I remember an ex of mine who described herself as 'differently sane' People from different cultures even nations in Europe look at the world in a very different way, as indeed we do to them. So how they view the world starts off from e very different place to - say a White Englishman

I remember talking to a Marine who served in Oman. The Omani troops he led against the rebels would happily go on leave to fight for the other side and nobody thought this odd. My father and two of my uncles served in the British Army & RAF in Europe during WW2, whatever else happened they fought an enemy that was part of the same culture. By comparison another uncle who fought in Burma was dealing with an enemy that was hard to understand. The upshot of this of course was that we somehow think that what happened at the end of WW2 when we got unconditional surrender from Germany & Japan who then went on to become good international citizens can be repeated but it cant , look at....... Insert war of choice

Level crossing stupidity...

How can anyone be so stupid................. -
With the original engines we could have restarted Balmorals and had them running for several minutes before the impact occurred, and thats with Direct Reversing engines

Now we are on to putting holes in our own ships............

I was reading a book about crime and it pointed out that in the UK being a Police Officer is about as dangerous as being a van driver, BUT serving and former Officers have a significantly higher suicide rate than the rest of the population. Its a point that I would apply in many areas that the 'offence' for want of a better word is often the trauma that it inflicts on others. -
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-68008117 Now it has been pointed out that there is a significant discrepancy between the penalties for carrying a knife - 4 years max and dangerous driving 2 years. It seems to me that there is also a significant difference between how a 'fail to stop' is treated compared with someone on the run with a knife/gun. Now I realise that there are all sorts of operational difficulties but why isnt there a more 'robust' approach to Failure to Stop in terms of the resources deployed and force used with the primary purpose being to protect both the public and Police Officers? Similarly in how the offender is treated when caught ie no bail and longer in jail.

I was driving through Dean on the A361 near Shepton Mallett. It was dark and raining heavily. There is a 40mph limit and double white lines as well as a sharp bend. As I went round the bend I was passed by a BMW He accelerated up the hill and I then saw the tail lights weave all over the road as he lost control. Sadly he then regained control

Many years ago I was in the middle lane driving past Temple Meads station. A bus pulled out into the lane next to me, I anticipated correctly that it would probably swing over into mine because of its size so checked my speed. Looking in the mirror the driver behind me, all entitled middle class did a dance of frustration. It was quite a good dance that he kept up for quite some time as I made my way round the complex of roads at a safe speed, better than strictly!

Worth a report to Plod While they are not Drivers as such one hunt has been serfved an ASBO because of the way it behaves on the roads https://www.banburyguardian.co.uk/news/crime/warwickshire-hunt-served-with-notice-by-police-after-officers-say-they-continued-to-cause-danger-on-south-warwickshire-roads-3955050

Let me guess, no number plate on the quad bike? Almost certainly not road legal https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/news/cheltenham-news/woman-cotswolds-quad-bike-crash-8998874 Its suggested that she was following the hunt, certainly by all accounts she was with some right charmers. Worth looking up 'Hunt Havoc' https://www.league.org.uk/media/filer_public/75/f2/75f25df4-9a09-4c7f-aa92-9d1c177bc153/league_hunt_havoc_report_a4_low_res_v10_-_final.pdf While they are not 'Drivers' there are a lot of incidents of irresponsible and dangerous behaviour on the roads by hunts

I am starting to wonder if one change to driver training should be an interview with some sort of shrink to see if you are 'fit and proper' or a candidate for Broadmoor. Certainly if you are asking for your licence back after disqualification

Not a valid excuse

Sorry to hear about that. What happened? Its clearly possible that that Local Authority could be jointly liable if the state of the markings is an issue. There are two possible options 1. They knew but did nothing, or 2. There SHOULD have been some sort of inspection regime in place and/or they should have a view about how long markings should last
