  1. A frock coat would be good, although an RN Greatcoat isn't so ridiculously far off; It does at least have almost the right silhouette which is what matters for my purposes. And it's warm. Very warm.
  2. Thank you, again! And yes, hats are wonderful. I must confess that these days I scarcely ever leave the building without one on, be it that one, a flat cap, one of my uniform caps for railway duties or (on extremely limited occasions) that RAF side-cap. I Definitely need some evening tails... Or maybe morning (not mourning) dress might be better... I have a cheap topper on order for the next photoshoot although it's unfortunately a bit modern in style, I think. The monument is Aberystwyth's war memorial, though I'm imagining that you knew that. Another thing we tried was the "Ghost of Long Exposure" thing, with limited success;
  3. Very, Very nice! I really ought to sort myself out with a decent suit. For a Halloween-based photoshoot with a friend I went with my standard 1940s-esque get-up. And then it all got a bit more November 11th than October 31st - I didn't 'alf get some funny looks y'know! Tonight we're going to try again, but this time it involves a cape...
  4. Nothing so fancy as that; I definitely didn't use make up! All I did was adjust brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows etc in my mobile's basic photo editor; Not much more than a skilled person could achieve in a darkroom I should think. No full scale manipulation or anything like that!
  5. I should add that I am extremely happy to be able to live in Wales!
  6. I just got some strange looks singing that quietly as I was walking home from a seminar that had been cancelled... I also added to it... Travel, by bus or rail Save for all but the worst case Restaurants too, not to forget Any pubs or bars or clubs Banned in Wales Banned in Wales These have all been banned in Wales (Banned in Wales) These have all been banned in Wales
  7. Interesting theory... For my own part it's just been that my social circle has never been substantial enough to see me attend events with mass drinking.
  8. Well you'll be heartened to know that on Thursday night, the last full night before lockdown, the streets of Aberystwyth were filled with p*ssed students, all nicely spreading the plague before going home to incubate it for a fortnight... Thankfully the lockdown is 17 days rather than 14 so most of them should develop symptoms before it ends. So encouraging to see such drunkenness remaining a tradition. On a lighter note it did see an interesting form of Eveningsong; I heard at least three Welsh Hymns...
  9. You're the third person to say that today! I never thought of myself as a Graham Moffatt lookalike, but it seems there must be something in that...
  10. I did genuinely consider weathering it for the purpose! Other inaccuracies include either an out of date rulebook or an out of date 'phone; The rulebook is correct up to 1961 and the 'phone is a GPO 746 introduced in 1967, although it looks similar to the 706 of 1958.
  11. This has all been occurring to me since I took it... As I say I was going for something relating to espionage (Hence why everything else in the shot is British) but you're quite right. Currently seeing if I can go for "BR Goods Office". And in B&W; If anyone can suggest how they fit the theme of "Home"...
  12. I think the last is the least likely to be entered; I liked the idea of a narrative there but as you say it's unnecessarily controversial. It's hard to tell which sometimes, but I'd venture "museum" rather than "past" as my views on various things are perhaps rather more modern than the prevailing ones during the periods represented (Although the one with the P isn't meant to be a period shot). As I said, though, I think the real answer is that I own an awful lot of tat! Oh, and both cameras shown in the photos have film in them. Not sure how easy it is to get 9.5mm Cine developed these days, mind... Let alone buy new film. The sealed film is marked "Not to be developed later than Jan 31 1930" so probably best not to un-seal it. It may be usable, but there's something nice about something that has survived so many years unopened.
  13. I had thought of that, but nobody would get it! It's also home for me; I have far too much useless old tat that nobody modern and sensible would care about.
  14. I took a few more last night; The university photographic society is running a competition with the theme of "Home". With each shot I think I get further from that theme... I suppose they might count if one can claim "Home Front" to be valid. Need to decide which one to enter. I'm not sure about this last one. I like to think there's a story behind it, but despite a sort of general impression of espionage I'm not sure what that is. Besides, in a university environment I expect even possessing anything with that symbol on it is enough to get me publicly shamed. At any rate it's not exactly relevant to the theme. As it happens, the symbol shown is on the cover of the 1978 edition of Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
  15. Could be worse... Could be Wales. Actually, I say that, but we've had some cracking sunsets recently, although I did adjust the photo somewhat;
  16. I wasn't trying to stir anything, just being a bit silly; I agree with you entirely!
  17. Despite my penchant for railway uniforms I can't see me ever being willing to attempt to replicate that one! Which reminds me of something I meant to show Kevin and intend to at least represent in my uniform; Pre-preservation shot of, according to a reader of this thread, the only TR employee to ever have a uniform. I'm not ridiculously far off with my basic uniform (The coat and cape are a bit much, perhaps...) But need to work on the cap.
  18. In what sense?! As someone just pointed out to me my being banned from Wales means I'd have to return to England, which is surely worse for you chaps?!
