  1. I have done my bit for the continuation of the hobby. Infected my Nephew (9) with the bug some years ago. At the moment I don't think he cares about the finer points of how many rivets there should be on a Dean Goods, but I'm working on him!
  2. Ours haven't emptied household waste bins that contain food or anything recyclable for years. They put a sticker on the offending bins and don't empty them (from observation of other peoples bins, not mine!)
  3. Down among the dead men - John Dyer and Henry Purcell (probably)
  4. I've been exploring a number of paths that I would not normally use due to having to walk nearly a mile on main roads to get to them. With the sharp drop in road traffic, they are now usable without getting flattened.
  5. Miracle of Miracles - Bock and Harnick (Fiddler on the roof again)
  6. To Life - Bock and Harnick (Fiddler on the roof)
  7. Reading the comments below the photo, it is not just railway maniacs who get hot under the collar when the media misidentify things!
  8. The anthracite part of the South Wales Coalfield was at the western end (Kidwelly - Ammanford), which would explain the presence of wagons from Swansea rather than Cardiff.
  9. Must be a bit warmer where you are - mine is still keeping tight hold on her winter coat!
  10. The war of 14-18 - Flanders and Swann
  11. On Again! On Again! - Jake Thackray
  12. Ryde St Johns is 2-3m above sea level, slightly higher than Esplanade.
  13. That silver haired Daddy of mine - Simon and Garfunkel (just to even things up!)
  14. And the inefficient use of wagons (all those PO's laden one way only) meant they could carry a lot more traffic when required.
  15. Gradually get to look like a 60s hippy. Fortunately I bought a new razor (last one broke down) the week before the shutdown began, otherwise I would be supporting 2week stubble by now!
  16. With the continued sinking of London and the south east at about 1-2mm per year, stations like Leigh on Sea that are only about 2m above sea level will be underwater given 1,000 to 2,000 years.......
  17. Good grief, I didn't realise that sea levels had risen so far as to drown Slough!
  18. Love me do - that lot from Liverpool again
  19. I sympathize. I have to try and get my 99 year old mother (heart trouble last year) to agree as well. She is very independently minded and does not like people doing things like shopping for her!
  20. Whilst looking f or something else (info on some shafts at Avoca), I came across this Shropshire caving and mining club magazine for 2008. See the pictures and short note on p23. I have never heard of the Honnington Grange narrow gauge railway apparently used to supply feed to the dairy cattle, until the foot and mouth epidemic of 1967. No idea what the stock was like or when it was built. Anybody any info on it? 2008_1w.pdf
  21. One of our local pubs (the best one for beer) has introduced a take away service from an outside window.
  22. But all the pubs have been closed (at least on this side of the pond)!
