  8. Just a few interesting things about this pit site, the early 1980's Edwardian era TV comedy series 'Brass' starring Timothy West as the dastardly Bradley Hardachre was filmed here, some scenes and the opening credits also show the nearby Plank Ln. Bickershaw Colliery at Leigh, and 'Peaky Blinders' a newish TV show i've been told, is also filmed here.
  9. Ossy i like what you set up with those sticks etc. Please PM me for any more help, ideas or encouragement!
  10. I really hope you get an answer off him Ossy 'cos heres another website mate who's gone missing with no word for quite a long while now.
  11. There is a nice pic' of the mess room/toilet block on the 'Tower Models' website. One of these would suit my layout very well....but don't know if i can wait that long though!
  12. 'Betsy' was there Apollo, see the first four pics, i think this is the roller that was originally named after his first wife Alison? His old Landies are always out and about around the local classic shows, one is owned by his youngest Daughter and her Hubby. They'll be at the Heskin Steam rally nr' Chorley in early June on the Series two club stand area.
  13. i believe so but i did'nt see any sign of it yesterday, but then there was so much interesting industrial stuff to look at. i'm sure Freds landies one now owned by one of his Daughters will be back for another do soon i hope.
  14. A few from a show at the local mining museum yesterday. Our old 1987 Bedford Rascal Bambi camper resto' is coming on a treat now with the glorious dry weather helping us progress a lot over the past three weeks.
  15. Shame to say but the old guys are popping off and no one wants to take their places these days, there's a lot of stuff there on site, but far too much for the small amount of volunteers to look after at the moment. I do hope this event brought out more folks to think about volunteering and helping out at the site. The head gear is an iconic structure and can be seen for miles around, the winding engine is one of the biggest ever built. I have an interest in the site as both my Grandfather and Gt. Grandfather and other family members worked at this pit in the last century. I do hope the weekend was a great success. Some last pics' here, sorry if some are repeated but my computer seems to want to post some twice and others not at all!
  16. I just attended this local gathering which was held to raise funds to repair the crumbling pit head gear the last one that is still standing in the Lancashire area and thought i would share the pics' Has anyone got half a million going spare? Its hoped all the monies raised this weekend will help to get more funding to come forward. There's a lot of interesting railway related items which are preserved or under preservation, and the two foot gauge visitors railway is coming on a treat. I'll post more pics later.
  17. I would have done it that way but i made a right cock up Phil' by first painting all the board in a couple of cheap masonary paint sample pots thinking its a nice earthy base colour....but it's bloody water proof innit! and the PVA would'nt flamin' stick!! I should have more fun in sticking the ballast down as well then....Not!!
  18. Every little helps and adds up Ian, so i've made some more cardboard cobbles this week and i also got a handful of dry lumpy garden soil which i crumbled into a bowl, i then picked out all the bigger chunks and bits of brick etc with tweezers, i stuck it down by painting the areas with two old tins of Humbrol dark Grey paint and then sprinkled the dry soil on to it. All the loose stuff was 'Hoovered' up last eve' after it had a full night and day to dry out, the effect is how i wanted it, and it's well stuck down. The natural colour of the soil might not need changing or painting over either.
  19. Well i got the kit put together quite straightforward really with a bit of super-glue. Its primed in White here and i painted it up by hand into its final colours last night, i hope to put the windows in next and show you it almost finished later. I'm a bit stuck on what couplings to use in such a small scale, i have to admit its not easy detailing stuff this small for me as i'm used to bigger stuff, the 3d printed lines have been lost in the final thicker hand painted finish.
