  1. As someone who has wavered on whether or not to buy this loco at its' Railroad-plus price, I agree it's pretty damn good. But... while I could just about live with the lack of brake shoes, the dreadful pony truck is enough to put me off what would be an essentially impulse buy. That said, a future Brassmasters detailing kit would probably change my mind.
  2. Wow - who'd have ever thought we'd get 'factories of choice'? ☺️
  3. That's fine if you want Mk1s, but the Hornby versions of those are the only coaches now available at that sort of spec for that sort of price.
  4. I don't know. It seems that Bachmann et al are trapped between rising production costs and what the market will bear - a lose-lose situation. I shall still get the four I've pre-ordered (and probably two more if they come out later in maroon) because they're such a basic element of any BR (ER) set-up. But then I'll be spending less on other, less essential, rolling stock items.
  5. Price (but no date) now showing on Bachmann website - £52.95.
  6. Still waiting for them to announce a crimson/cream version.
  7. Point about the redundant step was also made in the very exhaustive piece on grain hoppers in Rail Express Modeller one or two issues back.
  8. [quote name="phil gollin" post="1923904" timestamp="1434379270 It seems VERY odd that all the low-windowed ones were done in Southern and cream/crimson, but only a very few in BR Southern Region green. . As far as I know, there have been no cream/crimson low-windowed Maunsell coaches.
  9. As far as I can tell, these only seem to be coming, unlike the Colletts, in one livery. And again, I may have missed it, but have they specified Southern or BR(SR) green?
  10. Yeah but look what happens to the world when people take notice of bankers.
  11. Watching Brian Kirby's brilliant work I feel almost glad Bachmann buggered it up. Modelling wins the day!

    Hornby D16/3

According to the latest BRM this should be with us this month!
  13. It would be nice if Hornby could let potential purchasers know what numbers the two BR locos will carry.
  14. I got two of the dreaded emails today. Decided I needed the grain wagons despite the price rise, but could do without the TPO coach with net, which was always a bit of an indulgence. I guess most people on limited incomes will be making the same sort of choices. The guy I spoke to at Hattons said there had been a lot of cancelled pre-orders.
  15. 'Surely this is just business.' Wasn't that the Godfather's excuse?
  16. I have no problem with both Hornby, Bachmann or both producing an original MN, but the timing of Hornby's announcement offers fresh evidence of the sleaziness which seems to characterise the company's dealings with all and sundry.
  17. I love my J15, but... The front of the chimney on my model is absolutely vertical, the rear slopes inward to the smokebox top. It looks wrong to me. Are all models like this (because in fact it's correct) or have I got one with a wonky chimney?
  18. I had a quick look inside the new catalogue in the Waterloo Ian Allan, and have to admit to the usual disappointment. I understand the completist's urge to buy it year on year, but it really is repetitive, unimaginative, and grossly over-priced. Anyone wanting a print list of the 2015 offerings need look no further than this month's Hornby Magazine supplement. Better photos too.
  19. It is out. I saw it in the Ian Allan Waterloo shop on Tuesday.

There are pics on the first page of the Meet the Team thread in the Hornby section.
  21. Received my 47992 yesterday. Seems in full working order - fingers crossed! The numbers are ludicrously over-sized - a scale 14" high - but since I'll be renumbering it anyway... .
  22. I'm rather annoyed that the ex-LMS inspection saloon is being produced in BR maroon first, rather than crimson/cream. We all have to wait sometimes.
  23. Quite cheap for a whole train.
  24. I was considering a rake of the old Grafar suburbans painted brown. Nowhere near accurate, I know, but if it went by fast enough....
