  1. I'm lucky then my kettle operative loves it ,from mixing the concrete to humping the bricks, blocks etc. Or running a coal fired engine .She sometimes assists in operating layouts at shows. img017 by phil, on Flickr

  5. Well went to Doncaster rail show, didn't intend to buy this but a mans gotta do etc. all the bits supplied with the loco .The only things not supplied is:- gas, batteries, and water . So when I've sourced rechargeable nimh batts I will give it a test run .There is a generator casting that has to be screwed onto the tank but that's it phil
  6. Hi Bob yep Milton Keynes was a great show very busy . Only a one day show though . Got back 9.30 pm sat night ,then sun we went to Doncaster show for a look round and buy a few odds and ends. This was before the show started ,we were right next to the Bachmann stand .Didn't get a chance to take any pics after the show started just too busy .Enjoyed ourselves though phil

  8. you could have run a steamer if you had used a mixed gas butane /propane mix 70%/30% .I tend to run this gas from sept - may then summer months butane. The only loco I run the mix gas all year round is the darj Garrett phil
  9. Get him to do radiators and the little detail bits as a favour .You would be amazed at what could be produced and the quality .and its cheaper than castings .A mini lathe also helps for the odd bearing or radiator cap too phil
  10. You surprised me bob ,I just presumed with the metal work on the steam locos that the diesel was metal too . Is it all plastic? or have you added any metal bits? You could have done a blow by blow construction thread , great model phil
  11. Still a 50mile round trip for me, but Tims always helpful and he will test it before you buy never quibbles about a return either phil
  12. Been in early today class 40 sound was being tested really impressed for n gauge. Had a coffee made by his daughters fair hand ,the usual T boy had a day off, and relieved of a few pounds [ Bachmann 16 ton minerals with loads 3 pack weathered x3] wished Tim and trev a merry Christmas. Probably pay another visit after Christmas too. Phil

  14. Glad your back mate , Do like the crane . Got my darj Garrett back from roundhouse after repair, not tried it yet. Ive 2 big trees shedding leaves at mo in my front garden, and other plants that require trimming including the next door neighbours forest that overhangs my fence line. phil

  18. Hi mike I found that track plans need to be fluid in the building stage. I had to alter mine more than once before I finished ,and even now looking at adding another siding for storage purposes .phil
  19. You could rebuild your FA unit into something else? I use this but not cement . This tends to over here encourage moss growth ,which interferes with the running of the locos and stock . Pleased that Irma passed you by . Its sad that lives are lost and people have to rebuild from scratch after the storms have passed, because they have lost everything Phil

I was working in Horsham in 1987 living in a touring caravan on a caravan site when that storm hit .lucky to have survived to be honest .some caravans were blown to pieces ,whole stands of trees were blown down .And all we could do was sit it out till it blew over. The damage it did was unbelievable. phil
