  1. Hi Modellers. Happy Easter . I have been considering the idea of converting an ex Dapol L & Y Pug for a while now, although everyone says “ Simples “ it would be my first go at doing one. The idea of the Pick Ups going via the chassis and the mention of “ hard wired “ puts the fear of God in me. I got as far as buying a Decoder, and stopped. Happy Modelling Kev
  2. Hi Phil. When I said about being crowded and doing something wrong I meant that Nearholmer was using my full name. But now I have gone and something wrong, I have got my wiring in a muddle, causing a polarity problem. My idea of “ Designing a BLT has got derailed “. I will have to hang up my keys while I scratch my head, and think about it Happy Modelling. Kev
  3. Hi Redgate Models. Thank you. Yes I do use toggle clamps (c/o Station Road Baseboards) but I didn’t think of that. Happy Modelling Kev
  4. Hi Cliff. Thank you. Yes they are the regular 4 mm banana plugs and sockets, the plugs are wired to the bus and pass through the baseboard ( crudely but isolated) and the sockets are secured to the original baseboard and the wires are soldered to the bus. As for a photo, My iPad does take sharp photos, but how do I post them on RMWEB , And what part of the wiring? Happy Modelling Kev
  5. Hi Modellers I have got a problem connecting two baseboards together electrically, I am only concerned with the bus wires, I thought that it would be simple and chose “ Banana plugs and sockets “ but I have come a cropper! I keep getting a short circuit , which I cannot trace. The first baseboard works fine by itself, but there seems to be a short somewhere . Could it be the banana plugs? Happy Modelling Kev
  6. Hi Adrian. Again very good work. I have tried similar techniques, but, my results were lacking something, as I used card instead of MDF, With brick paper, that wasn’t so cooperative? I used that well known brand of solid non stick stuff, a wallpaper seam roller , and famous brand craft knife. Happy Modelling Kev
  7. Hi Northroader. I have taken your advice. That is an excellent layout. I don’t know if you have seen the series of YouTube videos on former branchlines in Kent , including Westerham, the Hawkhurst Branch etc etc. Really worth a viewing unfortunately long gone now . Happy Modelling Kev
  8. Hi Adrian. If I was going to attempt a similar layout using an 0-6-0 Loco? Would you please tell me which class would they use with a “ Push Pull Set “? Because the R1 class in the photo that I saw online of Westerham, I cannot find any details of that number. Happy Modelling Kev
  9. Hi Westerhamstation . What a handsome looking layout, I had better resign? or think of an alternative, I could never compete with this workmanship. I don’t think that I would have enough time to learn the techniques let alone build such an impressive model. Happy Modelling Kev
  10. Hi Kevin. Thank you for being so polite. Before I think about my own thread , I have been on YouTube again, and looking through photos also online. I found a photo of Westerham in Steam day’s with a small yard, a platform and runround ? But I couldn’t see a turntable, does anyone have any more information about a turntable? But it could be a good model to begin with. Happy Modelling Kev. PS a long time ago, when I did something wrong my Mother would call me Kevin, I hope that I haven’t done anything wrong now.
  11. Hi Phil. That is probably down to me? I am here for guidance, not knowing which “ Road to take “. As previously stated, I have been following advice on YouTube, and more than likely took the wrong route. I had been out of Model Railways for so long, I really need a pilot man ( as per single line working) or even a token. Please advise me. Happy Modelling Kev
  12. Hi mdvle. Thank you too. I got it wrong? The Adams 02 wasn’t involved, but the Hornby LSWR M7 was along with some others. Yes the straight track doesn’t pose a problem. What I cannot make out is all the points , on this plank are Peco large radius Electrofrog points where later in the day I ran the M7 on another plank with Peco short radius Electrofrog points, and apart from the odd Hornby stutter ( oxidation on track? ) it ran fairly well. Happy Modelling Kev
  13. Hi JST. Thank you. I understand that track rubbers scratch the track which isn’t very good for DCC Operation as the minute scratches allow dust to accumulate. Happy Modelling Kev
  14. Hi David. I do like your plan, as for your comment on “ Little resemblance to Prototype Layouts “ I haven’t got an opinion . Personally I got my ideas from YouTube being led down this road, through lack of space to set up a regular layout. My efforts so far have been Inglenooks, but I have not managed to include a Loco runround nor a siding for Brake Vans. As for the length of the baseboard, nine foot? I have confined my planks/ modules to four foot, except my latest idea being a four foot fiddleyard, if I had seen this idea first I could of done something similar. Happy modelling Kev
