  1. Go Ahead! Personally, I'm pleased with how the Westinghouse pumps came out! To give a bit of context to those liveries, as they're not all for the same project! The LSWR ones, and most of the SR and BR ones are for my 'South Dorset Narrow Gauge Railways' project, proposing a large network of narrow gauge lines, run intially by a series of independent companies (The Swanage Tramway, Lulworth & Purbeck Light Rly, Weymouth & South Dorset Rly and the Mid Dorset Light Rly) which were, over time absorbed into the local mainline companies, much as the Cambrian absorbed the VOR and W&LLR, and the NSR the L&MVLR. The first three companies listed ended up with the LSWR, the last with the GWR. Over time, the companies began to stamp their own identities onto their stock. The lines reached their peak immediately after WW1, before slowly declining. Stock was cascaded from the Lynton & Barnstaple in 1936, but the Second World War finished off most of the remaining network, as the core of the system ran straight across land requistioned by the WD that these days is known as Lulworth Ranges. The L&PLR and W&SDR sections were severed from the Swanage Tramway section, and were officially closed within weeks of the WD requistioning the land. Much of the track remained in place, however, and some of it now forms part of the target railway used by the MOD on the Lulworth Tank Range. The Tramway section passed to BR, and remained profitable in its reduced state, running from Studland in the East, through Swanage Town, with a branch to the LSWR Mainline Station, out to Peveril Point in the West, before heading along the coast to its former connection to the L&PLR at Kimmeridge, where passenger services now terminate. The line was 'privatised' before the VOR in the late 1970's, being taken over breifly by the Town Council before a heritage organisation stepped in. Now, the LBSCR locos form part of the Downland Light Railway, stretching from the River Adur, near Beeding, in the East, up through Lancing, Broadwater and Findon, before skirting the foot of the downs and heading North through West Chiltington and Storrington to the River Arun at Pulborough, linking two rivers and two LBSCR Lines. I've yet to work out a full history for this... but I know it will involve Stroudley Improved Engine Green!
  2. I had a play with a few Hornby catalogue images in MS paint: apologies if anything similar has already been posted! First up, a GWR Collett Bow-Ended Overhead EMU, articulated (Because, why not?!) and shown in BR Days wearing Crimson and Cream for reasons unknown, given it should really be MU green. Inspired by discussions over the GWR's plans for electrification, Another idea, based on their close neighbour's example, and to allow inter-regional services to be run more efficiently, Collett's take on the Southern's 2-BIL unit, suitably enhanced to provide decent competition to their rivals. Again, it seems this unit is anachronistically painted in Crimson and Cream. Trust the Western to do something odd...( ) Continuing the EMU theme, we have a single coach Passenger unit, modified from half of a 2-Hal set of which the other half had been partially destroyed in an accident in the 1950's. The cab end from the DM(or is it T?)S was rebuilt onto the rear of the DMBS. Following this rebuild it found use on the Horsted Keynes - Haywards Heath branch where service was limited. It is seen here right at the end of its life. Following the closure of the branch, the unit bounced around the network a bit before being claimed for deicing duties and departmental use. It was withdrawn in 1984, and can currently be found mouldering away under a tarpaulin right up the end of the Ardingly Spur on the Bluebell. When the line is restored to Haywards Heath, there may be plans to electrify it and this unique vehicle will once again form a shuttle between Haywards Heath and Horsted Keynes. Bulleid's refined, light and mechanically stoked ( ) leader... 'nuff said really... Finally, a Sentinel Industrial Master and Slave unit. May have been of use to LT, where their 6wDH sentinels had issues with track circuits due to their short wheelbase. I think I'll leave it at that... or not... there's more horrors to come! I can't think how to describe these... Maunsell Push-Pull trailer, combined with an Adams Radial (Looking more like a Beattie Well Tank), and a Drummond Boiler. If it was in Bulleid Malachite we'd have a bit of each of the LSWR CME's except Urie. Lettered up for a fictional route heading South from Barnham towards Selsey (LBSCR Station). Don't ask... that said, I'm quite pleased with them...
  3. I thought the Thomas TTE range 'Edward' was an LNER D49 'Hunt' with its cylinders nicked, with a face and taller chimney added. If so, it would share its chassis with the D49, Compound, County (4-4-0) and Schools (Railroad version).
  4. Unfortunately any poll on any forum will suffer the problem of limited ciruclation; I've learnt this through organising a series of unofficial wishlist polls on the UKtrainsim forum!
  5. Ah... you'll have to wait until I actually produce some models for it! I have done some MS Paint mock ups of Various in LBSCR, LSWR, SR & BR liveries though to see how they look. The first LBSCR liveried loco will most likely be an O-16.5 0-6-0T. Some of these are reliveries of images on the internet (Hunslet 0-4-0ST, WHHR 'Russell'), others (Like the 0-6-0T and The Pugbash) are my own.
