  1. I appreciate they might shift more of this type/decoration, but I can’t see it being that many to knock the price that much. Just stands out alongside all of the other prices.
  2. One thing I have noticed here is R60076. How are Hornby able to produce and sell a decorated wagon for £7.49 yet charge £20.00+ for older tooling alongside it? It's not the most accurate item but would be great to flood the Railroad range with.
  3. Assuming new tooling could have been produced (Hornby International could come into play here), it could prove to be a big thing. Working with franchises Hornby work with already and companies too but examples that are culturally relevant to current audiences: The Polar Express Hornby have already worked with Lionel to market the not quite G scale Hogwarts Express. Lionel make a HO scale model of the Polar Express, and as such could be marketed in the UK/EU by Hornby working with Warner Brothers. A very popular franchise. http://www.lionel.com/articles/NewsStand-Lionel-Announces-The-Polar-Express-in-HO-Scale/ Back To The Future Scalextric already do DeLorean cars from the movies, so a 1/87 version of the third incarnation along with a model of Sierra Railroad No. 3 could work as a standalone pack. The locomotive could then end up in the Rivarossi range. https://uk.scalextric.com/products/delorean-back-future-part-3-c4307 Mission Impossible Two options here for models, the TGV shown in the first film or the mock steam locomotive used in the most recent. A decent representation could be produced using items in the Hornby and Jouef ranges. Murder On The Orient Express Going by the most recent film adaption, it would take items from the Jouef range and possibly a new locomotive body tooling. I am sure all four of the above would be relevant to joe public, and whilst I know tooling costs money I am sure a range done correctly could be a money spinner. I don't think your average person will have heard of Lady with the lamp or The Titfield Thunderbolt, but the above four alongside Harry Potter will be known.
  4. At the end of the day as Titfield has limited appeal (railway enthusiasts and classic film enthusiasts) would it be worth going to court for? It’s a 70 or so year old film and not exactly a popular one at that. Given Hornby working with Lionel, ie the large Hogwarts Express, I am honestly surprised we did not see a OO (Lionel HO rebranded model) version of the Polar Express alongside the range, can’t think of many more popular films that feature railways to worth with than Harry Potter and the Polar Express, apart for Thomas who Bachmann are now working with.
  5. I’m surprised we haven’t seen an adapter wagon.
  6. I’ve got to say going by RRP and the Hornby name, if they have legally got around this by doing a “inspired by” range, money will talk. The RRP is lower than the competition and of course joe public will know of Hornby but have no idea who Rapido are. Will be interesting to see how both compare but o can’t see Hornby doing something like this without getting their legal team involved first.
  7. Purchased one to have a look at (one of the Freight examples) and didn't read that it needs a seperate control! Back in the box until then, impressed with how it looks. Going to have to do something about the paint work however as it's just too bright for my eyes, it won't be a facsimile but I'll be copying a modern FOC livery for the loco and will probably paint the wagon (permanently coupled) in a departmental livery of sorts.
  8. Been way too long since I updated this, 73913 was in the workshop a few weeks ago so got some more details drawn and pencilled in. I'd say it's 90% complete now so will be sent to Shapeways in January.
  9. Yes it's based on Myfanwy - I'm modelling it to represent it in cut down form, as it was at Rugby, as I am modelling the depot. Few years out for what I am doing but can't say no to such a lovely machine.
  10. Hasn't technically been a loco I've seen at where I work, but it is one that was once found at my workplace. Hornby 0-4-0 diesel was a bargain buy (they have potential, honestly!) so lets see what a new cab and detailing can do for it. Tried to angle the cab CAD design over the body shell as closely as possible, think it shows how the model will look in a few weeks time. Now got to wait on a package arriving from Shapeways.
  11. Can't remember if I have posted it here before, but my here is my take on the GER C53/LNER J70 based around the Caley Pug chassis. 3D printed body sold through Shapeways*, fits upon a cut down Caley Pug chassis. Still need to do a lot and detail it up, but priced against a RTR one I can have a fleet of four for the price of a ready made one. * - link to buy: http://shpws.me/QZW8
  12. Quick render to check layout of some parts, compare it to this photo to see what needs to be completed https://www.ontrackplant.com/photo/dr-73913-1
  13. Trying to go to town on some detail, here is the main drivers desk in Cab A, alongside the ALC unit.
  14. Long overdue update, haven't done too much but started drawing up buffers, bogie frames, details etc measured from 73913 and 73920. Still a long way to go but trying to proceed with it in order to make a printable model in the next few months.
