  1. Interesting further report on the incident here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clkmld8zwmeo The force said two people were in the car, and that the driver, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of breaching court-imposed bail conditions which related to a separate case. He was taken into custody for questioning.
  2. In which case should they be road legal?
  3. Again I suggest a strong argument in favour of some sort of 'fit and proper' test for drivers, in this case having to demonstrate that you have dealt with your 'anger' issues before you get your licence back. Also of course someone who might well benefit from a spell in a NHS secure unit rather than prison
  4. What I never understand is how do you 'lose control' in a 30mph limit? I can see that there might be some external factors eg oil on the road - yes I have had that, it was 'interesting' but I got through it fine but seriously?
  5. Interesting to see how big Hattons was Clearly it might have been possible to build relationships to their mutual advantage but sadly wasnt to be
  6. How exactly did this work? Was there a standard design used by private builders and mainline companies or was it just a set of standards
  7. 'Interesting' looking loco What happened to the cab & chimney?
  8. I hope that Social Services have been round to protect other children in the household

  10. Do you still have Boltcropper Gangs? Not for the fingers and toes either
  11. Funnily enough I visited the Great Britain on Tuesday and saw her coming back in 1970. But she's a fraction of the size and no Asbestos on board
  12. In Railway Adventure Tom Rolt describes the lights in the Dolgoch Hotel dimming as the reservoir that supplied its turbine emptied. Pre 'National Grid' there were all manner of local systems, in one case a car engine driving a generator in a garage that supplied a few houses in a South Wales village
  13. I suspect that a Dapol 03 would be much more attractive price wise than a used Heljan or Bachmann one Also as 'smaller' layouts are more attractive on O I suspect that they might find a ready market
  14. I think it a great pity that the Office of Inspector of Lunatics was abolished along with the County Asylum because he appears to be an obvious candidate for the attentions of The Inspector
  15. What I can say is that a model engineering society of which I am a member is a Community Interest Company (CIC) which may be simpler than becoming a charity
  16. First Born took my meths fired mamod traction engine in for 'Show & Tell' when he was 5 Teacher was in her last year before retirement and when I warned her about pools of burning meths on the floor her reply was 'that sounds fun' He ran it with a TA first so they knew what they had let themselves in for
  17. Interesting suggestion here, https://news.sky.com/story/officers-should-be-allowed-to-ban-drug-and-drink-drivers-at-the-roadside-police-chiefs-say-13077983 Given the nature of a Drink/Drugs test I cant see why it should not be adopted, after all my neighbour's Driving Licence was taken away on medical grounds so why not the same for Drinkers & Druggies?
  18. Anybody fancy some engineering of the proper sort? https://savethepuffer.co.uk/introducing-our-first-training-course-in-traditional-steam-engineering-operations/ I dont know why you need a course for that sort of thing, I was just told I was in charge of the engine room and that as I had seen the engine room of the Bristol Queen as a 4 year old that would be more than sufficient
  19. I am told reliably that the mate on the IOMSPC Freight Ferry Peveril spilt his coffee on thhe control panel as the ship approached the linkspan in Douglas and she rammed the linkspan as a result
  20. What about for those balmy summer days out by the water a RC model of the Somerset & Dorset Railways SS Radstock In 00 its quite a sensible size
