With regards to the comments above about sampling. The process of sampling has procedures to be complied with regarding safety, both the person doing the sampling and others who may be affected. I did a course on this about fifteen years ago. The samples mentioned above were from my son's house, and I had to seal doors, and tidy up the area after cutting the samples. Not a simple procedure. No asbestos found. The ceilings had been textured with material made after the manufacturer stopped using asbestos.

Samples for testing should ideally be properly (double) bagged for submission to an approved centre. I submitted some Artex ceiling samples for testing about ten years ago, and my fading memory remembers the cost as about twenty five quid per sample then, but I may be misremembering. Dave

Just to be clear, I was stopped at the give way line, and the lane to my right was clear, meaning that I should be able to pull out with no problems. At that stage the (I assume) police car appeared with blue lights, but no siren until it was passing in front of me. Visibility to the left was not brilliant, and had I been a couple of seconds earlier I would have started pulling out and seen the vehicle approaching the wrong way in my lane and stopped. However, because of its speed I doubt that it could have stopped in time. Dave

I left home earlier this evening, and at the crossroads at the end (I had to give way) the traffic to the right was stopped because of temporary lights. I was looking right as I approached to turn left, and as I reached the give way line a brown car appeared from the left and on the wrong side of the road at high speed with blue lights flashing. The siren started as it flashed across in front of me, if I had been a couple of seconds earlied the car would have hit me. I suppose I would have been judged at fault if there had been a collision. When I moved into my present house (1980) the previous owners had demolished a chimney, down to below the roof line. The gas fire in the downstairs room would have vented into the (very poorly insulated) loft space if they hadn't blocked the flue with rubble. As they were paranoid about draughts and had used masking tape to seal all the windows, the wife apparently used to complain of headaches. I think she was rather lucky not to have suffered serious consequences. Dave

A friend of mine who was a car mechanic did have a steel plated flat cap. It was much more convenient than a helmet when working under a car. He referred to it as a bump hat. Dave

I just use the default format that Firefox (and I assume othrer browsers) use. As I said above, this gives an HTML file together with a folder which the HTML file uses to load the images. Just double click on the HTML and the page displays. I can't remember but I assume the images are in the associated folder in .jpg or other suitable format. Dave

With regard to comments on page 43 regarding personal copies of threads, I have, in the past, copied each page by using "save pages as" from the drop down menu (Firefox). A suitable file name should be chosen, with the page number, and this will save the HTML code for each page together with a folder(of the same name) with all the ancilliary files. By opening the HTML file (offline) the page will load with Photos. I did have one problem (still have it). I saved the Silhouette thread, and the first batch of pages saved Feb 2017 suffer from threequarters of the page being blank, but those saved Oct 2017 are OK. Dave
