  1. I've been playing around with the idea of modelling a O9 layout for some time, and have decided to model a station in an undecided location. To go with the layout, I need to have suitable stock to run on the layout, so most will either be scratchbuilt, adapted, built from kits or designed and built from my own kits. The first dedicated locomotive for the layout is "River Irt", and will be modelled in my favourite condition. I prefer the look of the locomotive pre rebuild, so it will have it's miniature outline. The locomotive and tender bodies are 3D prints, with the loco having a non powered Bachmann 0-8-0 chassis and the tender housing a Kato tram chassis.* Apologies for the dark photographs. I will take the locomotive outside tonight for some clearer photos. With the purchase of a die cutter, I hope to be able to produce some locomotives and stock from plasticard. Having produced a 3D printable bodyshell for Lady Wakefield, I converted most of the files to a 2D image, in order to cut a body shell out of plasticard. I've still got to build this one, and there are some errors in the design. Quite happy with the process so far however. Hope to keep this updated regularly, as I have about 8 locomotives planned out for the layout, not including visiting ones from other lines. * - I am aware the wheelbase is a touch too short, however given it is a smooth runner and will be hidden by dummy outside frames, it is an acceptable compromise in my eyes.
  2. Work on the layout has stalled for now, due to space constraints at the moment. I'm planning on volunteering at the railway soon, so will hopefully be able to model accurately from some of the items still on the line from that period.
  3. I seem to remember a model shop on the platform at Nuneaton Station, which was piled high full of all sorts of models. One thing that I can remember is a British outline HO diesel, running on a 4 wheel chassis. Ended up getting a set of Bachmann private owner wagons from there, never been back sadly. The original Barby Model Rail (when at the garden center) was a treasure trove, moved to Hillmorton locks and the owner retired a few years ago. Always had a good selection of items and plenty of bargains. The shop still exists thankfully. A far better shop in the Rugby area compared to Joto Hobbies, who carry a limited amount of items and don't really like people picking items up to view them from my experiences in the past.
  4. That's the best build of one of my kits I've seen yet, out of all the Minitrains based locomotives it was the one I was least happy with too. Glad to see you've worked wonders on it.
  5. I suppose this could be at home here, a Roxey Cyprus Railway 2-6-0 with a few differences, painted in a South African inspired livery. By changing the tender, the loco can either be a OO9 loco or a O9 loco. Full details here : http://2a-rail.proboards.com/thread/22/south-african-hollywood-stock-mogul?page=1&scrollTo=44
  6. I can vouch for 3Dhubs. Uploaded a few of my own designs and have found them to be roughly half of the price Shapeways charge for similar materials.
  7. Willing to pay, however I have a loco build underway that is tender powered but need an eight coupled chassis. If anyone is able to find a spare one let me know
  8. Tonight has given me a chance to do further work on the TKh loco body, still getting a few parts correct but will be leaving smaller details like whistle, cab, buffers etc which will be made from castings and etches.
  9. Spent this morning working out track needed, thankfully Google Maps offers a nice overhead view and a surprising 3D view of the station. Given it's already a compromise at OO and some wheel standards on the models will be to older specifications, I'll be laying the track as code 100. Thankfully it's a decent trackplan, which should allow for running around the train, loco movements and even possibly moving stock from the sidings.
  10. With no kits or anything similar to build Vanguard or Northampton with, I've started building up a 3D printable body for both. Will be less detailed in some areas to apply detail by hand, just need to source a suitable chassis for both locos now.
  11. Working or non working, would like one if anyone has a spare or redundant model.
  12. My mistake, I thought the Bachmann model was better. Seem to recall an article in Model Rail some years ago about using the Bachmann chassis with the Hornby body.
  13. So far I've been drawing up motive power, which will reflect the locomotives I saw in use during the 1990's. Some creative freedom is being done with one locomotive, as I believe it's slightly too new (to the line) for the time period I am modelling. Class 25 25035 "CASTELL DINAS BRAN" in BR maroon, as preserved. Think this may have been the first preserved Diesel I saw in operation. Locomotive now at GCR. TKh49 5374 "Vanguard" black lined with red. Locomotive sold and moved from railway in 2016. TKh49 7646 "Northampton" red lined with straw yellow.* Locomotive now in Belgium? Peckett R4 "2104", green with black lining. I have placed a bid on a Hornby 25 (Aware of the Bachmann model but I fancy a challenge) and have sourced some TKh49 drawings thanks to EddieB, so will be making a model of both Vanguard and Northampton. I will be designing the bodies with a view to 3D print, and use them on a commercially available chassis, whilst there may be some compromise below the footplate I aim on replicating most details above it. The Peckett will be a 3D printed body on a converted RTR chassis. To boost the operational side of things, I also remember Ex LMS Jinty 47298 operating on the railway, so that will be an easy model with Bachmann producing a model that can be tweaked somewhat. * Don't believe this locomotive was named until 2002, but because I have a soft spot for the class a model will be built and used occasionally.
  14. Have looked but cannot seem to find a copy, I'd be overjoyed with a scan if you can do so for me, thank you.
  15. Just started a topic on my own plans for a layout, which will hopefully come together this year: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/131296-pitsford-brampton-station-1990s-oo/ Hoping to try and nail everything correctly in terms of vehicles, locomotives, stock and even decoration so will be a long term project.
  16. Spurred on by thoughts of why preservation modelling isn't that popular, and how some models seem to work unprototypically, I've decided to aim to build a model of Pitsford & Brampton Station, modelling the railway in the mid-late 1990's. This was my regular preserved railway that I visited growing up, so it has a few special memories to me. So far, I've been planning out stock for the line, which will range from repainted RTR to scratchbuilds for some items of stock. Given the size of the line and it's overall operating potential, this shouldn't cost too much to build and will have a nice mix of rolling stock to play with. I've got a few photos from when I was younger of the line, so will be using these amongst others for reference. For a while now, I've modelled Narrow Gauge but I've decided to return to Standard Gauge modelling. The first loco I'm building is Vanguard, a Polish TKh49, which will be joined by a rake of coaches used on the line. I'm trying to recreate it as I remember it, so will be working to try and get every detail correct.
  17. Still better than anything else I've managed to get so far. It's a penny on Amazon with a couple of pounds postage, so will order that and see what I can do with it. Thank you for helping me out.
  18. Morning all, Wondering if anyone could help. Looking for a detailed set of drawings for this particular class of locomotive, as I wish to build some members of the class in OO. (I know they're a polish prototype, but some have seen use here in preservation.) Tried the usual sources and have some lower quality diagrams thanks to a few websites, but could do with something with more detail.
  19. Been to Riverside and the previous transport museum, and can't help but feel it was so much better previously. Given the GSWR loco is the only surviving GSWR loco, I feel it's situated in a very stupid place.
  20. Trying to build up a small collection of Neverwazzas, ideally looking for non working models or even incomplete projects. If anyone has spare parts, please let me know
  21. Perfect excuse to buy older stock/non-working/broken (delete as appropriate) items to fill a restoration line. Even if the model isn't accurate, there are many locos and other items covered in tarpaulins so as long as it looks right, it'd be convincing. I've had a long term plan to build a preserved station/MPD based on smaller preserved lines. Plenty of inspiration locally to take note of.
  22. I'm building a working diorama of a fictitious powered line, showing granite quarrying on Ailsa Craig, Ayrshire. First time entering the challenge so should be fun to attempt. So far I've worked out the stock needed, just need to start the buildings and scenery.
  23. Would like these to build some static stock if they're not already gone.
