  1. If you travel the more obscure parts of the BCN, watching the brickwork of the towpath edging sloping down into the water is very obvious. The Daw End canal has a lot of this, together with bridges designed to be jacked up to insert a fresh course of bricks or two
  2. My understanding of this thread is finding the longest section of level track - not flat It's in the title So all those straight bits at a constant level following some kind of partial grand circle around the earth all count. So do bits that curve, as long as they stay the same height above mean sea level Otherwise, it's going to get messy trying to work out which bits are flat but on a gradient, or are level but not flat because of infinitesimally small deviations Richard
  3. It is two different uses of the word 'flat' A cube has six flat faces. Put one on the ground and only two are level* Richard *just in case, if you can balance it on one of the corners, you are too clever by half!
  4. Hang on! It would be level, it wouldn't be flat - it would be either a curve or a section of a sphere (approximately) Richard
  5. Nice work there, connecting 'Act of God' back to 'Canopies' via an Architect Three points, and I think it's your deal Richard
  6. Not in our house, it's mostly feline
  7. According to my 'Nudging for Boys (1952)', animal nudges are classified as Acts of God Richard
  8. I wasn't aware that Cowlairs was a naval establishment... Richard This is an excellent thread, I'm glad I stumbled across it
  9. Much of the LNWR livery seems to have been made from fairly traditional materials.
  10. Well, ceiling is painted white, walls are blue (B&Q Googhome Frejus), second hand laminate floor is down Second hand Billy shelves are in together with my El-Cheapo workbench And I have swapped the motor on a Minitrix Dock Tank chassis for an N drive one. I'm modelling in my new room! Richard
  11. WD40 burns beautifully, it would probably be more effective on a diesel For the amount and time you use EasyStart it isn't going to damage an engine. A rich fuel mixture is more likely to clean the bores through condensation when starting from cold The biggest problem with EasyStart is - it works! So people use it to start engines that really need work doing to them. When they finally won't start even with EasyStart they are very tired indeed Richard
  12. Has anyone tried these?: https://www.rapidonline.com/White-Label-1396900-Points-Motor-With-Limit-And-Polarity-Switches-59-1100?IncVat=1&pdg=pla-339166022633:kwd-339166022633:cmp-757438067:adg-44804851896:crv-207912323492:pid-59-1100:dev-c&gclid=Cj0KCQjw1MXpBRDjARIsAHtdN-2I7hXCiIadUwF-Qj3o_Crkg5nKsb8zxauYRXt8FdtVDE_-wKedOIQaAqmmEALw_wcB Richard
  13. Nice plan! Unfortunately this thread is eight years old It is still a nice plan Richard

  15. Well, really! Knowing our interest in this, I do think they could have put that sign up sooner... Richard
  16. Based on this map: https://www.hs2.org.uk/where/route-map/#16/52.5179/-1.7233 It's HS2/3 Richard

  18. Pictures needed! Cow Gum was the adhesive of choice in the Technical Publications department when I was a student. Part of the fun was forming a huge ball of the used stuff Richard
  19. How odd - I have absolutely no trouble sticking my fingers together with almost any cheap bottle of CA Occasionally it is handy for making models too Richard
  20. It is indeed exactly where you say, the picture is of one on the other side of the road. As I said, the one you describe was over my left shoulder when I took my picture This is what I was refuting There's an awful lot of work going on in that area Richard
  21. It isn't. The shiny new one was over my left shoulder, this one is on the Birmingham side of the road Richard
