  1. Hi all, I'm planning to possibly introduce an overseas design (with appropriate modifications, of course) to my BR NER/ER layout, however I am unsure of how and why a design can be found in an overseas railway influences a UK rail operator enough to either build a similar/or identical design for their own railway. Does anyone know how or why this may happen? Thanks to all that contribute.
  2. Where did you buy it from/how did you make it?
  3. Thanks guys, I'm feeling a bit reassured now that I know this, so I guess I need to be more patient next time.
  4. Oh! I posted this long ago and soon forgot all about it! Thanks, but I think this project is long gone by now. Maybe someone else may have a go at it...
  5. And I thought semi modern preservation here in NSW was full of c**p. Seriously just disgraceful with the 311 though, makes me want to snap up the thing and put it in my backyard. (Like that will ever happen! )
  6. Hi all, I'd like to start off by saying I'm a little annoyed that when I ask something or even when I post on one of my own threads I get no replies, just a few views. At first there will be one or two (sometimes not very helpful) replies and in most cases I reply back and get NO reply. This has been ongoing and I've been tempted to post about this several times before. I may just be impatient at times but in a few instances I've had a good response or two within a few days of posting. Ok, rant over. I hope I haven't caused any conflict by posting this, DoubleDeckInterurban
  7. Could I also make a suggestion: In my followed content when I preview the 'first unread post' I only get the first few sentences in the post, but I cannot tell if there are any images attached to the post. Would it be possible in this to have a 'this post has __ image(s) attached' so I know (particularly in workbench threads) whether I should actually open the thread and have a look or if I should just 'Mark as Read'? Thanks!
  8. A failed lengthening experiment that didn't do too much and certainly made it look most ungainly.
  9. For the next design I'm thinking of making a railmotor similar to the Silver City Comet. It will be arranged as it follows: Power Van - Composite Corridor - Second Open. I'm not exactly sure how to style this particular train at the moment so I haven't posted a diagram yet. Any suggestions?
  10. I've seen panelled over windows on converted CIE 2600 class push pull sets, this was what I was originally considering but I've since been reconsidering.
  11. The Derby Lightweight would need rewiring, but assuming this coach would come stripped to some extent and would require a bit of work to restore.
  12. I've refined my list, I'll probably end up doing a centre vehicle from another class, so here's a list of potential options: - Derby Lightweight - Class 101 - Class 104 - Class 105 - Class 107/108 - Class 111?
  13. This sounds interesting, but I cannot access Channel 5 BBC because I don't live in the UK, but I could tell just by being there for a couple of weeks that the shows are HEAPS better than the c**p you get on some Australian channels. Although from some comments I can see there are certain weak areas though.
  14. Hi all, I was reading about Southern Region EMU's when I came across the term 3rd Class. I am aware that the SR used this more than other regions but it got me thinking about when it was used and why. As far as I know Third was more a Pioneering era term when they used open wagons as carriages but after that it gradually declined... Some companies got rid of it sooner than others... Just thought it would be something interesting that I don't think has already been posted.
  15. That's some very inspirational modelling there. Well done sir!
  16. Funny that you mention the C Class being the ideal base for a generic pre grouping design. I came up with a design very much like a C class which I plan to convert from a GBL loco.
  17. I don't know for sure but you may be able to lift the destination blind off by carefully prising it at the bottom with a fine knife/scalpel. The destination is printed on the inside of the 'glass'. Rub this away and you'll be able to print new ones and replace the old blind. This worked for my Class 108 but I'm unsure if it would for a Cravens unit though.
  18. Sounds about right. I'm only starting to gather materials for my next project. It's been 6 months since my last scratchbuilding project. And that was before I even joined RMweb.
  19. These sound like great ideas BUT I have no experience in cutting and shutting and the 117/8 is a WR DMU and would not be suitable for an ER/NER layout. I'm now leaning towards the Thompson conversion now though.
  20. Yep. 10 pages. Not even I have been able to achieve such a high level! And I don't know why...
  21. After some extensive planning I've proposed to scratchbuild a Class 112 DMU. This will be in lined BR green with small yellow warning panels with the ER style marker lights rather than the LMR style destination box as originally fitted. I've also done some work on the SKBR's history (see post #9).
  22. Dear sir, I believe some kids may have tipped over your hut.
  23. Thanks! Now to find a good style and where to place the things! EDIT: I've chosen to (maybe) do the LNER style ones, NOW TO FIND A GOOD PLACE TO PUT THESE!
  24. Did a quick search and found this: https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/collections/nameplate-styles You can order custom nameplates from this site along with worksplates, numberplates and you can also get them in sets. (See 'Custom Etched Products') Although if you want worksplates from what I've seen they are limited to actual manufacturers. Hope you don't mind but I'm considering ordering a set of nameplates myself and I'm trying to think of a name for my future Class 112 Cravens DMU. Any ideas?
  25. And once the OO model is done part of the work is already done for the N one. When numbers are reached it can be scaled down and reworked as per needed.
