  1. My daughter's off into Norwich today and will be getting the 12 something from Sheringham which is on its way from Norwich as I type this. Things seem to have settled down Russ. I can handle the odd bit of late running, but the big fear is that to get back on time, the service from Norwich will terminate at Cromer. I don't use the train much tbh. If I lived in Cromer I would, but Sheringham can be hit and miss. I've been dumped at Cromer late at night once too often.
  2. So I'm assuming that once all units are in service and things have settled down somewhat that the 3 cars (less engines, presumably less diesel consumption) will be used on lines with zero or minimum overhead and the 4 cars will be used where they can at least spend some time running on AC?
  3. Service between Norwich and Sheringham was suspended for a few hours a few days ago due to flooding at Worstead, field runoff. Might have something to do with it.
  4. I've been told the replacement buses are booked until end of service Christmas Eve. As you say, probably a sensible overlap.
  5. A normal service has been resumed through to Sheringham, so I'm assuming the plan to install treadles at the weekend went ahead? Someone seems to have forgotten to cancel the replacement buses though, so folk at Sheringham this morning have more ways to get to Cromer than they could ever have hoped for...
  6. I'd be very happy with one of those shuttling between Sheringham and Cromer at the moment.
  7. Quick question if I may? I understand entirely the issues causing the revised service between Norwich - Sheringham. Due to the speed restrictions over the level crossings, the service is being cut back at Cromer and West Runton and Sheringham are not being served by trains. Historically, the Cromer - Sheringham section has often been sacrificed to get a late-running train back on time, as the round trip is a good 20 minutes minimum. However, as there is now a 2 hourly service in place off-peak, why is it not possible to run through to Sheringham? The last train of the day is the only one that comes through to Sheringham (so I'm told) and it's been that way for some time now. A replacement bus service is being provided but it's proving unreliable. Example - Train arrives at Cromer from Norwich. Bus at Cromer, but bus driver nowhere to be seen. Often, He's in Morrisons having a cuppa. The bus drivers are saying they don't have a timetable to work to? Out of frustration, people are getting taxis and trying to bill GA. Example 2 - People arrive at Sheringham to get the replacement bus to Cromer. Bus not at station, it's parked further away at the NNR station. In the absence of information, people miss the bus. The next day, bus is not at the NNR station, it's reversed onto the Network Rail forecourt. No pattern to it at all, and it all seems a little shambolic. I get the distinct impression that commuters are abandoning the Bittern line in favour of car-sharing and timetabled buses to and from Norwich. That is a great shame, considering the vast increase in passenger numbers over recent years.
  8. Sadly, probably not. Watch this space. I guess even trolls have to sleep and eat. I had no idea their diet consisted entirely of GA press releases though. Edited due to a spelling emergency.
  9. What a strange thing to say. You are aware of the title of this thread? If you'd like to start another where those so inclined can pay more...
  10. Link added. Is the RRP really £219.95? I remember picking a blue one up a couple of years ago for £60ish. Happy days. http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/51205/31-379-Bachmann-2EPB-2-Car-EMU-Set-number-5771-in-BR-Green
  11. Yeah, as I tried explaining but I gave up. To most people, if their train doesn't arrive, it's the train's fault - end of. Head ----->>> brick wall.
  12. We will have to agree to disagree. Sick and tired of being dazzled by them in the wet - they're way too bright. Back on topic - I know in my little neck of the woods (Bittern line), social media dissent is growing amidst all the late-running and cancellations. A particular bugbear is the termination of trains at Cromer to try and get them back on time. Not hugely helpful for those of us that live beyond Cromer. Those that were vocal against the old 153s and 156s are now moaning their loss, as they were at least generally reliable. It would seem that you can't please anyone any of the time...
  13. There's nothing wrong with halogens, assuming you're not exceeding the speed limit or your own driving ability. Hate LED headlights. Total overkill, but hey, they look cool, so that's ok then.
  14. Can anyone tell me the current allocation of non-Flirt units available for service? If the 153s have gone (or will have by tomorrow), how many 156s are available for service on rural routes? Am I right in thinking that only one 170 remains? That must be due for relocation soon, I would imagine?
  15. I might go in, ask for something really obscure and then moan when they don't have it. Actually, that's not in my nature. I shall pop in and wish them well at least. Knowing me, I'll come home with something I didn't know I needed...
  16. Just back from Screwfix and they were doing an in-store deal on PinkGrip. I'm not sure what the difference is but it's definitely solvent-free so should do the job just fine. For the styrene, that needs to follow a contour formed into the insulation, so I may bond some thin bendy MDF straight to the foam and then add the styrene to that. Thanks guys.
  17. Careful now, you'll get a visit from the Drift Police...
  18. Great, thanks John. I had an idea it was something similar that I'd used in the past, but I wasn't 100% sure. I need to pop into Cromer this morning, so Screwfix will get a visit.
  19. I need to bond some sections of foil-backed insulation board (as shown) to a ply baseboard surface, and then once the insulation has been shaped and sanded, bond some 1mm styrene sheet to the exposed top surface. Now, I know "solvent-free" is essential to avoid a melted gooey mess, but does anyone have any experience of doing this and what did you use? I'm thinking undiluted PVA would be sufficient to bond the insulation to the ply if I use weights while the glue dries. What I'm less sure about is what to use to bond the styrene to the foam? I remember doing it before years ago with no ill-effects, but I can't remember how! Any thoughts? Thanks, Pete. Edited because I forgot to add the image!
  20. That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. The cancellations were all early on Monday, so could have been a knock-on from Sunday.
  21. "The 6.02am Cambridge to Norwich, 6.14 Lowestoft to Ipswich, 6.45 Norwich to Lowestoft and 7.33 Lowestoft to Norwich, 7.43 Norwich to Great Yarmouth and 8.18 Great Yarmouth to Norwich have been cancelled due to train faults". That dropped into my inbox yesterday morning (Monday 7th). Were they the new 755s falling over?
  22. You're spot on, it IS progress. If it makes travelling easier for just a handful of visually impaired folk, it's a very good thing. The fact that it offends your aesthetic pleasure is of no consequence to anyone at all, sorry!
  23. Anything Anglia. One/National Express/Greater Anglia. Ta.
