  1. Well no.... but thanks for that!... but hey - look at that front end of the footplate.. are they *all* like that? Wonky..and bent? Is the problem here with the Hornby 72XX model just the same as the problem the original poster flagged with the 52XX?
  2. Well sure... R3127 and R3226 are the only ones pictured with a raised (curved) footplate but a search of Hattons and ebay ..to take a look at the actual model draws a blank. None available. And no info on the 2013 tooling info from Hattons concerning the footplate variations either 😀
  3. I want to model one of the preserved 72XX class. One with a raised (curved) footplate over larger cylinders. Which basic Hornby "R" (or any other manufacturer) should I start with? Thanks
  4. The footplates are all raised on the Hornby box picture.. but are they raised on any of the actual models?/!!!!
  5. Right... so I quote direct from this.. only 7219–39 has straight footplates! So where are all the Hornby versions of all.. or any?.. of the others?! DId they not do them because of the issues the original poster illustrated on the modelling of the later modified 5205's???
  6. As far as I understand the later 72XX's were developed from the 5205 class (5255-5274) 25 were converted to the 7200 Class from the 5205's... in 1934/6. But these later 5205's would have been rebuilt with raised footplates (earlier)..like 5239 posted about here... (before conversion to 7200's...) Of course 5239 wasn;t converted to a 72XX... but my point is later 5205's would have been ... and they would have had raised footplates... And all the 3 remaining 72XX class locomotives (that are preserved) have raised footplates... correct?
  7. @gwrrob sure this looks great! But it's not a locomotive with a raised footplate> ? 😀
  8. ^ Because @Miss Prism all the actual 72XX Hornby models I can find (even though some are depicted on the box with the raised foot plate) ..the actual (physical) model doesn't have a raised footplate!
  9. Ok Sorry @Miss Prism - I didn't know that the extra trailing wheels defined a "Large Prairie".. Comments still stand.. Why was the Hornby 52XX model R3224 such a debacle? And the 72XX Hornby (for that matter).. which *is* a large prairie then.. and which doesn't even bother with the raised footplate?
  10. This is a fantastic thread and I am revisiting it as I take a look at the history of the currently preserved Large Prairie "Goliath" 5239. The current locomotive exists in it's later "raised" footplate state. But painted in it;'s earlier GWR livery (when it may well have still had it's unmodified "flat" footplate?) As for the model R3224 (which is now 10 years old) it is clearly as the OP'er stated been "modified" from some other Hornby tooled model (which one??) with a raised plate - and the 42XX "body" placed and "squashed to fit" in an attempt to make the resultant model of 5239 look "correct" - and the thing it it's obviously a bend being done as it's being put together (rather than a proper retool).. It frankly looks crap.. and "fake"..yet the picture on the box doesn't! Talk about deception! So have Hornby retooled this? or fixed the problem? What about the Hornby 72XX model tooling?.. is that a proper depiction of the raised footplate? Sam at Sams trains says this tooling is "plasticy".. and the model not worth the money.. so what to do to model a proper "raised footplate" Large Prairie"? Is ony other model manufacturer modelling these Large Prairies properly?! Thanks!
  11. Anyone got one?! Title asks it all ! thanks!!!!
  12. Ok so the Bachmann new releases are out - NO upgraded 4mt tanks! 😪
  13. Ok based on the above help (and thanks so much to everyone) I have shelved the idea of buying a new or near knew "working" Bachmann 4MT and am going to vote with my feet and sit it out and wait.. If Bachman won't update it?.. Not my problem! Meanwhile I've ordered a realistic weathered one as a scrapyard loco (at the end of the day it's all the model is useful for!!) from Halden Yard for 25 quid... Cheers W
  14. Are there any alternative model makers who have recently released a model of the BR Standard 4MT tank? Thanks
  15. ^Agree. Totally. Meanwhile I'd like to play a bit with the Bachmann we have.... can someone answer my question?!
  16. Can someone answer my question?! Is the entire production run since 2001 swappable? Body's with Chassis? thanks!
  17. So there were minor developments where there? after the released 2001 tooling?... I know they added an 8pin DCC socket in 2005.. So Can the bodies be swapped on/off earlier/ later chassis? Say a 2005/6+ body be put on a 2001 chassis? And visa versa ...thanks
  18. ^ entirely why this model should be upgraded.. give me a break!
  19. Exactly! I'm not saying back in the early 2000, it wasn't awesome..and still is.. but Come on boys and girls.. this model is decades old.. decades... We don't necessarily want more detail.. just a more modern modelling experience.. how easy would it be to bring it up to 2020 standards? Just make a body that is easier to remove and fit and add a newer decoder and speakers...
  20. Well sure - don't really care what decoder... but come on Bachmann!!! I mean yr opposition is selling really good tenderless locomotives pre fitted with speakers, easy access to fitting a chip, 5 pole motors, and you expect us (having ripped apart ...literally the body off the chassis, destroying everything in it;s wake) to hardwire something onto a CAM motor?! Even the 2005 8 pin version is a shocker to get in there... This is insane.. this tooling is 20 years old!!!... There are dozens of (actual real) existing 4MT tanks out there.. I don't get it!
  21. This model seems a bit long in the tooth? Or have I missed something?.. that the all wheeled pick up, sound fitted (or speakers available in it already) with the 21 pin DCC or Next18 DCC chip with a five pole motor is already out?? Any clues how long it will be, before this icon Bachmann is likely for another refresh? Cheers
  22. Hornby: "Please be advised that after extensive research and testing, the use of DC Analogue controllers is NOT recommended for use with any HM7000-TXS decoders in Bluetooth®️ Mode." I mean come on! They announced DC controllers could be used (now they can't?) Hornby can't even get that right! So what chance the dongle with be useful and tested properly?!
  23. ^ Fascinating. I had no idea there was such interest in upgrading Black5 models. 😀 Is there social media group or some other link where this is discussed in more detail? Is there a secondary market for these out there? Cheers. W
