  1. How about some very active military, from a recent trip to Northern Iraq: Chinook departing Erbil Airport, Iraq by Timothy Young, on Flickr Apache Helicopters at Erbil Airport by Timothy Young, on Flickr And the commercial side of the airport: Iraqi Airways 737-800 YI-ASU at Erbil International by Timothy Young, on Flickr
  2. Lovely pic of the Hungarian steamer. Baffling that we are 10 numbers deep into 1xx territory and not had a first gen DMU yet. And still not: 11039 at Toton
  3. Good old coaches: Mark 3 buffet 10401 in NXEA colours by Timothy Young, on Flickr
  4. Yes, it seemed to start off a bit shakey, but moving pretty rapidly now. Lets go 100 then.
  5. And to finish it off: DSB E Class 996 in Peterborough by Timothy Young, on Flickr So... what now, are we going to keep going (forever!) or shall we try something different?
  6. So much yellow: 97301 leads 1Q05 test train by Timothy Young, on Flickr NMT staff coach 977984 by Timothy Young, on Flickr Driving coach 9702 on the tail of a test train by Timothy Young, on Flickr
  7. Ain't she a beauty Mark 1 High Security Brake Guard 94528 by Timothy Young, on Flickr
  8. Okay then, an A4: Dominion of New Zealand awaiting departure by Timothy Young, on Flickr If I am doing this right, something 5-ish is next...
  9. I do like to photograph fire engines when the opportunity arises. A modern German airport example: Düsseldorf Airport fire appliance by Timothy Young, on Flickr A rather older German example! German fire engine at Colditz by Timothy Young, on Flickr Most of the ones I see are at racing events, this is Santa Pod Raceway, Northampton - not sure of the history behind this appliance, I guess it was a regular service engine previously: Santa Pod fire truck on the scene by Timothy Young, on Flickr
  10. V is for Virgin.... 390152 races through the rain to London by Timothy Young, on Flickr Go for X
  11. Because I like sleepers, have some Deutschbahn/DB Schenker action on the Calendonian: 90029 leading the Highland Sleeper through London by Timothy Young, on Flickr E
  12. Already used my pic of the sleeper at Stafford earlier in this thread, so here is one at Wembley but on the mainline. 90039 heading up to Wembley depot on 1M11 by Timothy Young, on Flickr The route of a titled train is interesting, but might limit things a little, I'm really enjoying the intercontinental variation that the alphabet challenges give. How about train operating company names - long and common short versions accepted. So could have Arriva Trains Wales, British Rail etc. and subdivisions like Network SouthEast Starting with an A
  13. Depends, are we counting the current operator, or the originating company? The HST was in East Coast operation, rather than being BR operated. Although I think the Rat under R would eliminate any further BR operated locomotives....
  14. Are casual designations okay? A private owner Ludmilla in Dresden: Ludmilla BR232 crossing the Elbe in Dresden by Timothy Young, on Flickr M next
  15. They were best in the Corgi editions with the amazing covers.
  16. Have you seen the recent Taras Bulba? Excellent battle scenes, although so hilariously pro-Russia/anti-Ukranian it is like a conversation with Putin. I can also recommend Край (2010) - I think in the UK it is called 'The Edge of War' and sold as an action packed war film, but is instead a surreal masterpiece with lots of big Russian steam trains. Oh god! That was the most awful film ever, turned an incredibly grim, graphic book into a light hearted Inglorious (1978) rip off. The books are amazing, although and historical accuracy is purely co-incidental, Sven Hassel's war service record is rather disputed. Have you seen him in Nosferatu (1979), probably the best movie ever made in any genre.
  17. Last one tonight from me - 47749 Demelza 47749 with steel carriers passing Tamworth by Timothy Young, on Flickr Keep it rolling with an E please
  18. 90010 - Bressingham Steam & Gardens 90010 powers 1P28 for Norwich by Timothy Young, on Flickr Okay, C it is...
  19. Wow and all this will be powered by our one remaining power station we have left by this point....
  20. Best war film I have seen in a long time has to be Белый тигр - a 2012 Russian film about Soviet troops battling a mysterious white Tiger tank in the forests of Western Russia in 1943. Surreal and compelling. A Estrada 47 is similarly unusual - a 2013 Brazilian film about the small contingent of Brazilian soldiers who served on the Italian front, but is a wider look at the futility of sacrifice. The best mainstream war film I have seen recently is probably Valkyrie - I am not a Tom Cruise fan, but this film is so excellently historically accurate with a superb cast of British thespians as the Nazi High Command. Of the classics, I do enjoy Battle of the River Plate for again the highly detailed historical flavour and beautiful ships. Outside of WW2, do check out the little seen Vietnam war film 84C MoPic (1989) entirely shot from the point-of-view of a military cameraman accompanying a unit on patrol. Way ahead of its time.
  21. How about 2 hours ago... 37516 passes through Keighley. 37516 runs light through Keighley by Timothy Young, on Flickr Next, how about any photo taken in July, but before 2010.
  22. I've barely got any shots of HSTs not under the wires. 43480 races through Peterborough for Sunderland by Timothy Young, on Flickr How about an HST in original BR Blue, or Intercity liveries (not the recent GWR repaints!)
  23. Perry Barr in Birmingham is the most grim I have used in a while. Wouldn't want to spend time there at night, very reminiscent of the North London Line stations pre-LOL. On the positive side though, it is amazing how the London termini have avoided that terrifying seediness that seems to permeate most of the major European city stations.
  24. Okay, going to get this right this time! A 220 running through the weeds at Doncaster - can we get another shot - anywhere, any time, of a train running (ie. in service) through heavy greenery
  25. Apologies, got my posts mixed up. Thought the post above mine was a duplicate for the three units question.
