  1. The UK is moving with the times, we are going back to the good old Victorian system, keeping a large impoverished over taxed populace in check by pouring raw sewage into the rivers.....................worked before.
  2. Well there's an "R" in the month so it means I start having the occasional dram of an evening, I usually go to a distillery to buy something not found in the shops, or to a specialist to get something a bit out of the ordinary. As my local Malt distilleries are shut on a Sunday a trip over the hills into deepest darkest Aberdeenshire beckons.
  3. I was told(no idea how true it is) by an Indian workmate back in the 1970's that "curry" basically means gravy, it was invented for the English back in the days of the Raj as the Brits didn't like their dinner without the gravy. He told me they didn't eat curry at home in Leicester. Now when going into an Indian restaurant they have a curry sauce and it is put on the meal you choose, just like gravy in our cuisine.
  4. Round me in the sunny NE of Scotland I've got Arbroath, which smells of smoked fish and has a McDonalds and a KFC, then there's Montrose that has neither............................. I do jest, the Cairngorms National Park is only half an hour away....................
  5. Today see the kick off for the new season in the National leagues, my old club are in National 1 for the first time, they kick off at home to Sale FC the semi pro arm of Sale Sharks, here is the digital program for anyone interested. I cannot post the program due to the restrictions on this site, but it available to read on the Leicester Lions facebook page.
  6. 8 degrees this morning but the suns out, so it might just be a nice day.
  7. Three nights running the RAF are doing some night flying up and down our bit of coast, nice to know they are looking after me......................................
  8. I'm watching my waistline too..........................................................yep it's definitely expanding..........................
  9. Good golly miss molly- Little Richard
  10. Yes it's a "he", the females are brown on the back and quite a lot bigger.
  11. For a few dollars more.................................perfect evening viewing.
  12. Wrong time of year they(there are more than one) are in hiding during Grouse shooting season, they hide in caves with the wild Haggis until the snow comes.
  13. I have a small pension from an oil company, I worked there for 7 years and I've now been retired for over 8.
  14. My go to interview outfit included a shirt and tie(usually reserved for Weddings and Funerals and the odd Christening and boy have I been to some odd ones). I only possessed one tie, my old rugby club one, I reckon at least 6 jobs I had in Leicester were acquired via that tie, more than one interview was solely about the game and no mention of qualifications or experience, the old school tie can work as well apparently, but I couldn't find a shop that sold Eton ties.
  15. I too experienced a bit of that, I was the Plant Maintenance Co-ordinator, so I missed the joys of "competency " as I didn't do any licenced work, something that enraged a lot of skilled people with 40 years or more on the job and felt their abilities were being questioned by box tickers. They did however try to get me to re-sit many courses I had done that were still current, I made sure I declined with the top brass in attendance, so when I questioned the sense in sending me away on very expensive courses when I was on reduced hours winding down to imminent retirement, I was able to enjoy watching said box tickers having the bits they sat on and seemingly spoke out of, getting suitably thrashed.
  16. Dream a little dream of me- Mama Cass Elliot.
  17. I was at war with "Human resources" at a couple of my employments, as a senior shop steward at one and works convenor at another, I witnessed some callous behaviour by some of them. Personnel departments were by and large helpful to their colleagues, a lot of HR were just petty minded bullies, it gave me great pleasure when they got their backsides kicked at industrial tribunals because they hadn't followed procedures(and I was not going to tell them what they'd done wrong beforehand), I even won my own case for unfair dismissal, the look on their faces was almost worth more than the compensation awarded to me.
  18. The wind cries Mary- Jimi Hendrix
  19. It's all over now- The Strolling Bones
  20. I've eaten them, but they don't taste of much, I'm hoping I beat the squirrels to them up here, at least they are Red Squirrels.
