  1. Forgive the specific nature, but I've been researching SWD sets in 1960-61 for a future model, and though I appreciate that the 8J sets were largely Waterloo-Salisbury, in this period they nonetheless have a series of interesting formations, perhaps none more so than Set 436 which was formed BSK-SK-SK-CK-CK-SK-SK-BSK, but with a bewildering variety of coaches (presumably a scratch lash up). BSK: 4062 Maunsell Dia 2101 (Low) (Hornby R4840/4842 or from the S&D Coaches Pack) SK: 2346 Urie Dia 24 (Ironclad) SK: 1884 Maunsell Dia 2008 CK: 5801 Bulleid Dia 2318 (10") (Bachmann 34-750 is the correct model, but not yet available in BR(S) Green) CK: 5806 Bulleid Dia 2318 (10") (Bachmann 34-750 is the correct model, but not yet available in BR(S) Green) SK: 1179 Maunsell Dia 2001 (High) (2 lav vents) (Hornby R4302C only) SK: 1148 Maunsell Dia 2001 (High) (2 lav vents) (Hornby R4302C only) BSK: 3776 Maunsell Dia 2110 (Hornby R4305A/B, R4836, R4838) Here, a strange everyday set with Urie, Maunsell Low Window, Maunsell High Window, Maunsell Flush Panel, and Bulleid stock all together! Does anyone recommend a kit to or replacement sides for the Hornby Maunsells to produce Urie Dia 24 or Maunsell Dia 2008, please? I'm a bit puzzled that Hornby haven't produced the later Maunsells given that at least some of the tooling was created for the Dia 2407 DBCKs in the Pull-Push packs; I would've thought this was a low(er) cost change that would sell a whole new set of Maunsells for those who wanted bang-on sets but lacked skills/time to convert the earlier ones (that's me, by the way). Very many thanks, Toby
  2. Very many thanks - 3679 is on the BR Database as allocated to 72F (Wadebridge) 26 Nov 59 and to 72A (Exmouth Junction) 31Dec 59 to withdrawal on 1 Mar 63, being scrapped at Cashmore's Newport Jun 64.
  3. Hi, SR modeller's ignorant question here, please bear with me. Exmouth Junction had a single 57xx on charge in 1960 - 3679. Beyond it being an 8750 with the later cab, where can I check livery and early/late BR logo, please? It got the late logo by the time it was condemned in Sept 1963 (https://www.thetransportlibrary.co.uk/media/5714bc68-66ae-4236-99ba-58f6cb9814df-3679-cond-exeter-sept-63?hit_num=11&hits=12&page=1&per_page=50&prev=2f8cc3e3-ffbe-4bd9-8853-560c52d7664d&search=3679) but I'd be hard pressed to make a call on the 1960 images. Very many thanks for your help. Toby
  4. Sorry to revive this thread, but is there a database of when the nameplates were painted blue or red from black please? I'm working on August 1960 which for Light Pacifics is a (fascinating) minefield of original/rebuilt; AWS or not; full rave tenders (with early or late emblem) or cut down, speedos or not - so a firm 'no red or blue until 1962' would be great... many thanks in advance. (The only variant I can't find evidence of is a rebuilt pacific with a high rave tender... other than that, virtually all combinations seem to have happened that summer!)
  5. Very many thanks John -- my mistake. Still very much feeling my way into the subject!
  6. Excellent, very many thanks. I'll go look at which Dia 2102s were the twin lavvy vents variants. The two Dia 2110s were 3780 and 3788 which according to Blood and Custard were in 2P sets 25 and 30 in 1960. I believe at a time when most of the other 2P sets were Dia 2113s, though set 27 also had a Dia 2110.
  7. Afternoon everyone, A quick question if I may - have Hornby produced a Dia 2110 BSK? If not, how would it differ in OO from a High Window Dia 2102 BSK? Looking at the plans in Hugh Longworth's 'BR Pre-Nationalisation Coaching Stock Vol 2', and the Diagrams in Gould, all I can see is that the door between the corridor and the brake compartment swings in Dia 2102 and is replaced by a sliding door in Dia 2110, but the the compartments and exterior appear identical. If that's the case, then I presume a Dia 2110 is simply a renumbering of a DIa 2102? Many thanks in helping with my confusion, Toby
  8. Many thanksPhil (@Mallard60022) - I was trying to work out what this train formation was (6.50am Exeter Central - Axminster; 8.00am Axminster - Exeter Central in the summer of 1960). Were they standard BR Suburbans?
  9. Yes please Phil - those WoE train formations for SO in the 1960 timetable are exactly what I'm looking for for an Axminster themed model. Very many thanks in advance Toby
  10. What a useful thread - much indebted to all. I'm doing some research on the branch in theory to support a layout at some point. With the withdrawal of the LSWR set in 1958, the answer (I think) is that Set 105 was used (that at least is the set in the 1960 cab picture.) SREMG's invaluable coach sets database (https://sremg.org.uk/coach/CoachSets.xls) provides the basis along with the Longworth book for Dia details. I've been working on this recently, so I *think* this is correct - doubtless the more knowledgable will correct me (I hope!) Set 105 was a Maunsell BCK-SO pair of BCK 6949 to Dia 2401 and SO 1327 to Dia 2005 which was withdrawn in 1962. In OO, the DIa 2401 BCK is available in BR(S) Green from Hornby as R4320, and the DIa 2005 SO in BR(S) Green from Hornby as R40101, though both would need renumbering and having the set number added. Hope this helps, Toby
