Ooh, is that one of the Saltley LNWR 4 wheelers from LRM.  Feeling slightly nostalgic was the first kit I made when returning to modelling a couple of years ago.  My first bit of soldering was to attach the etched springs to the outsides of the horn block / W iron thingies as thought that’s where they always went - didn’t read the instructions or own a book with a photo at that stage.  Then spent ages trying to unsolder everything and wondered whether I shouldn’t take up another hobby.

Don’t forget the chain brake 🙂.  I was a bit confused by the roof as well but came in handy for another build.

The Lady is still sitting in its box whilst I pluck up the courage to make something that actually moves(!). Was definitely going to channel slotted splashers, open cab and green livery to go with these carriages.  I can only but dream…

Hi Mike, the lids with a handle on the roof. Did you make those or did the come with the kit?

You can do it, Just do the frames first. To be honest I thought that it was quite easy to make

That is an incredibly appealing train. You could stop right there and it would still draw attention.

I look forward to seeing the tracks go down. Or rather, being assembled. What components will you be using for track?

Thank you Mikkel That's a nice thing to say. I Will be using code 75 Bull Head Raíl Exactoscale chairs and ply sleepers. I have cheated with the pointwork, I got someone else to do it.

So we can't have advertising and you aren't going to contribute towards the cost of running RMweb. Remind me how it should be paid for then...

Hi, I didn't say no advertising I complained about the pop ups. Im not the only one. Advertising is a great revenue steam and I completely understand that.

  5. Hi Chas, Thank you for your comments here is a photo of the Lady of the Lake without the body. I have used a High Level low loader gearbox which can fold up into various ways. In this case it is folded so that it sits under the motor(if that makes sense) one thing that I did like doing on this engine was to have the vacuum pump rod working

  6. Hi the london road model 6 wheeled brake van is moving forward. I have manage to get the W irons to Actually rock, to achieve this I had to thin down the solé bars and file the springs casting almost down to nothing. If I was to make another one I would spring it rather than have rock ing units.

They definitely have a certain appeal.  Anyway, sense distraction is imminent given my new acquisition.  Have had Lacy & Dow Vol 1 for a while but Vol 2 always seemed to be priced out of my reach - finally tracked down an affordable copy.  Now realise it's almost twice as thick as Vol 1 hence the higher price now makes more sense.  The chapters on MSJS and non passenger stock were the main reasons I was on the lookout for a copy.

It's beginning to have quite an imposing presence which I quite like:

OK, things just plonked on top of each other for effect but sense the clerestory was just plonked on top in real life too....  Really looking forward to a bit of Crimson Lake.

Im Looking forward to one of these
