1971 Central Electricity Generating Board “Power Progress 13” booklet contained extensive information and photos covering the developing 400kV super grid .

Thank you .One of the many fascinating aspects in regard to these structures is how light can change and play with them.

How realistic are your models? Photo challenge.

From memory there were two detailed Woodhead layouts . One was north facing and featured the L6 tower/sealing station while the other was south facing omitting the L6 area.

1:76 scale 1930’s British CECB/National Grid PL1 30D deviation/substation feeder pylon , prototype located to the rear of Hornby’s Margate factory. -
I recall many years ago at Warley the N gauge Woodhead tunnel layout was there complete with an L6 , although at that scale the L6 was not quite fully detailed it was still an excellent model.
-
The last two photos featured a different layout in OO, although this one was also based on an area around Manchester.

Tolworth show today , excellent array of layouts including this O gauge Manchester to Sheffield recreation. Sadly when approaching electrical utility modelling ,with the exception of a Hornby Skaledale transformer substation, the only reminder was the photographic back scene on this layout .

Yes ,although once they resume on the Welsh side the designs change from BICC to Balfour Beatty. The line continues past Newport then heading north , terminating at a large substation west of Caerphilly . From there the L6 route eventually joins another from Walham/Oxford heading off to Pembroke powerstation.
-
West bound to the Severn Bridge ,then under and off to Wales. As with the L34 and SF60 designs these have internal access ladders.
-
Facing east in the Cotswolds ,heading off to the Melksham substation.

Try Cutfoam as they custom cut to order . For my SF60 I simply ordered several 40cm x 40cm sheets and cut these to size myself . For the larger towers they supplied foam inserts to my specifications. All the best, Paul.
