  1. ITrain will set the routes correctly through the turnouts without issue, however it won’t to the wiring for you 😀
  2. You could get away with sharing two addresses if you simply made it two distinct crossovers, rather than two crossovers complicated by a three way turnout. that would spoil the symmetry but be much easier to manage and wire.

  4. Sven van der Hart has some very useful coreless motor settings on his website. I know that they work as I have re-motored several locos using his motors and I only use Zimo decoders and his comprehensive set of CV. Digital (tramfabriek.co.uk) I would recommend that you start with these settings and perhaps modify for your specific loco.

  9. The open frame motors work well with DCC, most of my models have the 3 pole open frame, the better ones have 5 pole motors, but still open frame. A 6 pin decoder is really designed for N Gauge (which is what I suspect that they will say in their blurb), though it would work in smaller 00/H0 models - provided the current draw is low - 6 pin decoders are generally 500mA or less though they will allow a higher stall current. To measure the stall current is easy, but you will need a multimeter (MM) and a DC supply. Switch the MM into current reading (indicated by Amps, or Milliamps and use a higher range e.g 1 A or 10A. Connect the MM to the power supply on one side and the loco on the other, connect the other terminal of the power supply direct to the loco and read the running current. Then gently increase the resistance on the wheels until they stop and read the value - this is the stall current. Look at the decoder specifications and you should see at least two value, a steady current value e.g. 750 mA, and a higher value e.g. 1.5A. The lower value should what you are allowed for normal use and the higher value shows what the decoder should take before it destroys itself. If the test shows you are drawing 450mA then don't get a 500mA decoder as that will almost certainly be running to hot for continued use. get one with some headroom e.g. 750mA or more.
  10. Posted 2 weeks ago elsewhere Hello dear customers, A very frequently asked question by now is how it feels about the YD9401. As mentioned here before, we had to stop production due to production difficulties. All for the purpose of working on a solution to the problem in relative calmness. What we did there is too far to describe here, the fact is that in early December we did a trial with automatic Pick & Place of the ESP32 modules. We had designed new trays for the JUKI ( Pick & Place ) and had 3D printed. Everything looked very hopeful Unfortunately, when the Big Day came, we had a 12-platinum running with YD9401, very few were good... very little is meant here 1x good 2x questionable and 9x bad So, for the analysis. It turned out that the ESP32 we used are not suitable for automatic processing Tolerances are not correct and the underside is not flat. So we again ordered 200 pieces from another manufacturer as a sample. We were able to try them again today And in fact: all 12 are correct . You can see what it all looks like in pictures and video. What to do now? We are going to reorder the right ESP32 now. And then probably can in the 3rd. January week produce about 600 pieces. We will use those who ran the trial run to finish assembling the remaining YD7001-E. Dear greetings, Karst Drenth

It depends on what you want to do whether you will use track routes or trains routes, also depends on whether you have working feedbacks or not. may I suggest that you watch the series of videos that Bob Fuller and I created for iTrain. You will find them all on iTrain - but they should be watched in conjunction with reading the manual, they are not a substitute for the manual. you will also get much better support for iTrain on the iTrain forum than you will get here.

  15. You change the RCN in either the Z21 (best place) or in iTrain but not both.

There is a lot more than just the local internet connection in play - as simple examples there is the bandwidth available at the site where the file is being hosted, and then any QOS restrictions that are placed on uploading of files from their server(s). Finally add on backbone and DSLAM contention that may be in play within the ISP.
  17. Sorry, I missed that query and the answer is I think you can wire one C terminal to one Power District and the other C to the other Power District. Never tried that but in theory it should work because they are two separate reporters an everything on the DR4088xx is powered from Loconet.

Ian It is actually a really simple solution - and one that I use myself 😉 a) create 3 busses b) connect one bus (accessory) directly to the Z21 c) connect one bus to power district A d) connect remaining bus to power district B e) Connect CANbus cable between booster and Z21. f) optionally, but recommended set up booster NOT to forward short circuits to Z21 (uncheck box) g) optional, but recommended set up boosters NOT to use same voltage as Z21 (uncheck box) h) optional, but recommended activate auto-inversion (important for dual boosters, but of wiring is correct should not be required) When wiring turnout motors take the switching power from the accessory bus, and, importantly, take the switching power for the frog from the appropriate power bus (A or B). The reason for having different track and accessory voltage is that most turnout motors will work better on a voltage lower than the track and this allows you to have different voltages. I use 13v for accessory bus and 17v for track bus. It really is that simple, the one 'gotcha' to watch for is accidentally crossing between the power districts which need to be completely separated from each other with full isolation between the two districts. EDT - forgot to say that the Loconet bus goes from and to to the Z21, not the booster.

  21. Not really quirky, it was because the original DCC standard issued was ambiguous on where the address started, and it could be read as bit 0, 1, or 2 and it was cleared up with RCN 213.
  22. Have you adjusted the Z21 to use the RCN-213 as per this image? If you haven't then the turnout numbering is out by 4, this means that when you switch 'one' you are actually switching 'five' ;)

  24. Something elae that you need to consider given the size of your models is the power requirements and how many locos you will be running. Larger scales need a lot more power and you need to ensure that the system you purchase has a reasonable base power provision and also that it supports easy connections to boosters to provide more power if required. I consider that a computer interface is a necessity on a new command station because the complexities of modern decoders, especially with sound decoders, make changing CVs using a hand throttle between awkward and impossible. A budget system may seem attractive, but only if it will actually provide for all your needs now and ongoing.
