  2. That was at one of the Wyxombe shows. There was quite a stink about it as it was diverted on approach to Heathrow on a commercial flight (passengers on board). It was pretty high though. Dave
  3. Did you see one of the early Concorde prototypes make a touch and go pass at the Wycombe air show? For those that won't know, Wycombe Air Park is a small (grass) airfield. Dave
  4. I managed to loose one of my aids when removing my face covering (outside, in the dark). It cost me £105 to replace it. I now don't wear them outside the house. Dave
  5. I have a couple of friends from the Vendee (western France), who both used to teach English. When they occasionally went to Paris (Paul did some examination work there I think) they would pretend to be English because the Parisians would have treated them worse if they knew they were provincial French.
  6. I do, and it doesn't half annoy my wife and daughter. Dave
  7. Seeing the mention of the British Legion reminded me of something that made me smile. In the 1970's I was doing fire resistance testing and we had a customer up from south Wales. He had applied to join the British Legion, and claimed to be the only German paratrooper in the Legion, as when they asked if had been in the armed forces, they didn't ask which side. Dave
  8. The "er" probably went the same way as the "ed" in boxed set. Dave
  9. I was on that train, and was disappointed that a southern loco had been used. Would much have preferred something more appropriate. Dave
  10. In 1981 I went on a trip to China. In the party were a couple, and one of them worked for the Sunday Times. I was handed a camera, to take a picture of them, and it was subsequently used, without attribution, in an article in the Sunday Times Magazine. I spoke to the librarian at work about this, as someone who should know about copyright, and she told me it wouldn't be worth following up. I was mildly annoyed about it. Dave

    Panic buying

I went looking for bread flour in my local Morrisons today. Only two bags of flour (of any sort), but it was bread flour. They were 16kg bags, at £9 each. I'm OK for a while. Dave
  12. It arrived this morning. Dave
  13. Well, if you check the MRJ 278 thread 2mmMark has received his copy, so it looks hopeful. Dave
  14. You got a paper copy of Voie Libre? All I've had is an Email from LRPresse with a link to an online copy - I prefer paper. On the MRJ front, I picked up my copy, as usual, at a local "corner shop". It always amazes me that they stock it. Dave
  15. Well, now I know. I received an Email from the publisher of Voie Libre giving a link to an online version (free as a subscriber) so it looks as if the English version is unlikely to be published soon, if at all. Dave

    Panic buying

Copper nails work, but they can take some time (3 or 4 years) Dave
  17. well, I needn't have panicked. It arrived this morning, taking 20 days from posting instead of the normal 4 or 5. The "Angleterre" at the bottom of the address had been crossed out and GB had been written in, so maybe it had been on a tour of other countries? Dave
  18. Thanks for those replies, I suppose I shall have to be patient. I wonder if It will be the same in a month with Voie Libre? Dave
  19. I womder if I may ask a question of our correspondents in France. What is the position regarding magazines out there? I am particularly interested in Cles pour le train miniature. I expected to get my subscription copy around the middle of March, but no sign of it yet. Are magazines publishing? Thanks in advance Dave
  20. Some good news at least. I've just spoken to her and she is booked on the tonight's ferry from Caen, so she will be back a day early Dave
  21. The leader of the opposition is in France, and her return ferry on Thursday night has been cancelled. She has just sent me a text saying more sailings are cancelled, so I don't know at this stage when I will see her again. I can't seem to get through on the phone at the moment either. I want her back. Dave

    Panic buying

My local Morrisons had (this morning) tins of tomatoes at 4 for £1 Dave
  23. Thanks for that. I have sent it on to her. She is booked on the overnight ferry from St Malo on Thursday night, so I'm hoping there will be no problems with the 2.5 hour drive. Dave
  24. I've just been talking to Mrs. Dave who is in France at the moment. She didn't know about the closures till I told her, apparently she saw nothing about it on French television. She was planning on eating lunch in a restaurant, fortunately she has enough food in. I didn't tell her about not being supposed to go out because of her age, there was nothing about that on the BBC page I saw. Dave
  25. Hazlemere is the correct spelling for the place near High Wycombe. Dave