  15. Hi Modellers. Another question arose in connection with Shunting Puzzles, my 0-6-0 Locos Run through the points without a problem, but I have an M7 and an Adams 02 , obviously not for Shunting, but they have to negotiate points, that I am having problems with, all Peco code 75 large radius Electrofrog points, whether or not it is in the case of the 02 The drivng wheels need adjusting, or the bogie wheels I don’t know in both cases. Or “ Horror of Horrors “could it simply be a case of “ Dirty Tracks “? I have already purchased a Digitrains Track Cleaner, but none of my 0-6-0’s can shift it without what seems to be a struggle?and I don’t want to go down the “ Double Headed or whatever route “ . Buying a larger Diesel was not on my agenda, and the idea of it just to tow or propel a track cleaner would be “over the top “ , then again if I could buy a suitable Loco capable of handling the track cleaner that is suitable for BR ( S ) at the time when Diesel was taking over from Steam I would consider it. Happy Modelling. Kev
  16. Hi Mikkel. I am interested in small Shunting Puzzles, and I have just added a Fiddleyard to my Inglenook, with difficulty? But today it is Thursday 14 th March 2019 and as a “ lot of water has flowed under the bridge “ I must ask, “ are you still into micro layouts?” And as I am a complete outsider when it comes to to anything small, your work looks excellent and leaves my attempts way behind. Following the Inglenook ideas that I have found online and modelling OO my Shunting Puzzles are four foot long, which must be much bigger than the idea of “ micro “ Layouts. Would you please advise me on how to begin a micro and what it entails? Happy Modelling Kev
  17. Oldddudders. As I said “ Fat arthritic fingers “, I do realise that the Couplings could Pull out, but knowing my luck, I don’t want to wreck it. Happy Modelling Kev Hi David. Thank you for the info. I will jot that in my Model Railway Notebook for future reference. For now though I will have another go, carefully, at removing the Couplings in the Hornby Set. Happy Modelling Kev
  18. Hi Pacific 123 G. Thank you. I also use Kadee on my Inglenook wagons. But I don’t intend to uncouple the coaches, just to have them running up and down a short branch line. I also agree with comments made about the tension lock Couplings, they are like a large fishing hook that has been straightened on the front, or rear of a train, looking nothing like any prototype Coupling . They were presumably made for convenience . Happy modelling Kev
  19. Hi Modellers. I, in my haste fitted the standard NEM Couplings, as you do? To one coach without realising that I had got it wrong , until that is I found the “Close Couplings “ . Now I am stuck, with my fat arthritic fingers, I cannot change the Couplings, I tried with tweezers, long nose pliers, if I had long nails I may have a chance. Is there perhaps someone out there that could suggest how to remove the standard NEM Coupling to the end so that I can have the close Couplings in the centre? Happy modelling Kev
  20. Hi Alun. One of my Shunting Puzzles has Peco Electrofrog some small radius points, and even they cope okay with propelling my Hornby bogie b van. whether or not the very slow gearing of the Bachmann 08 Shunter is different from the Hornby 08 . Happy modelling Kev
  21. Hi Nearholmer and Phil. When I said “ a bit crowded “, that is because it was an afterthought. If you remember I only added the branch so that I can run my “Hornby Push Pull Set “ . When I returned to model Railways after a long while I had so many ideas, but no room, where the plank/module idea gave me an opportunity to build something and “Stow it” when not required. Happy modelling Kev
  22. Hi Phil. Of course you are correct in everything that you have said, a halt can never be a terminal station. Maybe I should have said “ small Station “ ? And who knows given time and a bit of luck, I would hope that my two planks/ modules can grow into a branch, that being the Inglenook and the fiddleyard , and a third part with the terminus proper, and go around a Curve with a certain amount of imagination? Who knows. Happy modelling Kev
  23. Hi Phill. Thank you also. In the reply from Nearholmer when he mentioned Beluncle Halt , that is what put the idea into my head. I believe that they call it “ Modellers Licence “ ? And the Inglenook could act as the sidings. The YouTube series on branchlines in Kent is quite interesting. As for a “ Run Round Loop “ , that would be superfluous with my Push Pull Set. Happy modelling Kev
  24. Hi Nearholmer. Thank you again. The Push Pull is the late BR Maunsell Set from Hornby but with an M7 . One report that I read, said that the Hornby model of the H Class didn’t Pull as well as their M7 . I have been watching a series of YouTube videos and Beluncle Halt featured in one. I would have liked to have bought the LSWR gate stock, and I would have if I had enough space to justify the expense.
