  1. A look at the packaging has been revealed along with a mass production sample of both Englands. They've also reaffirmed the March release/shipping estimate, along with a link to a new dedicated 009 Kato website. Exploring the website a bit, there's actually a section where they've got a x-ray CAD mockup where they think a DCC coder can be installed, and a CAD drawing page with some measurements for the separately available chassis block.
  2. Aye but I meant more it closely based on No.6 as a base(with added ducketts) rather than any of the various No.6-inspired ones seen over the years, especially the CGI one which just looks wrong lol.
  3. High Sided wagons are likely to be the Ffestiniog wagons they're based on. The brakevans, no idea what they'll actually look like yet, same for the vans
  4. That's not entirely accurate. You'll notice on Peter Sam that he's far close in proportions and major details to Edward Thomas than his CGI model(his entire chassis for instance). Rusty is less obvious, but his chassis is also Midlander accurate. They're just less so than Skarloey and Rheneas...cause their CGI models are soooo far from the real life prototypes, unlike Skar and Rhen who's CGI models are...close enough for Bachmann to "fix" the major dimensions and proportions to match the prototypes. It's why Rusty is sort of hit or miss for both RWS/IRL modelers and TVS Modelers, Rusty is scaled to Midlander proportions but his body is the CGI body, which in turn is the Large Scale model body, used cause midlander had a long since been rebuilt by the time Nitrogen Studios went to measure the TR engines. There's been no kerfuffle, not for the NG range that is. But yeah, basically Peter Sam isn't as close to ET compared to No.1-2 cause the CGI model is quite a ways off for ET, Bachmann clearly did what they could but they can't make 100% of course. Frankly I think settling for a completely accurate chassis was the best call for them, body is definitely at least 60-70% ET vs CGI based. It's why Sir Handel will probably be a "return to form", cause his CGI model is already as close to Haydn as No.1-2's CGI models are to their prototypes.
  5. More likely a complete body replacement all told tbh. But still, accurate chassis for ET that's for sure. Should also be noted that Bachmann decided to design the model so that the trailing wheel is also powered, which is why there's a bulge doing through the middle of the cab. It'll be interesting to see how much more traction and better running it offers(or indeed how hard it would be to remove for anyone who wants a more open cab) Tbf though, some well placed figures should hide it well anyway.
  6. Well my Rebuilt No.10000 arrived yesterday and it wasn't...great. Chimney wasn't fitted properly so you could see a fair amount of daylight under it, one of the sliding roof vents was loose in the box along with the driver's seat. One of the tender pickups was twisted back and was making a terrible screeching sound when I test ran it. Currently looking to see if I can send it back and swap it for another Garter one, normally I avoid doing that if possible as I'm in the US but-. Man the QC has really gone down the pipes with Hornby and we're now paying even higher prices for this sort of thing.
  7. I somehow doubt it was Rapido that tried to steal a march on Hornby. Seems more likely that Hornby learned that Rapido had acquired the Titfield rights before them and then rushed to reveal their own plans to do a Lion before Rapido could, as Rapido had announced that they had a major reveal to make on April 1st, before Hornby's own sudden reveal that they'd be doing Lion. Along with the fact that, you know, Rapido actually has a contract with Studio canal for the Titfield stuff, which no doubt would've been settled a fair amount of time before either announcement, especially given that Rapido had a lot of CAD work completed and ready to show off under 3 weeks after their initial announcement of the range.
  8. Hornby now appears to list both the rebuilt garter blue and 60700 as in stock on their website. Here's hoping they arrived at retailers soon.
  9. Well I was saying it wasn't Hornby who dragged Bachmann to court over it, it was HiT entertainment for using the loco toolings in another range. Currently, that slapfight doesn't seem to make much sense. If it's an internal affair as described, I would think their parent company would step in as that's notable lost profits for them. This and the fact that apparently this also was in regards to the N scale range, which will be releasing soon in the UK, seems to make that theory seem incorrect.

