  1. Within my list of 'options' to consider in the past, I have mentioned the ex-LNER U1 2-8-0 + 0-8-2.

Heljan have just announced this, so I'll have to withdraw this new model request!!

Another of 'my list' to remove!!

Clark Railworks are going to produce the WD 2-10-0 !!

Both of these are excellent selections.

  2. I generally find PayPal very reliable - the only problems I've had is when purchasing off Amazon.

The 'developing world' are fantastic at creating markets which perhaps shouldn't exist, and presumably they don't have the controls limiting such activities which we do over here.

I hope you didn't lose your funds and all is available for more lovely locomotives.

Still waiting on news of the new Accurascale Parallel Scots and Class 40's .... just a little dig .... 😄

  3. One contributor mentioned the different 'colours' used by Hornby on the boiler and cab, then later concluded it was probably the paint finish.

I have Railtec Matt, Satin and Gloss brush on lacquers.

I have found the Satin close to Matt - just a touch of sheen on it so went straight to a very thin covering of the Gloss.

It's very slightly too shiny, but the difference is obvious.

It'd be difficult to show up with simple photos but I can confirm ... it works!

I just painted the C.L. on the cab roof.

  4. Has anyone noticed a slight chaffing of the centre driver boss paint?

I believe it'll be from where the coupling rod is articulated.

It doesn't seem to affect the performance, which is super smooth, so must be very very slightly catching.

I'll just have to live with it.

  5. OK, if you saw 5 BR blue diesels side-by-side, at the time, it would be a rare occasion for them to all look the same.

Putting a B&Q tester on them would show quite a few variations I'm sure.

  6. Thanks for the reply OB.

Mine hinges perfectly as well but wouldn't want to open/close too often as CB intimated.

It would have also been nice to have a bit of a hollow under that flap, even piping, not just totally flush.  I know the chassis' just there, but some effort would have helped.

  7. I quite like Marmite ...  perhaps it's the beer it was a by-product of ....

QUESTION:  Apologies if already clarified, but what is the reason for the 'opening flap' at the front?

  8. I routinely display 'a few favourites' alongside where I sit in the living room, and with 6202 received, it's a bit of a Stanier moment.

    I've a renamed/renumbered blinkerless LMS Coronation to 6233 facing 6202, with a slightly older SD 6201 Lizzie.

The boiler on 6202 looks closer to 6233 in diameter, larger than 6201.

Getting the callipers on them, just in front of the handrails, smokebox door end, 6233 measured 24.8mm, 6202 24.7 and 6201 24.3mm - all trying to avoid the rivets.

One reference book I have states the Coronations over casing, smokebox door end were 6'2" which ties in perfectly to 6233, and 6202 as well, which I thought should be the same as Lizzie, which was a slightly smaller diameter.

    Thoughts?

Is the boiler on 6202 too large?

  9. I'm another who watches for curiosity, and convenience of probably seeing a model before potential purchase - in case there are any 'alarm bells' to consider.

I received mine, after several Royal Mail hiccups, in perfect condition and must admit, he must have 'received a duffer' - mine does seem to be very well put together.

I had fun fitting the front steps I must admit, but haven't removed any 'masking cloth' for now, so really not certain what the steps are bonded to, but they seem aligned and solid enough.

I fitted my 'usual' P&D Marsh PDZ19 loco crew, which I prefer to the supplied ones.

I got some weight into the tender, but cannot approach ~50% of the locomotive, which I would have preferred - just me I suppose.

So far it looks a lovely model and I'll be getting some miles under her belt over the weekend.

Were there ever any thoughts for Nameplates, and where would they have been positioned?
