  1. I have (at long last) finished my 12ft x 2ft 6in exhibition layout - Carlyon Dock.  This layout was largely built by the Bill Douglas (as Deviock Dock) and I have added a station and various details.  I plan to run this in various ‘modern’ eras from the early 1980s to the present day.

The layout is loosely based on the entrance to Par Docks in sunny Cornwall.  I live near to the location.  The docks still load clay into wagons every week and I have photographed the train movements on many occasions.

I am off to my first exhibition at Pool School ( between Redruth and Camborne) on 15/16 April.

I just have stock to weather and wiring to tidy in order to be ready.

  2. I am the lucky winner of a set of 6 KMS EWS limited editions. 3 x BBAs and 3 x BLAs.  I am chuffed to bits (excuse the pun).

I unpacked them this afternoon and realised (again) how exquisite these are.  They’ll go with my Bachmann BZAs and Accurascale JSAs.

Sorry if I’ve caused offence - I was genuinely trying to be helpful. But I can also see who has agreed with your post so I must have upset more than just you! I’ll delete my post in the morning as I genuinely thought producing a little table of liveries and models was helpful to the discussion.

If opinion on liveries is all that is wanted, can we please have a proper D400 in 1991 blue as sponsored by Rail Magazine.

I, for one, am extremely grateful for the table that you have produced.  I have saved this to use in the future.

In my opinion there is no need for you to delete posts.

    Thankyou for the information.

I badger Alex and Cav about this every time I see them (and Will even more frequently), though in reality I will be removing the logo from my first 6 (or 8) and then weathering.

Do you have any more close ups of the real thing like the photo you shared?  Ideal inspiration for weathering

I’ll take a look through my CDA photos and share any more that I have.

  5. Great to chat to both Alex and Cav over the Warley weekend.  As a Cornish modeller, I am excited to see the exquisite rendition of the tarpaulin covers on the CDAs.

This is another livery worth considering.  Note how the ECC logo on the side has been removed but you can still see the edge of the blue ‘box’ of colour.  We (Redruth MRC) have modelled this using Hornby wagons.4F830DB2-8278-4F2C-B395-B3786441A7FA.jpeg.35b0415f3ec7195c033a90ec69dd9479.jpeg

  6. I have purchased a secondhand Bachmann 20/3 and it is completely dead on DC with no lights working.

I am wondering if it has a decoder fitted instead of the blanking plug.  I am trying to find a photo of the PLUX22 blanking plug used on a Bachmann 20/3.

The Bachmann spares website doesn’t list these for the 20.  I can see them for the 121 and 158.

Are the blanking plugs the same for all Bachmann PLUX22 fitted locos?  What do these look like?

Advice and photos would be much appreciated.

This is a short overview of the Modulus layout I took to Taunton in April.

    Hi Stu

Many thanks for the demo at the Cornwall Model Railway Show yesterday.  We (Redruth MRC) are very excited at the opportunities that arise from using Modulus.  It will significantly reduce our wiring and will make route setting and occupation display so much easier.