Indeed, I doubt there's any worry about TTTE copyright, that was long settled since the time the franchise owners(Don't know who did it exactly) tried to sue the Bluebell over Stepney being IEG...said case was thrown out of court immediately cause the livery is of course, historical and the engine wore it well before it was featured in the original books, let alone the TVS. Why Hornby stubbornly refuses to make any of the IEG livery variants Stepney has been in throughout preservation truly astounds me. Like there is no good reason I can think of, cause it is THE most demanded terrier as far as I can tell, they'll be able to tap into that TTTE market (in the sense of how it appeared in the books and the show), they have the livery drawn up already for the A1x and they'd just have to make a couple small changes cause we got Brighton Works a couple years ago, and lord knows many of those Brighton Works have been converted INTO Stepneys lol.
  11. Actually that's not true. Bachmann's TTTE engines across all its ranges are under contract to only be used for those ranges, ie, the tooling can only be used for the Thomas ranges. It goes double for Skarloey and Rheneas, as I believe they were initially commissioned by Mattel to start. SO yeah, nothing to do with Hornby there. Well bar Bachmann being unable to sell their main OO scale range(s) in the UK till Hornby released the UK rights. Though on the subject at hand, there's definitely some IP breaches going on with this. Like it was bad enough that Hornby rushed to announce Lion before Rapido officially announced theirs's(they had announced an announcement weeks prior), but the fact that they're trying to cut in on the Titfield stuff so blatantly is just ridiculous. Like it honestly would've been one thing already to do Lion, but this? Good lord. And the tragic thing is is that the Trains on Film range idea isn't bad at all, but it's clearly being done primarily to try and get away with the titfield lot.
  12. Mine arrived today, All wondeful, but one of the BR black ones was uh, not exactly great in terms of detail assembly. Both whistle and steam pipe weren't properly placed/thread into the cab, and the reversing rod was missing entirely, not even in the box. I've contacted rails, I'd much rather have a spare part sent than send pay to send it back, I'm in the US, lest I have to deal with the burden of shipping costs. Or at least some money bach, cause I can always print a new one.

  14. Wanted: spare Fowler tender(s) for a couple projects of mine. Nothing too specific, but looking for the flush-rivet type preferably. Also would prefer it be of the Bachmann type or the type used on the current railroad Hornby 4F or similar. Many Regards, Tom
  15. Aye, contacted them to see if they could be sent out before Christmas, as they say to do such on their site, but no idea if they'll be able too. I'm not expecting them to be here FOR Christmas but hopefully they may be able to get it shipped out before Christmas

  18. Building a Furness K2, and after some hurdles, finally have the axles, wheels and drive system mostly done. But- I don't have suitable coupling rods. I was able to finally track down a number for the coupled wheelbase, and made sure to check it against my chassis, so I know I'm looking for coupling rods of approx 8'6" or 34mm in scale. Anyone know of any engines or coup rods that are close or match? And yes, I do know about Alan Gibson universal coupling rods buuut I can't find any one who has them in stock, let alone that ships to the US.
  19. Hey all, I'm just curious how romford pickups are all, well, wired up. I've ordered some along with romford wheels and axles as the Hornby ones are ever so slightly too small to be used with the LRM motor mount I'm using, there's just too much play and it's causing binding issues, and they're near impossible to get perfectly quartered. Basically, I've read they only need to go on one side of the engine which doesn't seem right? That and I have no idea how it would all be wired up to get to the motor? This is for DC btw

Couldn't find any previous threads that covered what I'm curious about, what are the generally recommended types of Flux and solder for both putting together a gearbox and for engine pickups(electrical ofc)? I am in the US, which has made it surprisingly difficult to get a clear answer. Doesn't help most of what I'm recommended is the paste, from which I have learned...just to use liquid.

Hi all, I'm building an FR K2 and with the gearbox and motor now on order, I'm turning my attention to the pickups, I'm planning on using copper pcb as a base, but for the pickups themselves I'm a bit lost. I've been recommended nickel silver wire but I can't seem to find any decent rolls of it, I do however have plenty lengths of .45mm nickel silver handrail wire. Has anyone ever used nickel handrail rail wire for pickups? And what are some other methods, materials, choices or even overall designs for doing pickups in general?
