Insurance companies lend you an umbrella and then take it back when it rains.
Mike.
It’s the same as buying insurance and then immediately getting a survey from them to rate their insurance however insurance only allows itself to be rated when a claim is made. -

Is the 5th wagon back a 5 rib HTO or something else?
Its one of the earlier rebodied HTV's with the earlier style body but with the same stanchions as the later ones with two.

I have some diagram 1/100 and 1/141 Hornby models and yes, they look identical apart from the markings.
The LNER dia 100 (not BR 1/100 ex MoT mineral) and BR 1/141 were the same, one of the early BR ones from Head Wrightson was a LNER order that was cancelled and reinstated as a BR one, details of this are in the order book held by Teesside Archives.

And equally it is true that Beeching wanted to close a lot more than quiet rural branches.
Remember the Serpell report of 1982 that was close to the nuclear option! -
Back to his original idea of cherry picking trains to run!

It was not uncommon for BR to hire locomotives to industry.
As many collieries and coke works ran down towards closure BR loco’s were hired, such as Lambton Coke Works, Monkton, Derwenthaugh and Ashington.

The poor apostrophe has gone out of fashion as its meaning and use was not taught to many of us correctly if at all!

How about a PTA side tipping wagon as used on the North of England to Montrose Thompsons Carnegie Mag-Lime flow.
These were used from the eighties until the early naughties so ideal behind a class 37 or even 66.
Also suitable for the Booth Ferry Borough Council wagons.

The photo at Newcastle Central is not a coal train but an engineers spoil train, there was a brief spell when rebodied MDO's were used by engineers in the North East which were replaced by MCV's.

'Flying Scotsman is rather more complicated, there are 14 registrations, not all current, of which 6 include class 28. So using Flying Scotsman as a trademark for a model you may need permissions from 6 others!
I have never followed the logic behind Flying Scotsman especially as the same name applies to Eric Liddle and the name has been in the public domain for years, especially after the film of the same name in 1929.

The drawing for the plate conversion (without side doors) was published by Trevor Mann in the Model Railway Constructor, Annual of 1983.
The text states traffic from Rotherham.

I think the ice blue livery and data panels came in, if not concurrently, within a few months of one another.
However, IIRC, data panels were added to existing stock quite quickly, independent of overhauls and repainting. so I would expect "transitional" examples of white vans with data panels to be running around in the company of blue ones for at least two or three years.
John
If I remember correctly there is a Timken Bearings advert with a ice blue fish van published somewhere, probably Modern Railways.

Your trying to judge yesterday by the revisionist standards of today!
The country was not long out of the war and was still rebuilding at the time and yesterdays heroes are todays monsters.

How many piped vehicles survived at that time without having gained 'proper' vac-brakes ? ...... I've certainly never heard of a VANPIPE or similar coding !
The MoD Palvans and Highs were built with through pipes ; the Highs were later fitted. The TOPS diagram for the highs is on the Barrowmore site clearly shows through piped. -
Why is this being mentioned on here when a phone call or email to Tails would sort it out?

Whilst our local MP is busy supporting WCR he also seems to have been told that a tamper reported hitting a underground water pipe some 53hrs before the accident. He seems to be turning into a real railway enthusiast!
Call me cynical but it’s getting towards election time; remember me I’m you MP vote for me!
