  1. Bob I meant to ask you have you tested this loco? as in steamed her? phil
  2. you could put a coal tender with the loco this would justify the open back . But the main reason is easy access to the gas jet for changing. If you plate over you could have to remove the body to gain access,.these gas jets seem to block up at the most inconvenient times I always carry a spare phil
  3. all of my stock that I build I fit a compensated chassis which really helps on uneven track. All the axles are sprung I Copied it from a wagon id seen ' DSCF0856 by phil, on Flickr DSCF0859 by phil, on Flickr I used to buy the axle boxes [cast] from an 0 gauge supplier but cant seem to find him now so I'm now going to have to make them myself, the frames are 10mm brass angle they are very flexible for wheel base and can be made for 45mm or 32mm easily . bolt them to the underside of your wagon and remove easily if they require any maintenance. I have a set of wagons that are made for 32mm that I take on tour on open days of 32mm lines saves having to make them all adjustable .Ive bought some of the accucraft wagons but I don't fancy changing their wheels over ,I don't think that the screw holes could take it IMG_0822 by phil, on Flickr accucraft on left the van on right was designed by a mate dave wilding IMG_0527 4 by phil, on Flickr IMG_0526 3 by phil, on Flickr a quick way of changing wheelsets over IMG_0524 1 by phil, on Flickr IMG_0525 2 by phil, on Flickr The body was cnc cut from hardboard ,all the brass bits running boards and paint I did phil
  4. bob just be careful to not disturb the motion you could disturb the valve timing although not hard to re time can be a bit of a chore sometimes http://roundhouse-eng.com/pdf/wvg.pdf this gives a description of the timing etc leave the motion loose and sloppy it works better that way . phil
  5. hi bob bottom left corner might be on a sticker IMG_0821 by phil, on Flickr
  6. https://youtu.be/fsPLBdT2BHc testing the track with the Liverpool mob in attendance phil
  7. bob That looks like a very well looked after example . ITs pretty well standard from what I see If on the makers plate it says 2009 then it is a special edition 1 of 100 last to be made .the earlier production run ended in 1998 phil
  8. Im lucky that I have a workshop in the house but I can never keep it tidy enough .The mini lathe and milling head come in really handy in this gauge ,as you can see in the pic .But there is never enough room to store it all . The garage is even worse , that holds all my wood cutting machines. Don't like sheds you just cant protect them from the determined miscreant, who thinks its ok to part you from your property. phil IMG_0820 by phil, on Flickr
  9. I used 14mm brass rod drilled and tapped to take the same allan key stud thats on the locos fitted on to axle with the wheel drilled and tapped through with an 8ba steel hex head bolt X2 idris I started to paint with undercoat on the underside to protect against water ingress then left it real coal dust did the rest
  10. come on bob don't keep us in suspense? !!!!! phil
  11. are you going to pile soil against these blocks ? as in disguising the railway and making it fit into the garden? phil.
  12. DSCF0319 by phil, on Flickr DSCF0320 by phil, on Flickr Coal fired DJB conversion edrigg nice little runner
  13. IMG_0825 by phil, on Flickr IMG_0823 by phil, on Flickr IMG_0824 by phil, on Flickr This is my coal tender this rides behind both of my coal fired engines. I made the chassis sprung and gauge adjustable . I like brass so im not going to paint it
  14. excelsior was the worst , The leader had issues but was a better loco. The edrig was a better improvement all round but had burner issues which aftermarket suppliers sorted out Don't forget quality control was also an issue phil
  15. I own this lanny and I would sell the wife before I got rid of this phil
  16. 7109147871_e2823cde64_c.jpg This turned out to be a real "looker", but I found it a terrible loco to run manually, needing almost constant attention, so it was swapped for my 5" loco and driving truck..... Was a poor loco even after the aftermarket improvements it was still poor. I think they sucked a few in with its cheap price , I know for a fact that afew never pursued the hobby after owning one of these phil
  17. You've not sold swmbo ??? congrats on the steam loco and yes lets see some piccies phil
  18. Its when the steam starts rising, with no off switch I worry swmbo might hurt herself
  19. Nah there is not a lot of room in there everything is tight [The bunker}. The sub c cells are because there are twin motors and AA cells are not recommended with 2 motors + bigger capacity on sub cs There is a mac 5 controller a radio receiver and a thermal cut out packed in there with the 8 sub c s I could always undulate the track to justify running it phil
  20. Hi bob yep its heavy its a roundhouse Darjeeling ndm6 .Not run it yet set for 32mm gauge, too lazy to alter it http://search.aol.co.uk/aol/image?q=darjeeling+ndm6&s_it=img-ans&imgId=B30C45ED3BB57F54D0D6937089932EFD16DB55BC&s_chn=hp&v_t=aoluk-homePage50.a phil
  21. This loco is the Bachmann spectrum shay . I ve removed the pickups fitted 8 sub c cells , a mac5 controller http://www.brianjonesmodels.co.uk/ and radio control. She runs for about 6 hrs on a full charge. The only thing is the bogies have plastic gears and require stripping and greasing often and I don't relish having to replace them . phil
  22. This is where you get swmbo involved ,mine mixes mortar hod carries and keeps me supplied with tea
