its first run out ,smashed the whistles off on a low bridge and found it upside down still steaming after track had collapsed . All part of the driving experience phil PS Great pics
  7. Glad I'm not the only one that has all these problems .The last open day nothing would steam or run , managed near the end to run my criccieth castle after a quick battery charge .Now whom forgets to charge up there batteries ? But it is irritating .IMG_0812 by phil, on Flickr Got serious problems with this after a gas jet change still running sick So that's on my todo list next . phil
  8. This should explain what roundhouse do to their regulators ,and why phil http://roundhouse-eng.com/ sorry cant get it to paste the tech sheet go to parts in the index click on technical and click on service sheets and click again on sheet 6
  9. Your receiver and battery pack should be enough to power 5 servos, so you don't need to add anything .just a servo mount and arm +the actuator on your regulator that's about it .The receiver that your servo plugs into has normally 5 sockets ,you want the middle one this will give full travel which is what you want for the regulator if you get stuck pm me will sort somat owt phil
  10. Using reversing lever as speed control, Wont work well on inclines or emergency stop .Seen spectacular derailments using that way .And to my mind if you are running behind someone's pride and joy at a garden rail meet and run up the back of it . That's a BIG no no . I normally clear the line to run manual or semi manual locos ive seen too many upset owners in my time .I run my manual coal fired edrigg on its own and not on open day. Normally a private session if you want to see it running or have a go. All my locos are now radio including my coal fired garrett. I like to control what I'm running ,on my system I can run 2-3 locos comfortably with no problems with radio DSCF0319 by phil, on Flickr as you can see there is not enough room on edrigg for servos + she gets really hot on the footplate when running. DSCF0918 b by phil, on Flickr I don't own this but its a Peter Angus geared loco ,this you set running and it stays at a set speed , slow and constant. Definitely on my wish list phil
  11. Nah should be on the regulator .its easy to stick the servo on the forward reverser Sooner have it on the regulator I hate chasing after manual locos ,that's the wife's job . Hows your daughter , has everything gone to plan no complications ? phil
  12. Hi Bob is it radio control on the regulator and still manual control on the forward / reverse? phil
  13. It is Burton south but the loco is approaching moor street bridge and gated crossing that used to be . Ind Coope bottling plant is to the left/ behind the signal box.
  14. http://www.wickes.co.uk/Celotex-50mm-High-Performance-Insulation-Board-1200-x-2400mm/p/190544 This what you are asking for Bob? sorry you beat me too it idris
  15. Idris cant go wrong with Paul .customer service second to non and when I collected edrigg from him gave me instruction and a run on his test circuit . when I had a minor problem he sent me a replacement part foc . definitely 5 star service. phil
  16. Think its every 16mms dream ,I own two coal fired engines and to be honest would like another .When I bought the edrigg conversion it was a cheaper way of getting one ,with the cost of edrigg and the conversion it was under £2,700 at the time .But before going to buy any coal fired engine I would advise going to see the model in action first ,speaking to if possible to 1 or 2 buyers and finding out if there is back up if anything goes wrong. Its a lot of money invested if it turns out a lemon. And once you have one that runs well its pure enjoyment and the smell of burning coal is bliss phil
  17. Yep I buy pease coal ,which is small pieces that saves you smashing it up yourself [ resembling peas] .There is another type that gives off a yellow sulphurous smoke ,but cant remember what that is called. To start the fire you need wood charcoal soaked in white spirit .I have to break this up into small pieces stick it into a sealed jam jar and flood with the white spirit .Don't use meths cause you cant see that burning IT is interesting trying to balance the water coal and fire to keep everything running, and I don't get it right everytime , its great learning and every run is different. 9v battery gives an idea of how small the pieces are phil
  18. Run the coal fired edrigg today . need to get a video camera ,but havnt a clue which one, so i can film my endevours .She ran well [i love the smell of the burning coal] . any way remembered to get the camera out after I bought her back with the DM6, which is usual for me . Still havnt named her yet Phil
  19. Hi Bob , nice shed, but dont leave your locos in it. Even if its locked up like fort Knox and armour plated . poor warrior ,I think ill go and shout at the wife now Phil
  20. great moment, but how many yards of track have you used to date? or to complete the circuit ? phil
  21. Sorry to here about your youngest bob . got to disagree with you about warrior ,dont think you should dirty her. Too pretty for that . great job though phil
  22. Idris what are you packing your points up with?, I presume with the hand built track you don't need to use a rail bender? phil
  23. well done that man. Are you going to put a coat of satin varnish as a top coat ? phil
  24. If my Mrs was involved the parts would be all over the house. It must be a swmbo thing . Put it away anywhere as long as its not together .So ill go and hide her crayoning book or hide a couple of pieces of her jigsaw puzzle so she cant finish it ,then when shes gone off to work [ cos I'm a kept man] putting them in to finish it Revenge is sweet. phil
  25. Grand job Bob Ive seen a lot of pics and the odd video of the colliery traffic in steam around your area. My mate gives me the low down what was where when we pass certain areas . When I was a kid we used to go to the local sidings and cook bacon and eggs on the stove in the guards vans. [Often they were still lit} What amazed me in all the years we did this we only got chased off once. They must have known we were there? phil
