  1. Why do some have the proper lamp irons such as "Brighton Works" and others not?
  2. They suggested September when I emailed them.
  3. Back in the 80s I had a job with a knitwear company owned by a Hong Kong company. We got a large order for a well known department store chain. Our quality control was not the best and in the end the department store sent a couple of people down to discuss the issue. They spoke for ten minutes about what they were looking for and then the Chinese Manager said, this is my factory and we will make our product as we want to. The meeting is over. I lost my job a weeks later. Don't think very much has changed.
  4. So June has gone and no sign of a J27. July half done, will we see it by September?
  5. The Stamp shows the 2nd Class behind the 1st. Looks like although it had a roof, the sides were open.
  6. I may be wrong, but I always thought that there were three classes of carriage on the L&M and the open wagons were Third Class. Picture taken from the Science Museum.
  7. I have started placing orders with TMC and I am also highly impressed. Questions are always answered politely and in a timely fashion and living in Nova Scotia I appreciate that I can request that they provide a quote for shipping.
  8. Thanks to Hroth for explaining to those of us less familiar with the wonders of TTS decoders. I quite like the idea of the R7140 HST (Valenta)!
  9. I wonder what sound it made? Quick look on Youtube and the original footage was silent. Would a HP Boiler make different sounds? I suppose changing the chimney would also have some difference? Maybe a Hornby R8119 would work? ;-)
  10. So almost as useful as Hornby's first LNER Q6 with a 1946 number?
  11. One on order, not so sad i sold the Nu-cast kit now!
  12. Just waiting for my 2nd replacement from a well known retailer in the NW. Probably stuck in the snow bank that is called Nova Scotia. First model a John Milton worked fine on DC then when I put a decoder in nothing. Took the decoder out and nothing on DC. Returned under warranty. Requesting they fix. Got a refund as they had sold out of JM. Ordered a No.19, same problem, requested that they check it wasn't the decoder and tried it in the loco. Also requested that the shipping was given as a credit note rather than returned to my card. In due course got an email saying the shipping had been refunded to my card ( although they were aware this would cause me a loss due to currency exchange) and a "new" 19 was being sent and they had checked the decoder on the bench but not in the loco. The decoder is from retailer, so I don't understand why they would supply something that doesn't work in the loco? Why does it not work in DC when the blanking plate is replaced? All I am sure of is I will shop elsewhere in future.

I quite like the look of the T&W PTE version but noticed that the destination board is Whitby. The PTE gave funding for the Sunderland to Newcastle service before the Metro was extended and the units although used on that route were sometimes extended further south. At one time there was one train a day south from Newcastle to Whitby, I don't think it had a return service timetabled (although of course they didn't just collect them in Whitby). Must have been a fun ride all the way!
  14. These are some of the nicest hoppers ever! Make my old Mainline 20T Hoppers look a bit poor. Now the question is do I weather them?
  15. Mine arrived last week, all nicely wrapped. When I opened the bubble wrap around the box I that one end of the box was crushed. No damage to the model itself but at 125 quid a coach, you would think they would look at the boxes before they pack them. Anyway once alerted Rails promised to send a new box.
  16. Just wanted to say that there was an email from Simon Chivers when I got home and I have ordered a kit. Fingers crossed the journey across the Pond isn't too stressful!
  17. So the email doesn't work? Thanks!
  18. Hi, I've been looking for a Chivers LNER Pigeon Van and my internet searches reveal that the Chivers kits were taken over by his son under the Slimrails banner. There is a website and I've dropped off a couple of emails but not had a response. Does anybody know if the company is still going and had any dealings with them? Thanks
  19. Thanks Rob! I've not used Smith's before but will look some out. Best Richard
  20. Hi, Sorry if somebody has mentioned this before but I have not seen it. I fitted the screw link couplings to my set and was most impressed that they appear to be working apart from one slight problem. They don't reach the next coach! Has anybody found the same? It would appear the buffers are too long and prevent the link reaching the hook. I thought about adding another link, but am concerned that would still mean the buffers are close to touching and probably wouldn't like curves. I thought about fitting Kadees, although not prototypical, they look better than tension lock. Any comments are welcome.
