  1. Manchester is a city (one that likes to take credit for other’s achievements, I have to say) and it has rather decent links to other places in the UK, please tell us all why anyone should want to relocate to a rather isolated town in Lancashire just because the there’s a very theoretical chance the the depot and its surrounding area theoretically in your opinion might be ‘redeveloped’? Getting back on topic I’m guessing there’s been no news on the operation of the second train?
  2. Your plans for 10A seem all fine and dandy, but can I pull you up on a major point? Are you the landlord of the site of 10A?
  3. I did mention that, I was trying to make the point it didn’t work anything with fare paying customers behind it.
  4. But 6023 never worked anything on the mainline after its restoration so how can you count that as being part of a your ‘slow retreat’ comment? We may as well start counting the absence of the likes of 4930, 5000, 6000 and 75069 as part of the ‘slow retreat’ from the mainline.
  5. There was an event going on in 2012 that made London ‘out of bounds’ to Charters in the run up to it and afterwards don’t forget.
  6. Absolutely, in the case of 6023 it’s only mainline trips were to be towed to the loading point to go on a low loader elsewhere and that one trip to Padd for the open day at Old Oak Common. 6201’s absence from the mainline is a little bit ‘self inflicted’ shall we say?
  7. Ever get the feeling that someone’s cutting off their nose to spite their face?
  8. 60007’s owners have said they’re happy to work with other operators though, just as long as it doesn’t clash with the commitments they have with LSL, I also believe they’re rather happy to have 60007 not overworked.
  9. I believe CDL tanks are mandatory on the big railway now, on a certain tour with a Thousand recently, participants were advised to make use of the facilities at its station stops as the stock hadn’t had chance to be emptied from its previous day’s duties.
  10. I must admit Narrow gauge isn’t my specialty, I’d completely forgotten about the renamings that occurred in that part of North Wales. More than happy to be corrected 😎
  11. Would C243 be in 1980? As I don’t think EoM was built until 78/9, (Fat fingers happen to us all 😀
  12. I’m sure I had some ex coast slam door stock on the rug ex’s up the Marches in 2002. I’m sure some of it continued possibly later than that.
  13. I read that sometime ago it was a possibility at some point in the 1980’s, and again just after his death by VTEC (just before we know what we know now) Someone at VTEC dodged a massive bullet there.
  14. I appreciate I’m throwing a massive hand grenade into the mix here and it’s nothing to with naming BR 7MTs but wasn’t there a plan to name something after a certain DJ from Leeds several times and that got vetoed?
  15. 75069 also carried green during its first spell in operation from 1984 to 1994 (not exactly ‘authentic’ as it was an ex Southern Region machine)
  16. Seriously? I know that there’s no love lost between 5A and 10A but if someone from LSL reads your post and takes it the wrong way, would you be able to back up those allegations?
  17. I think you’re being a bit melodramatic there, or are you just trying to be controversial on purpose? I think we know that Tanger’s has had it’s problems but not all of them can be placed at the fault of it’s design. I’d have to say Winchfield (not Woking, please if you’re going to single out incidents then please do some basic research before posting) and Wooton Bassett were down to the responsibility of those responsible of its operation and maintenance. If your really that concerned about the performance of an original condition ‘Spam Can’ on a pres line rather than wait until 34023’s back in action why not have a look or get in touch with SLL or the Mid Hants and see how they’ve got on with 34070 recently to see how that’s coped recently? It’s hardly straight and level between Alton and Alresford is it?
  18. If you’ve ever read ‘Railway Adventure’ you’ll find how Mr Rolt makes a comment on about how much a 2 or 3 minute delay in somewhere like Manchester or Birmingham could have a knock on delay at Twywn when trying to arrange a connection with the Talylln. More recently the same points been made regarding the NYMR with their services to Whitby, if something cocks up there apparently the ripples can be felt back as far as Leeds and Manchester.
  19. Someone’s copying the West Coast way then? 😜 Very much look forward to seeing this in BR civil engineers 😀👍🏼
  20. As someone who is a manager in a very erm interesting hospitality industry I’d very much like to challenge that statement. I’m very happy to lead from the front and roll my sleeves up and get on with the job. I’m very much of the Reggie Hanks style of management (you walk around and you talk to people and have a chat with them) A certain Mr Dunster has found this seems to work from his old boss (Chris Green) at a certain railway in the West Midlands who’s previous GM called her staff a bunch of ‘well meaning amateurs’