  6. So it's taken me two years to sign up... Actually, two years ago I wasn't modelling pre-grouping, so I think this thread (and this part of the forum, but mostly this thread) is entirely responsible for my descent into madness!
  7. Well, I'm not old enough to remember all diesels being blue, and I model the following: NCB South Wales 1950's - 1970's BR(S) 1950's - 1960's LBSCR 1900 - 1923 LSWR Pre - 1914 SECR 1900 - 1914 (The last three generally share the same layout at the moment!) LSWR Narrow Gauge (Fictional) LBSCR Narrow Gauge (Fictional) BR(S) Narrow Gauge (Also Fictional) So... I can't remember any of that (except the BR(S) Narrow gauge ) Also, other than living within the former territory of the LB&SCR, I have no connection with any of those!
  8. Hi Gary, Nice! I was thinking about using Smallbrook Studio kits (For both the 4mm and 7mm ones I need) for those LBSC wagons. Either that or 3D Print them myself. I've been reading your fantastic thread from the start, when Oak Hill first came into being, but it's only tonight that I finally bothered to sign up! Accurate pre-grouping wilt cometh to thou if thou doth maketh for thineself... the commandment of sod dictates that such matters will be the case!
  9. (Slightly!) Love your take on 751! Not to do with paint matching, but just wanted to say how much I like it!
  10. Hmm... As others have commented, the photo of the wagon appears to be a montage of a photo (for the body of the wagon) and a C.G. Image for the chassis, which looks significantly better than previous examples. You can be certain that it will only resemble an SECR wagon in only vague shape, size, colour and insignia. The details will probably be nothing like any SECR (Ashford for wagons?) design, being a generic RCH (Presumably) PO Wagon tooling. Eventually we'll get another proper pre-grouping wagon to complement Oxford's NBR one...
  11. I've been an outside lurker for a while, but I just wanted to add my admiration of your beautiful Brighton locos, Mr Northroader! They are truly beautiful works of art, and make me exceedingly jealous! Carry on the good work!
  12. Thought I'd better introduce myself on my favourite part of the forum: signed up today to do a poll, so might as well contribute elsewhere! I am by no means versed in all things South Eastern, or Chatham or Dover for that matter, but I've always got the impression that the 'proper' express workings, pullmans, boat trains, etc, used the main line down through Tonbridge, whilst slower workings used the old LCDR line. Obviously there would've been local services on all the lines, but that's the impression I have got. I'm probably wrong, mind, being more Brighton and Nine Elms (Sometimes Eastleigh too!) in tastes... All the best, and I look forward to taking part in this, the more eccentric yet at the same time somewhat more civilised part of the forum... (Civilised?! Civilised?!!! That's a short word for the pre-grouping section!)
  13. Looking forward to the Oxford announcement. My logic suggests they'll go for something from the constituents of the LMS: We've had a Southern Constituent (LSWR 0415 - 488 is a stunning model, and I could've bought two for the price of the Hornby one!), a GWR Constituent (Dean Goods - Technically the original GWR was a constituent of the post-1923 version!), and the (Just about pre-grouping) GER E4. I'd go for something Midland, to complement existing models, or something North Western as it's rather unrepresented. Although a new member, I am aware of some members campaigns for North Eastern locos, and I think it would be nice to have a J21 or another 0-6-0 to complement the shunter (J72) and Heavy Freight Loco (Q6... Sort of. Not pre-grouping enough for me!) announced and available. Personally, I would rather like an SECR D (To complete the set for that company... we have a mid-range passenger tank, a small tank and an 0-6-0 goods loco. Now we need the express loco!), and until Sunday I would've said LBSCR H1... but now I'll say LBSCR C2 (And C2x, but both please, not just the C2x!) 0-6-0, as (with the exception of a new Terrier and some coaches) that would bring us close to having two pre-grouping companies with enough RTR support to put together a reasonably accurate layout. The fact they're neighbours would be helpful, I feel. Interesting to note in the new poll on here that Pre-Grouping is currently polling higher than the (supposedly!) more popular post-privatisation period. Bachmann is catering quite nicely for both at the moment... Of course, if Oxford did an open-cab Double Fairlie or a VOR 2-6-2T (Both GWR 1923 builds and the originals) then my money would be gone within minutes... All the best,
  14. Interesting to note that pre-grouping scores higher than post-privatisation... good news as far as I'm concerned! Joined the forum just to take part in the poll... may do other bits in the future though! I get the feeling there may be more under-15 modellers though, but in some cases I fear the notion of a forum containing (mostly) older men may put some of that age group off. Not a criticism, just something to bear in mind if the proportion of younger modellers seems rather low. sem34090