  15. Please note loco boiler fittings are temporary, I aim to use whitemetal or brass castings for them as I do not feel I can design them correctly. I've done some more work on the loco and am making a start on the tender tonight.
  16. I don't know if the records are missing or not listed, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly sadly. Thank you so much! I've started putting together details of those listed on the roll of honour and this puts details to another name.
  17. Another view with some more progress, hoping to get some more CAD work done in the coming weeks and make a start on the tender.
  18. Long story short, I've wanted to have a few LNWR locomotives and matching stock for a while. Whilst I was looking over drawings, it dawned on me that the Hornby Compound, and similar 4-4-0s of the same chassis design (with valve gear removed) would be ideal for this loco. So far I've copied drawings into Sketchup and have started to create a body to print in resin, however I'll be leaving finer fittings and details off as I plan to make use of castings from existing ranges. I don't think this will be coming along any time soon, but I have a Compound on order that I hope to modify chassis wise to create the basis of this LNWR locomotive. Alongside it I may have to buy some Ratio LNWR coaches to join it...
  19. Good evening, I hope I've posted this in the correct place and hope to try and research this further. I am trying to find out information about members of staff at the LNWR Erecting Shop at Rugby who served in World War One. Whilst the memorial from the Locomotive Department was transferred to the Erecting Shop when it became the District Electric Depot, I am trying to find out about these people and their roles both in the LNWR, and in military service, as I am planning on suggesting a reinstated memorial is placed alongside the Loco Department one dedicated for the Erecting Shop staff. The comprehensive Warwickshire Railways website hosts the Erecting Shop Roll Of Honour, ref. LnwMA349, and can be found here: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrrm4015.htm It lists as follows: Captain C Middleditch Lieutenant R A Riddles Corporal E A Welch M.M Trooper A E West Dr W R Bolton Private T Montgomerry Private T W Daffey Private R Clowes Private W C Chater Private W Page RF M, G E Coley Private E C Busson Private D McNicoll Rifleman J H Cooper Private J C Birch Private E H Watts Sapper E H White Corporal H J Barker Sapper C J Barden Sapper J Ollier Private E A Ashwin Private F W Blunden Gunner L J Holloway Whilst looking at the list one name stuck out to me as a Railway Enthusiast, being Robert A Riddles. Trained at Crewe and working with the LMS, Ministry Of Supply and then British Railways. Of course I'm aiming to try and find out the history of all of the men named, I'd imagine most will be local but a few may have come from other arms of the L&NWR? I recognise a few Rugby surnames in amongst the names listed, so would be willing to get help from any relatives if possible. Granted times are strange at the moment which doesn't help matters, but I want to spend as much time as possible working upon this to ensure every detail is correct.
  20. I would argue that the building was rebuilt, as one of the walls is definitely part of the old LNWR erecting shop, if you look at the brickwork you can see where the windows once were.
  21. Not the greatest job, but I wanted to see how Colas livery would look on the HST power cars currently being used. I know others have adapted the livery but I wanted to try and keep it true to company application. Original picture from here: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hornby_HST_43087-02.jpg
  22. I know this is an older topic but I've noticed this when seeing them both together - On Track Plant stock and Freight liveried locos are different shades of orange and yellow
  23. I'll be honest I have seen a few depots modelled but some of the finer details are missing, guess it's hard to nail everything. Yes the 58 is an oddball but it's not completely out of the question to being a few back from France. Or maybe I just have a soft spot for them
  24. I've noticed Airfix have a quick build (Lego style) system for younger builders and Scalextric have a similar Lego styled system for cars too. Given Marklin already offer a brick compatible system in their younger range I feel Hornby have missed a trick in not doing something similar using the 0-4-0 chassis and the typical train set wagon chassis parts. Probably already been discussed on here but I'd imagine that would be more enticing to younger modellers, especially being compatible with another toy brand.
