  1. Out of interest, searching through my 1957 Combined Volume, I found twenty locomotive classes with, then, fifty or more survivors that are yet to be made or announced as RTR models. There are none from the WR, and only one - the U 2-6-0, from the SR. The old LMS offers the Fowler and Stanier 2-6-2Ts, the Johnson 0-6-0T, the Aspinall L&Y 3F 0-6-0, the Mackintosh Caledonian 0-4-4T and 0-6-0T, the Drummond Caledonian 2F 0-6-0, and the Midland 2F 0-6-0. The LNER has the B16 4-6-0 (NER), the K2 2-6-0 (ScR), the J6 (GN), J17 (GE), J26 and J27 (NER), J35 and J37 (ScR), the N5 (ScR) and N15 0-6-2s, and the J69 0-6-0 (GE). Any one would be welcome from Bachmann.
  2. The LNER (and particularly my own interest, the GE section thereof) has been pretty blessed by Hornby over the last few years, so I'm definitely not complaining when others get their turn. That said, I think you're pressing a false argument here - the market may well be saturated with J15s (not to mention D16s and K1s), but that doesn't mean that it's saturated with LNER items. I don't want another J15, D16 or K1, but I'd certainly cough up for a J69 or J17.
  3. You obviously don't understand the concept of a win-win, which, in this case, would involve a good year for the wallet and LNER stuff to buy. And where in Londoner's post is there any suggestion that other companies should be ignored?
  4. Anyone know how long they lasted in BR service?
  5. First impression only - this is an excellent list for steam era Southern, Western and industrial enthusiasts, thin on the ground for the rest of us.
  6. A giraffe car with Chris Grayling instead of the giraffe.
  7. Having released the Maunsell S0 in crimson/cream I shall be very disappointed if they don’t follow it in 2019 with the RC in that livery.
  8. What I expect - a Princess, a Manor, a Q, and a contemporary EMU. What I’d like - a Stanier or Fowler 2-6-2T, a J17, a C2X and an Oerlikon EMU. Bit of a disjoint there.
  9. I obviously don’t know the economic maths, but a Stanier III CK would seem like a sure fire seller to all those who’ve bought the TKs and BSKs in the various liveries. The lack of a Gresley BTK or CK is just as glaring, but unfortunately Hornby shot themselves in the foot with the tumblehome and beading problems on the original releases. As someone willing to overlook these shortcomings (and unwilling to purchase more SKs and BCKs) I’d be happy for them to repeat the errors in the cause of consistency, but I’m sure many others wouldn’t. So whatever they did, half the potential purchasers would be put off.
  10. What traffic were these wagons used for, and where?
  11. Reading through this thread I'm struck by how few of the suggested locos/units seem likely to make the sort of profits that Hornby needs. I don't think this is an accident - I have the feeling that there aren't that many choices that would. I tend to mostly buy locos that suit my chosen place and time (cross-London in the 50s), but that does cover three regions (LMR, SR and ER) in both the steam and early diesel eras. Plus, like most others, I'm occasionally seduced by things I just can't resist (Sir William Stanier, the Met electric, the J70, etc). And yet, a few months ago, when I made a list of all the locos/units I would definitely buy if they became available, I could only come up with about fifteen, and most of those were niche enough to deter any sane manufacturer. Of those locos mentioned in his thread I can see the Princess and the Manor being popular enough, and the Electrostar too if they managed to keep the cost within bounds. But a Saint, another 47, a B16? Isn't it choices like this which have got Hornby into its current mess? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the economics, but it seems to me they need to do something different. Then again, perhaps the promised surprise is just that.
  12. 31, 37, 50, 55... all have reasonable models already. Does anyone really believe there’s a mass market for perfectionism?
  13. Book Depository now has it down for an April 2019 release.
  14. I would just like a little more explanation. Why, for example, have the maroon Portholes and crane suddenly got at least six months further away? They were where most of my spend was going in 2019 - now the money will probably go on sound chips and anything useful that Hornby announces.

And the numbers aren't in a straight line. Hope these are not production samples.
  16. This thread needs a reality check. A modern range from Hornby sounds decidedly oxymoronic.
  17. The Fowler and Stanier 2-6-2Ts have obviously slipped your mind.
  18. I’m not an expert, but the book seems to be an excellent survey of all the brake vans inherited by BR from the Big 4. Recommended.
  19. And the rest of us would be happy to see them go!
  20. Picked up mine today at Alton Models. Gorgeous loco.
  21. Where’s the proof that maroon is more popular than crimson/cream? Personally, I’m still waiting for a crimson/cream inspection saloon.
