Not too much to report, I'm afraid, I've been extremely lazy lately. I have, however, got this far with the Janus; and finished my 2mm test track/photo plank; also (many thanks to Julia) assembled all the parts that I need for my Q1 2mm conversion. I've also DCC'd my classes 24 and 37, just need to fit Extreme Etchings parts and weather them. Alex.

"Diesels in the Duchy" - AKA St Blazey - DCC EM
Alex Duckworth replied to 2ManySpams's topic in Layout topics
Stood and watched DitD at Butterley, would have said hello but you both looked too busy. Lovely layout, reminds me of my trips to Par to visit my parents. Alex. -
you have been watching...

Hello Pete, very brave - but a clearing of the decks is often a good idea, new start and all that. Hope the move goes well. all the best, Alex. -
Some progress with the Janus Also an as yet unconverted Dapol pannier on my mocked - up LU Diorama. Hard to model in this heat, though. Alex.

A photo of my YE Janus, mentioned earlier in the thread. The chassis is still a pile of bits, I wanted to get the body this far so that I could fit the chassis to it, rather than the more usual other way around. Nice kit, goes together really well. Alex.

Newcastle Quayside and Trafalgar Yard.
Alex Duckworth replied to Alex Duckworth's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Although I haven't posted on this thread for quite a while I've been following it with great interest, and I'm starting to get a much better idea of how the Quayside yard looked. The 1896 map shows what appears to be three buffer stops, whilst the track nearest to the riverside wall looks as if it goes into the Grain and General Warehouse - does anyone know if this was so, and do any photos of the entrance and that end of the Yard exist? Hello David, starting to look really good now. regards, Alex. -
Good idea Pete, I'm sure that you would come to regret completely scrapping Kyle, it's too good to go. Alex.

Starting to look good, I wouldn't have guessed that it was your first etched kit. I've got one of these to build so I'm watching with interest. Alex.

Coming on well Pete, that third rail looks pretty good. Alex. -
Just started this, a Judith Edge kit of the YE "Janus" I think that I'm going to enjoy this one. Alex.

Not long off my workbench is the Hudson Tipper test model I built for RT Models, very nice it is too. Alex.

That is a real improvment - I've wanted to do a Warship for some time now but the Farish front just hasn't looked right somehow, your etched replacments show why. Alex.
-
You're right there - I just managed to stop myself ordering a couple of DR 99's in 1:120th. The bucket excavator may be a done deal, though. Alex.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Hello Rich, sorry but I agree with the majority, I think that they are just too big to sit on the layout like that. Alex. -
Hello Jerry, sorry to say (although I'm no expert) I think that the only NCB panniers in red were the 1500's at Coventry. Have a look at these http://www.flickr.com/groups/1337593@N25/pool/ for inspiration - nice 08 on page 3........... Alex. Just noticed that the 08 is an 11. Sorry.

Hello Steve, I usually prime the wheels, just a mist over with "Teroson" etch primer decanted into my airbrush and thinned with cellulose thinners. I don't blacken the rims, and I use an old Rotring circle drawing template to mask the rims, they have circles in 0.5mm increments, just push the wheel into the appropriate hole and spray. Also I've always used Devcon to fix my balance weights, I prefer it to Araldite. Alex.

When is 'enough is enough'?
Alex Duckworth commented on -missy-'s blog entry in Highclere - 2mm Finescale
Rather than drilling or boring the axle hole in a blank centre, had you thought about having the wheels printed slightly oversize, mounting them on a mandrel and skimming down to size before fitting the tyres? Apologies if you've already tried this. Alex. -
Hello David, that's the first time I've been described as honourable, although I have been called a member before. Alex.

Beautiful scenics and groundwork, really impressive stuff. Alex.

Nothing until New Year, I'm taking a break. 1501 is finished, photos to follow. I might get my Blue Pullman out of it's box though. Hope you all had a great Christmas and will have a Happy New Year. Alex.

Wagon(s) roll...
Alex Duckworth commented on bcnPete's blog entry in paddock wood bay (in a boxfile)
Great to see you back again, hope the job is working out well. Those etched platforms are a huge improvment, looks good. The Mathieson couplings sometimes benefit from a drop of oil and a "waggle" to free them up a bit before fitting, I have found. regards, Alex.
