  1. Count me on for two with central doors and split boxes as per D11 to D15
  2. Can anyone tell me when the station buildings and platforms at St. Boswell’s were actually demolished, please? Were they still there in April 1978 or did I dream it?
  3. Thanks for the responses, greatly appreciated. Since first posting I've gradually built up a decent short rake of these wagons over the last 10 weeks, all sourced from that well known auction site. What has been interesting is that as well as the Hornby version I have been able to buy several of the Bachmann versions and never paid more than £11.49 including postage for them and yet several sellers have had their Bachmann versions advertised at anything between £20 and a whopping £37 plus postage for all that time. £37 !!!
  4. I was in the Borders for an A level geography field trip , Easter 1978; we were charged with doing a traffic count in the town. I clearly remember the rail bridge over the A68 road was still there, full of pigeons, and I seem to remember the station platform and buildings were too, minus track, a full 9 years after closure, but is my memory playing tricks? When were the platforms and buildings actually cleared, does anyone know?
  5. No doubt most people on here will have seen the photos of a Class 20 on what was ostensibly the last freight to Langholm (turns out it wasn’t) with a load of enthusiasts riding in the Brake Van, travelling through Canonbie. There was film of it on one of the Waverley Route DVDs. Does anyone know the number of the Class 20 heading that train, please?
  6. GOOD! I hope that we also get another batch of Clans and diesel brake tenders very soon to undercut the people demanding absurd prices of £280 and £65 respectively for them on eBay.
  7. Surely that number 4 on D600’s headcode is not prototypical in typeface? It looks like a European 4 rather than the 4 used on BR headcodes?
  8. Just bought a couple of the Esso tank wagons with the “Dalkeith Oil Test Well” markings on them. I read that the Oil well was opened at Darcy’s Farm near Dalkeith in ‘39 but how long was it open and would many of these wagons have been seen on the Waverley? Would it be a few or a trainload?
  9. Fantastic layout. a slightly off topic question but I didn’t know where else on here to ask; what was the white, humpy-roofed building next to and just west of Kings Cross refuelling point? It must have been close to Battle Bridge Road and features in the background of almost all photos taken in the 60s and 70s of locos on the fuelling point. It no longer exists.
  10. A very brief but very welcome shot of what appears to be D603 can be seen 33 minutes and 12 seconds into the Margaret’ Rutherford Classic film “Murder She Said” , based on the Christie novel The 4.50 from Paddington, from 1961. The film is most enjoyable too!
  11. Indeed. What prompted my thought was that I heard the other day that a good friend of mine had died. When I ordered D604 he was the same age as I am now.
  12. It’s rather sobering to realise that in the 11 years between ordering mine and receiving it today, a fifth of my life has passed by and I probably have half the time left to enjoy it as I thought I would have. nice model, though...
  13. I thought tonight’s programme was fascinating; what a cut throat Business this is becoming! Should we have a clearing house for new models?
  14. I found this programme very interesting and I enjoyed it and was entertained by it far more than the Great Model Railway Challenge. (Can I say that?)
  15. how about a SuperDeltic?
  16. I have received the letter from Kernow too but mine says that the deadline for confirming is DECEMBER 20th, not November 30th. Anyone else got this date in their letter?
  17. Two of the three have been bought. Dear me.....
  18. Somebody asking £52.95 each for three on a certain well known auction site tonight. Almost as bad as the two that sold for over £70 on the same site last month. Wow.
