  1. ^Thanks for that! This is such an awesome hobby. Whether you run models or the real thing! Praise be to Mr Riley for keeping these fantastic steam engines "alive"! He needs to be knighted! (Just like Sir Pegler)
  2. BTW I assume the new Hornby release of Glasgow Highlander is fairly close to what is running up there in Scotland right now? But they are selling it as Era 5. So how close (in terms of possible Black5 variations mentioned on previous posts) is the new R30226 Glasgow Highlander to it's original as 45407? Is the model as Highlander was "in Era 5", or as it is now (Era 11)? Have there been any significant changes to the actual locomotive (in the passing decades)? ...similar to the way other private owners bastardised Scotsman over the years... just curious and Thanks!
  3. Fascinating stuff! Thanks so much for posting this intriguing recent history. Boys with their toys just renumbering the real things (just like us modellers! ) This is hilarious. So do I get the new tooled Highlander and simply renumber it back to an original 45407? (Fox transfers has the correct name plate) Maybe I just swap on/off the name, smoke box and cabplates, to suit the era I am modelling at the time (just like Mr Riley!) 😂
  4. They did a very good job with all the variations on the Scotsman 100 yr releases. Sure the Black5 has even more variations! (I get it!)
  5. ^Thanks for all this. The Soundtraxx Blunami for large locos looks the go as long as it is compatible with 34pin L inferace which I assume this model uses? I highly doubt they have a Black5 recording though? Anyway. The world will move towards bluetooth now Hornby has joined Sountraxx..and like I say this has major benefits for large scale models as many of us don't have the room for O scale inside so like to run them outside or on a suitable club layout. Bluetooth control really suits O scale.... Just MO
  6. Has anybody fitted the new Hornby bluetooth DCC chip, speaker and stay alive in their new tooled J36? Any problems? Will it all fit in the tender? thanks!
  7. I would like to buy one of these for my O gauge garden layout. The Hornby Bluetooth DCC chips will be a game changer for my layout as no more DCC problems outside..the locos can be controlled via bluetooth with the track still DC powered. So my questions are 1/ Will the Hornby DCC HM7000 Bluetooth chips be power matched OK with this loco's electronics (If I order the DC only version) 2/ Does the DC only version still come supplied with a speaker prefitted fitted in the loco? (the Hornby HM7000's are tinny and crap) 3/ Where is the DCC plate located? in the tender or the locomotive 4/ Is the DCC plate easy to get at? 5/ What wheels have power pickups? Just the loco or tender as well? Thanks!
  8. Who actually owns 45407? And how are these "leasing" arrangements organised? thanks
  9. "45407 often changes identity when working The Jacobite. They like the engines to be named with Scottish names for the tourists." LOL that's hilarious! and fascinating.. So they cheat? It's really 45407 (in disguise) but they rebadge it the "Glasgow Highlander" (which was actually scrapped years ago) ? Including slapping on the different cab and smoke box numbers! Is that what you are saying? As a modeller who likes to stick to genuinely preserved locomotives - Maybe I could do the "reverse"?!
  10. Has one of the 18 "as preserved" actual Black5's been announced in this Hornby retooling yet? Thanks
  11. So is R3227 (824) the closest in model form you can get to 828 ("As preserved"?) How easy is it to renumber on this green livery? Are any other modifications required of this model to get to as close to the preserved Harry A Firth? Are they making any livery or other changes to the real loco during the current overhaul? Thanks!
  12. Are there any "as preserved" (out of the box) Hornby S15's released yet? Thanks!
  13. No. Just fed up with buying models (Hornby) with light bleed that's all - so I can assume this Bachmann will not be a problem? Thanks!
  14. Has Hornby guaranteed these new to be released Mk4's and Mk4 DVTs will be free of the light bleed problems that plague the IC Swallow Mk3 DVT's, the LNER Azuma and the new IC Swallow Mk3 R4000X series of coaches (with aftermarket LED fittings)? Anybody know inside Hornby to give me a heads up? I am reluctant to order any of these given Hornby's QC on the above other models until I know for sure...> partic in the light shaded liveries like LNER... thanks!
  15. Well you've all been warned now! One thing is 4 sure if Hornby continues to use the same shitey plastic in their light coloured livery models, like the IC Swallow Mk3 DVT, the LNER Azuma and now these coaches, there are going to be some very peaved customers! And a lot of returned models! What happens when they all buy their new "tooled" IC Mk3s and go to fit the upcoming Hornby LED kits? And what about all the upcoming LNER Mk4's (and DVTs)? ! IMO!!!
  16. I'd love one of these!...So versatile and such an awesome livery! ok so obviously this loco pulled freight most of the time, but there are vids of this on Youtube and a few other 90's in DB livery swung in to replace 91's for the VTEC line.. So when they did that, were they still pulling Mk4 carriages and a Mk4 DVT? Were they used for any other passenger services? (at this partic time in this livery)? thanks!
  17. Hi everyone I have fitted LED light strips (warm) to 2 new Hornby IC Swallow Mk3 coaches R40002 and R40004 The light bleed is pretty bad thru the bottom IC beige colour.. the rest of the livery (dark grey around and above windows etc) looks fine. Same for the outside livery strips- they are fine) Of course this is not a Hornby quality control "problem" (unlike the new Mk3 DVT) as I have modded the coach adding lights But as a solution, what paint/colour do you all recommend, I paint on the lower inside of the coach body? To stop the bleed? Gloss enamel black? Acrylic matt black? or should I try a matt acrylic in a colour similar to the outside IC livery (it's just the lower lighter cream/beige colour where the bleed thru is a problem) Thanks!
  18. Can anybody who owns this version of the Intercity Mk3 DVT tell me if this model has the same light bleed problem at the front of the cab compared the shocking new released R4996 (It's terrible!) Thanks!
  19. Sure that's what I thought - thanks so much its was a fascinating era.....
  20. What loco would have run with the Intercity Swallow DBSO? And on what lines? Just an 86? Would an 87 of worked with it? or anything else? Also when/ what period? Thanks!
  21. Hi there Can the standard Bachmann 21 pin DCC be programmed using the ESU Lokprogrammer USB interface and software? Thanks!
  22. Ok so looked thru many rigs on flic.kr.. looks like IC Swallow started to appear as repaints on the Class 87's in 1993? MK3 DVTS started to appear around same time.? bit before?... (in same livery) Some Class 87's continued to pull Mk2f's.. but as 93-94 rolled on BR wanted to move to better all MK3 carriage rigs... That about it?
